Contemporary American
The Guild is a contemporary American restaurant, rustic wine bar with chef owner Diego Leporini at the helm. Housed inside Sunset Boulevard’s iconic former Screen Actors Guild headquarter, the design of the space pays homage to the building’s late 1930s’ history, including a statement wall featuring a quote from former Hollywood star Constance Bennett found on the building’s plaque. Diego has developed an ever-evolving, eclectic seasonal menu of contemporary American favorites, while not tied to a particular region or culinary influence. The tightly curated menu utilizes the highest quality and freshest ingredients from local farmers and butchers, presented in a modern and imaginative style. As the wine director, Leporini selects an extensive list of wines by the bottle and glass, including boutique producers globally and a robust collection from California.

I would love to leave a review about the fabulous meal my husband and I shared at The Guild, but I quite literally can't. We made a reservation for 5:00 p.m., and arrived slightly early (4:55). And we waited... until about 5:30. It never opened. We called the restaurant 3 times. No one picked up. We checked online to make sure we were at the right location. We went around back to see if we were at the wrong entrance. No one was there. So, as much as I wish I could give a glowing review, I have noting to base it off of, and think it is pretty bad business sense to let people book reservations when you don't plan to be open.

Really beautiful space right on Sunset. Staff was super-friendly and attentive. My girlfriend and I shared a few small plates. Everything was delicious, especially the cauliflower and the tuna tartare! Will definitely be going back soon.

Great cheese & charcuterie. We had a light dinner of charcuterie, cauliflower and dessert. Server let us try two wines before we decided. Rustic chic interior. We didn't order the rack of lamb but it looked fantastic on another diner's table. Have to go back to try it. Already told friends about the place and look forward to our next visit.

I would come for the corn bread. Prices are a bit out of alignment with the food items and the difference between a small plate and large is very confused. There was promise but I'm not delivering at this price point.

I found the Guild by googling restaurants in the area. I read the current reviews and it sounded like The Guild was going to be perfect for us. It exceeded our expectations. My husband couldn't believe that I found it. We were greeted immediately, offered two choices for a table and promptly served Mimosa's and excellent coffee. My husband enjoyed the Lamb Chop Benedict and I had the Green Eggs and Ham. The flavors were perfect. The decor was charming. It was a friendly atmosphere with families all around, but quiet enough that we were able to have our own conversation. We don't live nearby, but plan on returning the next time we are in the area to try some of the other food choices.

The food was excellent all around although the prices were a bit high for the size of the meal. The service was not so great. It took 20 minutes for the waitress to take our order and waters were not brought to the table for a good 40 minutes. The waitress served the wrong meals to people. They were different types of benedicts so they looked similar so everyone started digging in and two people got the wrongs meals. They didn't have the bleu cheese that we ordered for our charcuterie board and it took forever for them to replace it with something else. The food was very rich and heavy but yummy. Would go back even though the service was slow.

Our hike group stopped by after hiking Griffith Park on a Sunday. They were just opening at 11am. Seeing it was our first time here we didn't know what to expect. Needless to say the mimosas were amazing. When our food came out it was beyond our expectations! Everyone enjoyed their food and the service was amazing as well. You never know what to expect when dealing with new restaurants with a big group (different personalities) but it was worth it and everyone is looking forward to going back soon!

Service was pretty bad. Our food took forever to come out and some other table's food was delievered before being snapped back up a few minutes later. Same thing happened when we asked for the check and the server snarled at me when I complained that we'd been waiting a long time and our parking meters were running out.

On a fairly slow night our service was just... so casual as to be nonexistent. Everything was just slow. Not bad... but you did not feel like you were the important people (i.e. the customers). That being said the food was pretty good: mushroom toast & cornbread excellent. The curry cauliflower was okay (quite a lot for the serving -- too much for one person, the menu should probably note). Fried chicken was good as was the porkchop. The entrees tend to come with a full plate so it's easy to over-order here. Pare back on the starters or split an entree. The ambiance inside is okay -- it has a log-cabin type feel, which you wouldn't expect from the outside.

The Guild was something of a surprise as we expected more restaurant and it is really all bar. We were seated on stools at a high table. Still, the food was excellent - all four of us thought it deserved five stars. And the wait staff made the evening more pleasant.

We were really disappointed with The Guild, after reading great things. Firstly it was way overpriced. We ordered a mixed cheese and charcuterie board for $30 and also hummus with pitta to share. The board had 4 very small portions of cheese and a couple of slices of chorizo and prosciutto. (Only last week we had a cheeseboard in Milan with lots of selection and decent quantity of cheese for €14) We ordered two glasses of overpriced, mediocre, South African Pinotage and a dessert to share. The quality of the food was reasonable but not great - the portions were very mean. We wouldn't return.

Real cute atmosphere - this is a small/intimate space - excellent cheese boards. My friend had the steak, it looked really nice with beautiful sides and he enjoyed it. I had the branzino, which was fine, nothing special; the veggies that come with it were a little bland/boring. Nice wine list, some interesting / unusual choices. One complaint - I asked for espresso the machine was broken. So then I asked for black tea and he brought me...a cup of Lipton. The cheap lowbrow crappiest tea available in the yellow box at the supermarket. I was pretty surprised that a nice restaurant on Sunset, at that price point, is giving people garbage Lipton tea, and it tasted bland and completely mediocre, as is Lipton. I made a point of telling the waiter about the surprisingly bad tea on offer, and he was a bit dismissive, telling me he didn't choose it. Well I know that, of course. The probably answer is "I'll tell the manager." Manager - I hope you read this review and start serving some decent/high end brand of tea.

While the menu is a little limited, the quality of food was excellent. The meal was well prepared and portions were adequate in size for the price.

We stayed with the small plates, the cornbread was outstanding as was the lamb belly. Second round of small plates was less memorable. Fries were hard on edges. Wine fairly pricey for an OK Cabernet. Tables close together so expect to hear some of the neighbors conversation. Service very attentive. Would go back if ever in LA again.

My family and I brunches at the Guild on a rainy Sunday...despite the weather, the Guild was great. Greeted by friendly staff, drank bottomless mimosas, and had great food. We were a party of eight and shared the cast iron cornbread, and cheese board, before having the entrees. After the main, we shared flourless chocolate cake, sorbet trip and the milk and cookies- all fabulous.

Great ambience, lovely staff all around. Food was just ok. We had: gnocchi (incredibly dry), chèvre ravioli (also dry and swimming in an overly salted sauce), cornbread (INCREDIBLE), burrata and tomatoes (lacked salt), cauliflower (ok enough), mushroom bruschetta (very good). Everything kind of tasted the same and was just ok. I would definitely go back based on the vibe and lovely staff. Hopefully it was just an off night.

This was our second outing to The Guild -- and we are so glad we gave it another chance. Our first experience was during the week of their opening, and they hadn't yet found their footing. But last night was a world away from their start: the service was congenial, the food was fresh and beautifully prepared; the wine was excellent; and the ambience among our favorites -- slightly rustic, but elegant and simple. We're so thrilled to have this one in the neighborhood and we'll be back!
