We tried the Hayward instead of our typical Christmas time dinner at North Fork Table and Inn. Outside of the oysters the rest of our meal was just fair for the cost of $400 for two couples

It was solid, but not blown away. Beautiful setting but we didn't experience it because it was a foggy night. The main room looks nicer than the room they brought us into which was dated and dark. Great salad, could have split it with my wife. Entree was disappointing. I ordered Halibut which is one of my two favorite fishes. It was panko coated which was the first time I ever had prepared that way, and it took away from the flavor. It was bland. I'm used to a thicker cut, either pan-sauteed or broiled, and better seasoned with a better sauce.. The carrot puree and the mushrooms with pearl onions were both cold on my plate and under-seasoned. Desserts were nothing to write home about. I did see the table next to me order burgers which looked amazing! I would give Halyard a second shot. It was good, not bad, but not great. No WOW factor! Solid......

Amazing dinner . We stayed at the soundview and naturally went to dinner at halyard. We ordered the octopus and short rib arancini to start. The short rib arancinin was amazing and a decent portion size. For dinner we ordered the strip steak and butternut squash agnolotti . We finished the night off with s’mores tart. Perfect dinner overall

We booked the Thanksgiving Buffet and drove 2.5 hours to get to check in at 4 with a reservation at 6 pm. My partner scoped out the restaurant once we'd settled in and came back with a very positive review—full tables of options, a fire crackling in the fireplace, good dessert table. However, by 6 pm, the buffet was literally picked over—for example, crackers for the cheese plate had dwindled to almost none, the spiral ham had winnowed down to almost the bone, the pie offerings were a sloppy mess and there were no plates. We had to wait for plates for both the buffet and the dessert tables throughout the meal. And we had to catch staff and ask that plates be taken away from our table when finished. No roaring fire—totally out and no one restoring it. Our main server said hello and then never returned to the table until they dropped the bill, saying there was a mandatory 20% tip that took our bill into an even more ridiculously high range. Long story short—we definitely 100% did NOT get what we paid for and we were very disappointed. We knew it would be a splurge, but we thought it would be worth it—and sadly, it was not.

Lovely spot, especially at sunset overlooking LI Sound. Fairly high end in view of a price of $98 per person before tip and tax. Had cheese and meats and seafood raw bar as apps. Excellent. A couple of tasty salads also. Sliced turkey, ham, stuffing and an assortment of side dishes as one would expect for Thanksgiving buffets. They were good, not great and a few oversights, eg. no mustard for the ham, very bitter cranberry sauce. Modest dessert choices. With one glass of wine each the bill for 2 including everything was $298.

Great place ! Food was spot on , service was perfect . Angel who assisted us with table service was a great help and has a great personality. The view of the Long Island sound set in the backdrop makes for a great dinner . Thanks again to all at the Haylard . We will be back .

My wife and I had Thanksgiving dinner here, just the two of us. We had a very nice table in the main dining room overlooking the water. The food was very good- excellent choices of cheeses, salami, pate, shrimp, local oysters 2 kinds of green salad for appetizers. Very nice selection. The dinner was a choice of salmon, turkey or ham. We chose the turkey and ham and both were excellent. The sides were mushroom stuffing, mashed potatoes, scalloped sweet potatoes, Brussel sprouts, gravy. All was very good, not over cooked, with a fresh turkey coming out often. The only thing missing were cranberries of some sort- either a relish or cooked. Dessert was pumpkin, apple cobbler and a smores pie. We chose the smores and apple. Both were good, but pecan was definitely missing from the lineup. The cocktails were excellent and the staff could not have been friendlier or more attentive. I have worked on the holidays, and it is a bummer, but it never showed on this staff. We will definitely be back for next year.

Pros: Phenomenal food, warm and welcoming service, both from the waitress and later at the beautiful piano bar. Entrees were simply outstanding. Cons: Our oysters were brought out together with our hot appetizer. Why? This shouldn't happen at a high end restaurant and it felt like we were being rushed along. We had to eat the hot appetizer first so it would not get cold. A seemingly basic no no for a restaurant of this caliber. More disappointing was the added on "credit card surcharge" which simply feels like a cheap and low class "gotcha" add on. There is a tiny little note at the bottom of the menu that nobody will ever see unless they are the sort of person who likes to read minuscule type buried at the bottom on menus. Why do this? More importantly, it is not in accordance with New York Law and the restaurant should now this. But you can just price your meals assuming credit card use (which was clearly assumed because the fee was added to the receipt before I ever tried to offer up a credit card). Anyway, I don't like it when I am paying a large sum for a meal and have to deal with sneaky add ons that are not being done in accordance with law. I would still recommend the restaurant but I hope they understand the criticisms offered up.

