The Heidelberg is a restaurant located in Ann Arbor, Michigan that specializes in German cuisine. This establishment has been in operation since 1961 and includes three floors of dining, drinking, dancing and entertainment. The main floor at The Heidelberg is the Alpine dining room, while upstairs houses Club Above and downstairs is the Rathskeller, where you can enjoy a drink with friends.
The menu at The Heidelberg includes traditional German, new German and continental German options. The food is hearty and delicious with recipes used from years past. You can also find some other cuisines on the menu, but the bulk is and will continue to be German food that is sure to fill you up.
Wonderful, welcoming staff. Great beer selection. Terrific happy hour deals. The bartender is outstanding.
The attention was excellent. The food was well cooked, as in German cuisine.
I will recommend this place!
Tony behind the bar was great we stopped before the game and had great meal and even stopped back after for drinks
Delicious food. We ordered one of everything on the dinner menu, and it was delightful!
A bar with bar food. No kids menu and food was nothing to write home about. Pretty pricy for what you got.
extremely slow service. Almost left because I waited so long for food
Great service and food! Less expensive than I expected!
Fabulous waitress and good food.
food was cold took forever for a bad meal kitchen staff should be ashamed of there cooking skills
Have been going to Heidelberg for years, but the last time was for dinner. The Thunderbird sandwich was delicious and the pretzel bites were great.
We brought our Mom with a party of 11 for my Moms 90th Birthday. When we arrived, my Mom ordered a drink. The server replyed that they didn't have her drink. Later upon gazing at the drink menu, it was right there. Then they sat down a "game day" menu. I went up to the server and explained that this was a special 90th Birthday Celebration, and no one bothered to call me and tell me on her special day that there would be a limited, and by limited, I mean hardly anything. The manager came to our table and rudely explained that this was the only menu. He did say he would try to accommodate us. The meeting between us was extremely rude on his part. Thank goodness that we are a family that can laugh at life's foibles. The Heidelberg is now a sports bar. We will never return, and we will make sure to tell everyone not to patronize this establishment. It will be Metzgers German from now on. SO UPSET and HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED.
Great food, great atmosphere and the service was phenomenal
Took 90 minutes for food to be served after they used excuse that one of 6 orders was unavailable. They seemed overwhelmed
Restaurant completely unprepared for reservation. Staff were rude and never apologized. After more than 30 minutes past reservation gave up and left.
Did not honor the reservation. Was sent to a general seating area. Order was taken, but after 2 hours never arrived. Was told the original order was 'lost' (after 60 minutes). New order placed, but not given a priority. Rated food as fair, but honestly never had any.
Certainly the place was slammed after an event in town, but how do you not plan for that. It wasn't like the event was a secret.
This review could have been improved or avoided if the owner or a manager had taken the time to come talk to us about what happened. I understand mistakes.
Solid place and would definitely return next time in town. Really good beer list and ambience. Great, hard working service. Food was good. Not super authentic but most German places in the US aren’t.
Went for lunch before the Liverpool soccer game. Had made a reservation, but didn't need it because it was quite empty. However, servers were having a hard time keeping up. Ours took 10 minutes to get our drink orders. We ordered food as well. Drinks came back 12 minutes later. She had forgotten our food orders.
It was seriously awesome!!
Food very good once we got it: took about 40 minutes to get dinner though restaurant was empty.
The ambience was nice, except the music was not culturally enhancing. Pop rock does not fit the Germanic experience. Young families were present and untended. Our server was excellent and the Saurbraten and Red Cabbage were delicious. The potato pancakes were dry and over cooked.
Great German style food. Very authentic. Our waiter was funny yet efficient and guided us through the menu. We had a terrific meal!
Seating was uncomfortable, food took too long to arrive and when it was it was cold. Will not be returning.
Great ambience & beer. Staff was working hard but kitchen was?slow. Food was cold.
First visit after 25 years and it did not disappoint. The food and ambience are just as good as I remembered. Great German traditional food, beer and ambiance. Unfortunately, the restaurant has only a small kitchen so getting food can be slow.
