I quite liked The Heights. Their A/C was broken, so we sat outside, but you couldn't really tell you were right off of 14th street. My food was decent, my friend loved hers. The only downside was when I asked for a to-go box, the one they gave me was dirty. Like, dirty water on the inside, dirt in the creases, etc. I have no clue why, and they gave me another one when I asked, but that was a little concerning.
Other than that it was pretty good all things considered.
We got seated and never heard from our server until we had to ask another server about where he was.
Entire time, we lacked service, utensils, and even had our orders mixed up. Somehow we ended up with an extra entree that we did not order at all.
Servers need to be trained better!
We had a party of 6 meeting for brunch. When we arrived there wasn't a table ready and we were told that unless we sat outside or at a hightop at the bar that we would have a 15-20 minute wait. We decided to sit outside, and waited a long time for someone to talk to us. We spoke to the host and then a manager, but it still took 30 minutes for anyone to greet us. Once greeted, it took another 10+ minutes to get water because all the water glasses were being washed. Then, when the server finally brought the water he spilled half of the glasses. At this point we had been waiting so long that we were ready to order food and drinks. However, our server forgot to bring a notepad to write down our food orders, so he only took our drink orders. The drinks showed up only a few minutes before our food. The food itself was fine.
Website was deceiving. Based on the picture and description I expected a more elegant venue. We made reservations and were placed in the back near the kitchen door next to a family with 3 small children. We were also not impressed with the menu and left after a drink. The hostess was gracious and wait staff warm and attentive.
Went here to celebrate my baby's graduation. 😍Everyone was GREAT. The restaurant exploded when he walked in. The servers made certain he and rest of the party (20 ppl) was cared for. The PLUS...🤔we didn't know it was happy hour. The crab cakes are to die for...we ordered a total of 5 or 6 after the initial order. The old bay wings!!!!!🤗 yes! The cheese dip...not so much.
We gave The Heights another shot after avoiding it for a few years, and the same problems with service and quality persist. Long wait before we were ever greeted by our frazzled server, even longer wait for drinks (one of which was forgotten by the bar and had to be reordered), mediocre bland food was brought out at staggered intervals by confused busboys who had no idea who ordered what. We came in as a party of four plus baby, with a reservation, and made it clear we were ready to order right away. The meal still took well more than an hour.
The owners have a much better track record at their other DC restaurants, so there's really no reason this beautiful space should continue to haphazardly offer suburban stripmall fare.
We have gone to The Heights several times, always hoping that the service improves. The food is quite good (as a matter of fact the menu had greatly improved from the last time we were there) but the service is horrible. We had like four different waiters, it was hard to find our who was our server. The restaurant did not have the first bottle of wine we ordered and then for our second choice they did not bring the wine we ordered and they didn't´t even tell us that they had brought another bottle because they did not have our second choice either. The restaurant has potential but they need to hire professional help.
My first time here was not great. The service was slow, and when the food finally came (we had witnessed it sitting on the counter for about 15 minutes prior), it was cold, and unappetizing, but the reviews were so good that I decided to give it another chance. Made reservations the night before Easter for a table of 4, and was promptly seated at least 20 minutes before the actual reservation. Outside was such a good idea since the day was beautiful. I highly recommend it if possible. Also, this time the service was great, and the food came out quickly and was delicious! My friends loved it!
I had dinner at The Heights a couple of years ago and it was great; thus I thought going to brunch for Easter would be a great idea. The meal started with us being given dirty plates and dirty glasses that had to be replaced. We ordered French Toast sticks which were great and the white Sangria was terrific. We ordered the Chesapeake Benedict and it was AWFUL! The crab cake seemed as thought it had been frozen as water oozed out of it and there was no flavor to the crab at all. The meal was basically flavorless!
Overall the dining was just ok. Couldn't decide on an appetizer so we asked staff about the mac and cheese. They said it was good but overpriced for $12. We gave it a go. It came out with a hint of cheese spread on top and that was not even melted. Compete fail. Frozen mac & cheese was better than that. Sent it back and had to ask twice for it to be removed from the bill. Only highlight of the meal was the paste penne. It was decent. I have had better. Won’t be returning. Many other places that have better reliable choices. Also the person cutting the bread, they really should use gloves.
This is the second time I've been to The Heights. The first time I was seated outside with 2 other people, in late October or early November (it was unseasonably warm). We waited about 15-20 minutes, and asked another server if they could find our waiter. We never saw our waiter, so we got up and left.
This time I made a reservation for Sunday brunch. I've worked in restaurants, one of them had a crazy busy brunch. I understand how it can be. However, this was a mess. There were 5 of us total. 3 of us hadn't seen the other 2 in years. So when the other two arrived first, they asked for our table using the name on our reservation. They were told there wasn't a reservation in that name, but they were sat. When the three of us arrived we were sat elsewhere (our reservation was found with no mention of the others). Eventually we found the others, and got seated at a booth. Then we started waiting. Eventually we got to order. We ordered everything at once. Then we waited and about 10 minutes later the 2 coffees came. We were promised creamer. We waited almost 20 minutes for the creamer (asking a manager, and reminding our waitress). Then our food came. The food came soon after the creamer, so it almost didn't feel like we had ordered 30 minutes before.
Not a lot of restaurants in the neighborhood seem to take brunch reservations, but I'd rather go to the Coupe and wait for a table and have great service and good food, then go to the Heights and be ignored by staff.
Staff is always polite when they are engaged with you. But the waiting is pretty unacceptable.
The server was very friendly but forgot my drink order, I watched my sandwich sit under the hot plate for at least 10 to 15 mins (it's not like it was that busy) and the food wasn't hot. The fried chicken sandwich was dry, fries were soft. And we never got bread when we sat down but the table next to us did. Not bad overall but not great.
A friend was in from out-of-town. She is finicky and told me there weren't good breakfast places near where she was staying in Columbia Heights. I found The Heights using Open Table and took a chance. We came for brunch and found ourselves a couple of blocks away from the Rock an Roll half-marathon. It turned out to be a good choice for us anyway. We got there a few minutes early for our 9 a.m. reservation but were welcomed in and seated rather than being left to wait in the cold. I had a salmon salad that tasted really healthy but not in a bad way. I loved it. My guest had eggs and waffles and a house salad. She was disappointed that the syrup was corn syrup-based and not real maple. To be fair, she did ask if it would be real maple and was told it was. She could tell the difference by dipping a pinkie in it. She walked up to the kitchen pass-through and came back with some homemade "fruit jelly" whipped up for her. She was happy! I was happy, too. We were not rushed and had a great chat. Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive. Some patrons ended up being folks from the marathon. There was a happy vibe in the restaurant even though it was not filled up at the hour. I would definitely come back.
