The Herkimer Pub and Brewery Ratings and Reviews
While on a recent trip to Minneapolis I came across The Herkimer Pub and Brewery. It seems to be in a pretty hip neighborhood. Plenty of great seating and a cool neighborhood vibe. The food and beers there were great. We were really happy we decided to go there.
Made my reservation via OpenTable and they didn't check me in/acknowledge. Food was average. Service was slow and when we we could flag him down, he was terse, rushed and unfriendly. He literally slapped our bill on the table as he raced by. No gluten-free add-ons like bread or buns to have a burger, etc. Overall, I wouldn't go back; there's better options in the area with pleasant service and broader menu choices.
Our waiter was friendly but not attentive at all.. It was way too dark to see the menu. Had to ask for multiple refills, sat at the table with empty beers for a long time. Was taking plates away before we were done. It was my birthday and never even said anything as there was presents on the table. Music was fun though.
Came for the Sunday brunch and was not disappointed. Food was great but the atmosphere was even better. Bar had multiple corn hole set and people were bring and play with their own bad just like dart board player. Was very interesting to watch. Relaxed had enjoyed their large selection of beers. Service was excellent.
Honestly, I went here because it was one of the only inexpensive places I could find that was open on Christmas day. I'm not a big beer drinker, but I do love burgers and theirs were great. So were the sweet potato fries. The biggest surprise was the the cranberry juice - best i ever had. no one goes to a restaurant for the cranberry juice, but I thought I'd mention it in case you go for other reasons. My drink of choice is cranberry and soda (1/2 cranberry, 1/2 soda water). Try one. You'll like it!
Service was great. Staff seemed happy to see us instead of bummed to be working on Christmas.
Our experience on our first visit was very enjoyable thanks to our waiter Keith so we look forward to returning when we visit this region 4-5 times each year. Since our friends were delayed, Keith intermittently checked with my husband and me to make sure we were comfortable while awaiting their arrival, just the right amount of attention. (you know how some waiters can become annoyed/annoying) Each of our food choices was attractively presented and tasty. I strongly recommend selecting the Newfangled (signature Old Fashioned) AND the Lone Star Stampede. Look forward to amazingly tender slices of beef that have been perfectly marinated!
Herkimer is a great place to meet for drinks. The food is ok, and the seating is geared toward drinks.
I would go back to watch a game, or have dinner with one person (not a date).
The menu is eclectic with beer and spirit inspired food as well as traditional pub foods.
Tried chicken and waffles here for the first time. I have to say it was lovely. Nice crisp on the chicken. I loved that they gave you a choice between syrup and gravy. My friend and I order two dishes and split both of them to try more and they were very accommodating. The burger was also good but nothing jaw dropping. We tried the grilled cheese bites as our app and the tomato sauce is to die for.
Enjoyed Herkimer, started with the sausage plate and then went to chicken and rice soup and tater tots. Pretty good all around (tots were unimaginative, though ... how about a little S&P seasoning or something) and the service was fine, but not remarkable. Beer mighty tasty, made onsite.
I went here with a group of five for drinks and dinner. It was the first time any of us had been to The Herkimer and we had a great time. I didn't try as many beers as I would have liked to but two out of the three were very good. I got the Herkiburger and it was one of the best burgers I've had. The fries were also fantastic. I would recommend The Herkimer Pub and Brewery to anyone!
Met here on a Friday night to catch up with old friends and family. Our server did an excellent job accommodating our large group, especially as we were coming and going at different times. The restaurant provides tasty, affordable bar food. Many of the menu items are familiar, but with a twist. This ensures that a diverse crowd, like ours, can find something to please. I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed the tomato soup with grilled cheese bites.
We went to the Herkimer on a Friday evening for a family dinner (2 teenagers and a 4 year old). Husband and 2 teenagers ordered the chicken and waffles and raved about how good it was. I ordered the nachos and they did not disappoint- they were huge and everyone was able to give them a try. The only disappointment was that there was really nothing for young kids to eat, but not that surprised given that it is more of a bar than family restaurant. We did bring in some food for the little one and the server was fine with it.
The Herkimer has been around Uptown/Lynlake a long time and needs to introduction: the beer is fantastic, the service friendly, and the food is solid pub fare (nothing mind-blowingly amazing, but it's perfect for the beer and the atmosphere). It's also a just far enough from central Uptown to skip both the parking hunt and long waits.
The last time we were there they were out of several entrees, but that can happen anywhere. More serious is the fact that you can't take the beer home in growlers: for a true microbrewery, this is an inexplicable shot in the foot. The explanation from the waiter: the owners have another place that sells take-home alcohol up the street, and that one cannot own two such places within a certain number of feet.
