The Hideout Kitchen & Cafe - Lafayette
We have eaten here many times and the food and service are always exceptional. This time we ate in the "library", an additional dining space a few steps down a path from the main restaurant. We had eaten in the library before and, while a bit more of a walk for staff, tends to be a more quiet and cozy space, as it was this evening. My wife had one of her favorites -- the tomato soup (truly exceptional) and a 1/2 dinner salad. I had the fried chicken which is WONDERFUL. One other thing of note on their menu is their beer list (they have wines also). Virtually all of the several beers are local, small breweries, many around the Bay Area.
First time there. Staff was great. It is small and can get noisy fast.
Really enjoyed it.
Dining early and food was slow coming out of the kitchen. Shared plate arrived with ingredients not listed on the menu. Mistake made in food prep on all starter items, so we could not get the item we wanted. Server apologized for the inconvenience. Manager came to our table and never addressed the food issue at all. Very disappointed in how little the manager seemed to care about our dining experience.
Hideout, is a great find. Delicious food, great service and cozy. Perfect combination for a night out with friends!
LIKE THE PLACE BECAUSE OF THE FRIENDLY PEOPLE, GOOD FOOD AND AMBIANCE. I WILL BE RETURNING SOON.
Suggest they add some nicer wines to their list
Cozy and casual evironment and tasty food. We had to wait a little longer than expected for our orders to be taken but it was a busy weekend night. I would still recommend.
From the time we walked into the restaurant and when we left (at closing) the wait staff was outstanding. They were all friendly, chatty like you were old friends and knew the menu quite well. Made recommendations and encouraged a few of us to try new items.
The food was so delicious and the single portions could feed two or three people.
We enjoy the Hideout for dinner and it’s become our go to breakfast place on the weekends. Great local place.
The table & chairs were too uncomfortable. The chairs were not dining chairs but club chairs. They did finally change our table, but we then waited over an hour for our food. Some folks at a table near us had a problem and the manager come by and started yelling.
Unfortunately had to send salmon back twice to be cooked it was beyond rare....by the time it got cooked and returned to us my daughter was done eating...the best they did no bill was not charge for our lemonade and iced tea....was a little disappointed with that. Not great business
Great spot to enjoy some of the best comfort food around. We have tried lunch and dinner thus far and each time our experience was wonderful. The food is fresh and tasty, the service impeccable (thank you Lexi!), and the ambiance is quaint yet lively. Definitely recommended!
My favorite place for brunch and dinner. Everything is good for brunch, but I would recommend the salmon for dinner.
Perfect neighborhood restaurant!
Excellent comfort food and both the inside dining room and outside patio are very nice spaces to enjoy great food and conversation.
I had a lovely dinner for 10 of us for my birthday last weekend. The food, as always, was outstanding. I want to especially note the wonderful service - it can be a bit of a handful to have 10 people, but everyone from the hostess to the food runners to our server were cheerful, helpful, and friendly. The Hideout has become our go-to nice, but not fussy, dinner out. We were trying to recommend dishes to friends and realized we've never had a bad dish! I also enthusiastically recommend going for weekend brunch!
Great food and wonderful service!
Fabulous quiet and hidden place. Just love the food, awesome staff and time away. Yum!
This was the third time with disappointing meal. Food did not arrive until 45 minutes after we ordered. Lamb chops were black on one side and the pasta sauce was thrown together so fast garlic wasn't even cooked. Seriously! Waitress was nice, but she couldn't even drop the right check at the end of the meal and gave us someone else's that had cash inside. Ugh!
I have eaten here on two prior occasions and the food was good. But on Thursday night it was busy. The wait was very long to get food. When the food arrived the scalloped potatoes were raw. I had the clams and mussels. No one quality checked the mussel as they are so small they should not have been served. There was no broth. I don’t know that I will return
Best Fried Chicken in the area
Lovely ambience, consistent food. Elevated basics- love everything we’ve tried! Friendly, relaxed service
The food was delicious! The patio ambiance was soft and inviting. Our server was friendly and informative. We had a great time.
Comfort food menu in a comfortable setting. Nothing special except the very friendly server, who was lovely but a bit overworked. A nice neighborhood place for a casual dinner.
