Lovely outdoor space goo was very good as were the custom cocktails. Lovely service as well
Food is subpar at best. Nothing arrives even lukewarm it appears kitchen is in another area code. Taste is borderline awful.
Great food and service. Really enjoyed our meal and would definitely eat there again
The restaurant was outside next to the pool area - a perfect spot for an evening summer bite. The burger was terrific. I inhaled it. My husband had an excellent Cobb salad. The wait staff was friendly and attentive.
Menu was very boring! The Bar Happy hour menu was way more creative but you have to be at the 5 seats at the Bar to use the menu. We ordered Shrimp Cocktail and the ice melted, lol. So it just sat in water....
Lovely setting by the pool. Very casual. Excellent lobster BLT. Limited and pricey wine list.
Our server wasn't very attentive. He did not check on our meal and needed to be flagged down to get the check.
Celebrating UCLA graduation!
Lunch by the pool is always nice. Good portion sizes for food. Drinks are tasty. The waitresses never check on table enough, which is why a star was docked.
I started with a shrimp cocktail The shrimp looked and smelled old; there was a slight tan color around the edges (freezer burn?) and a slight fishy smell. One of the four shrimp was not deviened.
Then I had the burger and fries. The burger was mediocre. The fries had a seasoning I'd never tasted before; not bad, not good, but different.
The wine was good.
Overall eveerything was overpriced.
First of all, this is just a sitting area by the pool of the W Hotel.
Service is just ok! And if you have physical issues, as in difficulty with stairs, the only way to access The Hideout is by stairs, or apparently there is a garden ramp way, but apparently it’s too long of a way. Anyway, not impressed at all, the salad that came with “The Chilaquiles” was wilted and it tasted awful! Overall a pretty dissatisfied experience! Except for John/ Valet, who was kind enough to ask me if he could help me, after standing by the front check in desk, for over 10 mins, he showed me the way to the Restaurant, and that was worth the otherwise disappointed experience, at least there is one kind person there!
This restaurant is currently closed for renovation (Jan 2019). Do not book.
Didn’t realize it was outdoors only and it was really cold. We didn’t like the menu choices either so we left and just had a snack prior to our Geffen Theater show.
We got together for a friend's birthday and had such a wonderful time! Service was great, food delish, drinks spectacular and ambience outdoors by the pool was simply the best!!!
Atmosphere and service was good. I am surprised you don’t honor happy hour sitting at tables close to bar area. We didn’t realize you had to physically sit at the bar.
It is outside near the pool with a wonderful ambiance. Great place for a quiet lunch for two or for several colleagues from UCLA to get together. Well landscaped. The staff was particularly friendly and helpful.
Had to chase down someone to take orders
Expected quality food. Very disappointed. Small portions of mediocre quality. High prices.
Very nice servers. Music on the deck was too loud and thumping. Didn't impair conversation,
we came here for Brunch before going to the Geffen Theater. We were seated promptly and our Service came over shortly after. The food was very good. She was very attentive and was available whenever we needed something. The pool "scene" was a bit much. But overall, a great place to go.
We enjoyed the lush outdoor ambience a lot. Would recommend especially if you want to impress out-of-town guests with a real, cool "LA" scene.
I love this place for happy hour especially..lunch and dinner is great too..The food delicious..all of it..
Fathers Day brunch for three. The bloody Mary’s were fabulous! Lump crab salad, eggs Benedict, berry pancakes with mascarpone were all wonderful - we shared a serving of truffle cheddar grits (jury out on that dish- 1 person liked them, the other two not so much) Unfortunately the service was lackadaisical- server was pleasant when we could flag him down, took 10 minutes to get spoons to stir our coffee (by which time it was cold - ate outdoors and it was a chilly day) never checked on us for water or drinks without being flagged down. It’s a nice place with good food, expect better service than what we received.
Fun restaurant right by UCLA and attached to the W hotel. Good service, yummy salad and relaxed vibe.
The kitchen was not working so all entrees were cold and served in a to go container....would have been nice when they called me to confirm to tell me about the lack of menu items....
They overcharged us. They bill on the credit card bill was different from the one we actually received at the restaurant. They had slow service. We saw customers come and order the same thing we ordered and they received their order no problem while we literally had to complain to the manager before we finally got some attention. I really wish the service wasn't so poor because the scenery and overall ambiance of the place was great.
