The Hero Ranch Kitchen
Restaurant was busy and staff was super nice. But the service was slow.
Birthday celebration. Great food!
Was very satisfied with the food, service and setup of the place. We had small plates primarily which allowed us to share and try many dishes. The place had a good number of outdoor gas heaters as it was a cooler than normal evening.
They have a good wine selection to pair with the food.
Excellent and diverse menu. We loved the decor and overall vibe here. Service was fabulous. Must try the jicama dumplings and the butter cake for dessert.
Creative and tasty hand-crafted cocktails. Entrees comprised of fresh and innovative blendings of flavors. Service was very good despite the restaurant being packed.
Made reservations for a group of 4 a month out for dinner because the place is that popular. I don't understand why after eating there though. The waitstaff was friendly, but the food was premium mediocre. We were seated in the wine bar area and it was noisy. As we were leaving a large group came in and asked to be tuned into some sporting event on the tv back there, which just would have ruined the ambiance had we stayed longer. We were also surprised at the tattered, sticky paper menus. Are we at an upscale restaurant or are we in for a casual dining experience? The menu items also seem to be confused by what the restaurant is trying to be.
For a restaurant that touts itself as farm to table, they didn't know where their fish of the day was sourced.
Started with some "sharing plates" but the portions were skimpy for a party of 4. The hamachi carpaccio was sliced so thinly that you could barely discern it from the oil on the plate; flavors were fine. Also ordered the lamb chops, of which they only brought two. The chops were the best thing I sampled from the menu.
The two men in the group ordered the NY strips, medium rare. One of the gents sent it back due to his being rare. The scalloped potatoes were gummy and very hard to cut, had to use the steak knife and would expect fork tender potatoes. The truffle butter overwhelmed everything on the plate.
I ordered the white asparagus and prosciutto salad. Definitely not entree size and only 4 pieces of asparagus and it needed salt, which was surprising since there was a fair amount of prosciutto on the plate.
My other friend ordered the fried chicken sliders, which she said were dry and flavorless.
We skipped dessert because the table next to us ordered something with caramel corn and I just wondered what kind of up-scale eatery serves popcorn for dessert.
Overall I'd say this place is par for the course for hyped up Bay Area eateries... which means you pay a premium price for mediocre food.
Lively restaurant where everyone is at in downtown Saratoga. Service was excellent. Loved the brussel sprout salad and homemade apple cake.
Such good food and service. Each time has been a fun, tasty experience.
The best in Saratoga
The food and service is awesome
Absolutely loved it! Would recommend a lowering of the music so you can enjoy your guests company better. But otherwise outstanding!
Very sweetly brought out a lovely birthday surprise for my elderly mother. We ate early to avoid their crush and were served with care and attentiveness!
Great service. Creative menu.
We had a wonderful experience, staff was super friendly and accommodating, gave us great recommendations, and the food was fantastic!
Hero ranch staff and owner have created a wonderful dining experience where the food is exceptional
and changes often on menu as well as the ability to bring your own wine or choose from their list
Thank you for your review! We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Unless it's warm out, the outdoor experience is awful. They don't utilize heat lamps and half the space is uncovered. Not sure why they torture their guests like that. I should have just left but they kept promising an indoor seat that never came. They didn't comp anything and we noted my wife's birthday on the reservation and no acknowledgement on their end. We ended with the sniffles and a hurried dinner. The management needs to remove half their out door seats until they can focus on creating a comfortable environment for their guests. Food and value was good but if your reservation is for outdoors on a chilly night, you're better off cancelling until they figure out the facilities.
The food was amazing, octopus appetizer and tempura green beans were the bomb! Wedge salad was truly elevated yumminess. Filet with truffle butter and scallops entrees were very tasty! Our server guided us through the menu with great suggestions. We sat outside and it was chilly, asked to move inside, but they couldn't do it. They brought us blankets though and comped our first round of drinks, which was not expected, but a very nice touch. Love this place and will definitely be back!
Hero Ranch does everything so well. From Ron's excellent management style to the servers and the kitchen staff. My only problem is that their reputation is so good, so now so many people know about it that it is getting difficult to get a reservation. I brought a friend from Carmel to dine here 2 months ago and now she drives from Carmel to dine here. Great job. The menu changes often enough and thankfully, they don't jack up the wine prices as other restaurants on the same side of their street do! Now their biggest job is to remain consistent!
We dined at Hero for a second time, unreal food and attentive service. We are making our way through their menu
It was our anniversary, the staff congratulated us and our server started us with 2 glasses of champagne. It was a very nice touch, and preferred to dessert after, since we were stuff after dinner.
We had excelled service and the food was exceptional. We loved the wine list and will definitely go back again.
Outdoor seating very pleasant.
The music was a little loud and the choice of songs could have been better.
Sarah was amazing. Took great care of us and made us want to come back even more than we already did
Thank you for dining with us! We hope to see you again soon!
