The Hamilton Inn Ratings and Reviews
I decided to eat at The Hamilton Inn on Saturday night because it was recommended to me and I was looking for a break from the typical Hoboken restaurants. I was not disappointed with the Hamilton Inn, as the food and service were both great. A little louder than expected, but not overwhelming at all.
Hamilton Inn is a cozy and vibrant restaurant. It's a perfect restaurant for large groups. Restaurant seated us on time according to our reservation time. We shared Breakfast burrito, French toast and huevos rancheros. Food was yummy! Our plates were swept clean.
We ordered the crab cakes, and French toast. The crab cakes were good enough that we ordered another plate. The French toast however was just alright ( I tend to prefer thicker bread slices for French toast so it doesn't soak up too much egg and I didn't get that here). Food took a little longer than expected, or maybe we were just so hungry that time seemed to be slow. The service was ok (not bad and not extraordinary).
This place seems to have gone downhill. The service on a saturday evening we had was good, our female server was friendly and attentive and our food came fast....but the food was much lower quality than all of our other past visits (we've done both lunch and dinner). We tried many of the same dishes we've had in the past but something different. Also there were plenty of open tables, yet we were sat right next to two other full tables making it hard to fit everyone. One table had some obnoxious (drunk) patrons (I realize their behavior was not the fault of the restaurant, but please keep other diners away from that kind of group when there are plenty of other tables available). I don't think we will be coming back any more after this last experience.
All around a nice dining experience...I will say though that I was a bit surprised to be charged $3.00 for a soda refill. It cost them one star overall...I have not seen soda refills billed anywhere in many, many years...this is a friendly, neighborhood restaurant so I dare say many parents will be surprised how quickly their bill adds-up at $3 per refill for their child/children in attendance....
We've gone a number of times and really want to like it here, but we've been disappointed each time. The food is alright, but the service was incredibly poor. Had to ask multiple times for part of our original order, no one ever came to see how we were doing, or to offer more water.
Was so excited to take my friends here for brunch. However, displeased with the level of customer service received when my friends arrived, before me. From what I heard, the front of house staff was a little hostile. I had put in my notes in the reservation on open table that we were hoping to sit outside (friends birthday) and never was contacted by the restaurant to become aware of the fact that outside is first come, first serve. The front staff informed my friends that we were going to have a 50 minute wait for outside (meanwhile, one of my friends is currently in a cast with crutches). Just not very friendly or accommodating. However- our server and the food was fantastic! Glad that turned around. Maybe someone was having a bad day...
The food and service were wonderful. However, when it came time for dessert, we requested spoons for our molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream, and were told there were none. It was 7:45pm on a Saturday night and it was hard to believe that they had no spoons. So, we enjoyed our dessert with forks.
We thought this place was just average. We went for brunch one drink was good and the other not so good, the staff was pleasant but not great. Some of the food was good and a couple of things were over done. The atmosphere is very nice but overall I just though it was ok
The food was good but very over priced. Food plates were Manhattan prices, if not even more. The restaurant is nice and the food is good but it is in Jersey City. It is not in Manhattan! The food was tasty but I wasn't overly impressed. The food was nothing to brag about. I have had better in other small and trendy restaurants in Jersey for bigger plate portions and reasonable prices. The restaurant is in a up and coming neighborhood. The restaurant is trendy and cozy. A fun place to hang out and chill with friends or just alone. The service is pretty good. The waiters are friendly and respectful. Yes, professionals and young families with children live in that neighborhood. However, there is no parking lot for this restaurant. One must find a parking spot in that neighborhood. It is not easy to find a parking spot in a very crowded neighborhood. There is also lots of traffic going on too. You need to come with plenty of time to find parking and then get to the restaurant on time. (if you have reservations or going on a date!)