We brought our puppy with us so they put us at a table outside with heaters. Great service and super accommodating with the puppy. Terrific price point and nice secluded location.
Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. The food was delicious especially the Brussels sprouts we shared before our main course. The fried chicken was flavorful and moist. My pasta puttanesca was different than how I make it with tuna but was delicious and full of umami.
We had a birthday party for 10 guests. The food and selections were so good. Our service was outstanding. Our waiter could not have done more for us. I would most definitely book the Hideout again.
Decided to try the Hideout and was pleasantly surprised - tucked away in an unassuming strip mall in Lafayette/ it has a woodsy vibe. Inside the decor was fun and hip. We ordered the linguine with clams, and rib eye steak. Food was delicious - would recommend to anyone looking for solid American fare. We will be back!
Love the staff, ambiance, food
The food was good and the service was pretty good. Only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because I called and asked about bringing a cake and never heard back. I called twice and no one ever returned the call and then I had to remind the server that we had a cake in the back. Not the best customer service but overall a good restaurant
Went here on a special occasion with my wife. Service was excellent. We had a male waiter that was incredibly attentive and insightful. Biggest downside was the temperature. It was incredibly hot! They didn’t have any air-conditioning and only had two relatively small ceiling fans operating but no breeze. So it had to be over 80 degrees in there. Food was excellent but they’ve got to do something about the heat.
I went with my brother who lives nearby in Moraga. As usual the food was well prepared and delicious. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. I had the blackened salmon for 22 USD which was excellent. My brother had the shrimp and grits, which is his go to dish; so he loved it as usual. It gets a bit noisy as there is a lively crowd and a little bit of a bar scene. But they do have other rooms that are away from the bar and kitchen. So if you are looking for a quieter atmosphere, you can request to be seated in one room that looks a bit like a library. Or the other room to the right of the entrance where they tend to seat large parties. I don't know what it cost this time since my brother paid but it is usually very reasonable for what you get.
The Hideout is one of our local places we frequent often. Unfortunately, this past Sunday evening they were out of 4 items on the menu. Since their menu isn't super-extensive, this really did impact our choices. Along with that concern, there was no non-alcoholic beer offered, though my husband did like the seltzer-fruit combo he was suggested as an alternative.
We have eaten here several times and it is always wonderful. The food is incredibly good, whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This dining occasion was for dinner. The value is amazing. Portions are huge. Our dinner was also lunch at home the next day. I had the fried chicken which has a honey element to the breading that has you consuming every last crumb. The sides of smashed potatoes and kale are very nice. My wife had the mac and cheese with a meat adder and it was wonderful (we sampled each others) and, lots to take home. Staff is always gracious. We'll be back.
Great little hidden gem in Lafayette. The shrimp and grits were incredible along with the beer selection. There was mud communication regarding the salad I thought I ordered but it turned out they were just helping me watch my weight. Left very full and satisfied without the salad. I will return for sure next time I’m in the area.
This is a little gem tucked away in Lafayette. The service was wonderful. We both had the Sea Food Stew. Lots of fresh seafood. The Bedrock Zin was nice to see on the wine list and worked well with the entree. DC
My first time at the Hideout Kitchen. LOVED IT! Will be headed back there SOON. Friendly, efficient service. Everything we ordered was delicious. Huge portions. Very Nice outdoor courtyard. Cozy indoors. I am eating leftovers right this moment and they are still yummy!!! (two days later)
Great food! Great service! Our server was superb. It made the birthday celebration special! Thank you.
We haven't been to The Hideout in a while and we all loved it even more than in the past. Our waitress was wonderful and helped us choose the perfect wine with a few tastings. Her recommendation for the fried chicken was so appreciated and it was so delicious and a very generous portion. We be back soon!
Great service, food and ambiance! A neighborhood restaurant that has something for everyone. Glad for the expansion, too!
Been to this restaurant many times .. tonight all was good save the linquine and clams .. Honored reservations, waitstaff prompt with excellent service ..libations and salad served in a very pleasant and timely fashion. Main courses arrived on point and on time .. Single issue -- lack of calms and the five that were there were small and smaller ... just a small issue ... Still very good restaurant and fun to be there ..