Great Foods, great service. The foods came out fast. We like appetizers the most and love to be back to try some more. Wines were affordable. Great place for dinner before concert at Mountain Winery
Great place but the portions are shrinking!
Best meal in Saratoga! Attentive wait staff, delicious menu and great cocktails. Perfect before the concert dining... highly recommend.
Hero Ranch is my go to restaurant in Saratoga. Tonight was my second dinner there this month. Amazing food, great ambiance and excellent service. Tonight, the food was amazing and the outdoor ambiance was California at its best, HOWEVER our service was very mediocre. The young woman waitress spoke very softly and quickly and frankly I could barely understand her. Also she rushed us to order and seemed like she couldn’t wait to get away from the table. This is SO different from our other service experiences at Hero Ranch where the excellent service actually enhanced an overall amazing evening.
Excellent experience all around, food is amazing!!
Service was okay. We detected some attitude from our server and when I asked for sugar, she brought packets of white sugar so I asked for brown sugar, she said they did not have any. We knew they did so we asked someone else and she brought us packets of brown sugar. Our server came by st the same time and brought a small dish of loose brown sugar and it looked she smirked when she gave it to us. The food was good but not outstanding and I certainly do not think it’s worth leaving a credit card to secure reservations, especially since it is not a high end restaurant such as the Plumed Horse
Wonderful service with delicious food.
The dining experience at all levels exceeded my expectations. This was a celebration of my 83rd birthday and LIFE with two of my best friends. We met 60 years ago. Looking forward to our next visit...
This was the second time we ate at Hero Ranch. The first time was much better, so perhaps this was an off night. Everything about the experience this time was mixed. Some good things, some bad things. Environment, service, food, noise, etc.
This is a very popular and well-liked place, so I don't need to tell you about all the good things.
Some good things: The tuna & avocado roll is wonderful. The angus beef with truffles is really good.
A few things made us reluctant to go back:
- Some of our party got quite cold sitting outside (we asked for inside), and this significantly hurt out experience. 3 out of 4 outdoor heaters were out of gas. The management should monitor the gas level and make sure they always have spares.
- Apparently there were not enough wait staff. Our waitress was nice but spread way too thin, all over the restaurant, so it was hard to get her attention.
- The outside would have been quieter, but there was loud distorted music blaring out of a speaker outside.
- There are apparently no vegetables available, apart from potatoes, which are quite oily. The lack of vegetables is a real issue for us.
- Dishes come out at random times. One person might have finished a dish before another person gets theirs.
- The desserts are no up to the standards of the other courses. The bread pudding, for example, is really just a muffin with some whipped cream on top. On the other hand, the creme brulee is very good.
Nice experience. Gracious host and manager. Everyone went out of their way to make our dinner a good one.
The best in South Bay....Santa Clara County-Saratoga!!!
Dropped in before seeing Steely Dan at the Mountain Winery last week. We ended up being almost 30 mins late for our reservation and although I think the location of our table suffered (we were placed next to some stairs that service staff was coming up and down from), they were super gracious about it. I called ahead of time to give them a heads up and the host was hospitable and helpful.
We ordered the scallops and angus steak. Scallops were pretty good (though we asked for it without bacon and were served the dish with bacon, though I wouldn’t take stars off for that as the server was very apologetic and just human about the mistake. We didn’t allow him to take it back to the kitchen since we could just brush it off). Angus steak was underwhelming in taste and texture. Both dishes were low on the presentation scale. Still, an overall enjoyable meal. The mushrooms we started out with were delicious.
Angelo (I think?), potentially the owner or manager, knows his job and knows it well. He checked in on us multiple times throughout our meal. Never invasive, just attentive and friendly. He treated us to creme brûlée, which was delicious. People will say it’s the simplest to make, but that doesn’t mean everyone makes it well. They make a damn fine brûlée.
OVERALL: I’m not dying to go back but I’d give it another shot at some point.
Not to be missed!!!
Must have: HAMACHI CARPACCIO!!!
This was my second visit to Hero Ranch Kitchen....here's what comes to mind: Consistency, Excellent Service from the moment you arrive & Superb menu selections.
This time we ordered: Grilled Lambchops and Grilled Organic Salmon - all super delisshhhhh.
I promise this restaurant does not disappoint and I highly recommend it.
Our only problem was we had a reservation at 7:00 and had to wait 1/2 hour for a table. I think next time we will only do an early reservation! I think people need to be told that they only have the table for so long, or make sure they order in a timely manner.
The Hero Ranch was awesome but Open Table supposedly cancelled our table the day before but they were willing to accommodate us.
Service was spotty Half the table got drinks the other half served 10 min later Same for the shared plates Should be served together Hate eating in shifts Food quality was really good and portion size was great
Love the choice between a good selection of small plates (starters) and entrées.