We used to be pretty impressed with food but this time it was different , i would think they changed a chef and the food was not good . Bread hard ,warmed up and impossible to eat , salat very average , fish over cooked , ice cream and sorbet tasted like gum and bunch of artificial flavors . Honestly from one of the favorite places it became a place where i would not come back for dinner .

As always, excellent experience at the Halyard. Very nice to visit off season. All the staff seem more relaxed. The main dining room is not open so food service seems more personal and intimate on the side porch-Bar Area. The waitstaff are amazing as well is the menu. A perfect night in a more quiet and “scaled-down” Halyard. We love this time of year to get the quality of the Halyard but miss the crowds of summer.

Dine elsewhere, $150.00 seafood tower was not only a waste of money, the clams tasted terrible $52.00 steaks were small and overcooked. $17.00 cocktails served in tiny glasses. Our table was in an older portion of the restaurant and the acoustics were horrible so deafening we moved to the bar area for dessert. Manager and server did nothing about the clams or overcooked steaks.

We had dinner on 10/15/23 for our 40th wedding anniversary. Our waitress brought us champagne and everyone in the restaurant was very accommodating. The panko encrusted halibut and vegetables, truffled brussell sprouts, grilled octopus, deep roots ratatouille, oysters and pumpkin creme brulee were all perfectly presented and delicious. We would definitely return.

Scallops were unbelievable Brussels sprouts are awesome Lobster Roll my husband thought it was bland Enjoyed the fires pickles with caviar The ambiance is great we thought it was very small portions for the price of the food. Error in the ordering of the Brussels sprouts we were finished with our dinner when it came.

The Oysters were amazing, the grilled octopus was also second to none, the best we have ever tasted. However, the NY Strip steak was way below par, very tough and hard to chew and tasted not bad but defitely not worth the money. This restaurant could be much better if it invested in better steaks. That being said, I would definitely try this place again next time we are in Greenport mainly due to the ambiance and great staff that work here. I really hope owners take this review as a way from taking the restaurant from a good restaurant to 5 star restaurant.

First time tihere, staff was very attentive, friendly and fast. Food was excellent. The tables were a bit close together, making it a bit loud, but there was a wedding in another part of the building, which could have been the reason. Definitely going back.

The place looks very nice, good view, nice atmosphere. Service is not bad but not perfect. Food however is subpar. While it looks good presentation wise, taste flavor wise it was very mediocre. All dishes we have ordered were far from tasty. Appetizers and main dishes were very bland, while the salad was impossible to eat due to the amount of salt in it. Do not recommend.

The restaurant was closed, only offering a limited bar menu. After I made my reservation I called to ask if I could request a table on the porch. First two calls went to voicemail with a recording that said they were closed Sunday through Wednesday, my reservation was for a Tuesday. I left a message each time, but never received a return call. Called again the week before and was told they were for sure open, only to get there and find the restaurant was closed and only the bar was open. Both OpenTable and the restaurant should do a better job taking reservations. The view was amazing, everything else not so good.

I went to the Halyard a few times now with my boyfriend, and it's one of my favorite restaurants. On this particular visit, I brought my mother and sister to check it out, and they were both so impressed by the ambience-- and then when the food came, they were thrilled with that, too. The Ratatouille side was incredible, and the burgers are one of the best on the island. I highly recommend the Halyard and can't wait for my next visit.

Our waiter was very pleasant and tried his best to be helpful and attentive. The food was delicious. The fluke and swordfish dishes were prepared well and we enjoyed them. Outside were spectacular sunset views. I gave it 4 stars overall because the “ clearer” was constantly hovering over us and taking away dishes as we took our last bite of any given dish. We literally didn’t put the fork down before she whisked away our dishes! This can be a turnoff and it was quite noticeable; making it a bit uncomfortable actually. Perhaps this is their policy but we were not happy and felt rushed, ( by the way the restaurant was 3/4 empty so there was nobody waiting)

Exquisite dining experience. The food was exceptional. We began with a Crabmeat Arancini and followed that with Montauk Swordfish and Fluke. All the dishes were out of this world. Service, wine list, ambiance, and views are superb. This is a must anytime you are out on the North Fork. We will return.

We booked our reservation for 3:00 when we arrived we were rushed to order because the kitchen closes at 3:00……. Why take reservations for 3:00 if your kitchen closes at that time? Ithe place has a breathtaking view so it was really a shame that we were rushed to put in our orders for appetizers and entrees as soon as we walked in which was a very poor first impression.