They never received the open table assignment. Luckily I saved the confirmation. They were very accommodating in finding us a table even though they were quite full.
Brunch with the girls
We visited in January, so seating is inside a clear tent. Food was still outstanding.
We arrived and no host(ess) was available to seat us, I believe she was standing over at the bar conversing with other staff, we stood there for a few minutes waiting for someone to seat us. AND WORST OFF THEY SAID WE SKIPPED OUR RESERVATION THROUGH OPEN TABLE!!!
It seemed the majority of the staff was standing around the bar chatting and the majority of the tables were vacant when we arrived but was asked to wait further for the staff to finally clean a vacant table with dirty dishes/silverware.
The server was amazing, (I wish I would have gotten his name), but he was very friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and spirits, prompt, and always seemed available for questions or orders.
The menu available was not the one stated on their website, (which effected the choices my fiance could have and we did not want to be a bother because of the holiday.) Our orders were fairly simple. Myself - (medium-rare filet, mash, and broccolini) and my fiance - (salad and a side of french fries), with the restaurant being empty we couldn't believe our food took approximately 70 MINUTES from the time we ordered to arrive. The tables that were already seated who had ordered were also waiting for a long period of time prior to their food arriving also.
I can't say the food was worth the wait, but everything was delicious, steak was tender and cooked to perfection, mash was creamy but not too heavy, and the broccolini was very flavorful but not over-spiced. The salad was well... a salad, but the balsamic-vinaigrette was good.
I understand that the restaurant is located in a hotel and would believe the guests that order room service would be serviced first and created by the same kitchen but 70 minutes is quite a long time to wait for an order that simple.
Overall it was an "okay" experience, the server and the quality of the food saved it from being a disaster night. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
We were excited to try this place but when we arrived they were power-washing the area around the pool. The sound of the compressor made it impossible to hear anything but that noise. So this review isn't a fair one about the food or service, which is probably great. But we made reservations, drove all the way there, parked in valet and then walked to the cafe only to find out that it was impossible to stay there and have a conversation over dinner.
great atmosphere and food.
The weather was beautiful so it was great to be outdoors. The food was great too.
Good food and service in a friendly atmosphere. We’ll be back soon.
Gorgeous location for a drink. Mediocre food. Waiter didn't know the menu at all. Couldn't explain a dish when asked. Too expensive for what it is
Really beautiful outdoor patio. Beautiful in the daytime beautiful at night. It was perfect for a late lunch just a 10 minute walk from the UCLA campus. Star spotting here also.
Servers are friendly but slow.
The ratings above do not refer to The Hideout, but to STK, in the same hotel complex.
The Hideout took my reservation just a few days in advance, without comment. When I showed up for a simple summer evening dinner on the poolside patio, I was told that the restaurant was reserved for a private event that evening, and that my reservation had been switched to the hotel's other restaurant, the noisy, indoor STK steakhouse, which was considerably more expensive. Not wishing to relocate all my guests, I didn't go off in search of a different restaurant. But in the end, I wished I had.
Food and service were good. Be prepared for a completely new menu. Some of my favorites have been removed. A 4% surcharge is now posted on the bill for labor charges.
Got there punctually for dinner before a show at the Geffen and discovered the restaurant was closed for renovation. Hope to try it out another time but in the meantime, don't book on Opentable until you confirm they're open again.
Please ignore all ratings - I haven't been there yet but needed to list a rating to leave feedback.
Nice setting for average food at exorbitant prices. Slow service, though friendly. Will not return, do not recommend.
Another delicious meal on the W's relaxed, inviting patio -- I meet a good friend from abroad there annually, and we continue to be charmed by the service and setting. I was not as pleased, however, to watch two valets nearly wreck my car. The staff appear to need additional training as to how to handle the logistics of a crowded garage on a busy Saturday, given that I and other guests audibly gasped watching a valet-driven SUV come within a few inches of smashing my vehicle (and my radio was blasting upon entering the car -- not how I left it). Other than that, a great experience, and the hotel concierge and front-desk staff were incredibly helpful in answering my traveling guest's questions. Thank you.
