The experience was just standard. Not as great as I was expecting. They brought the wrong drink and didn't offer to fix the situation...and made it out to be my fault somehow for mis-communicating. The salad was heavily peppered - to the point of peppercorns overwhelming the greens. The steak was good but overly salted. The calamari was too pub-like - overly battered but cooked well (tender not chewy). The service was just ok. I've been here before and really enjoyed it and brought my hubby hoping for a similar experience. It was just OK. Nothing special. I'm not usually a picky restaurant customer but found this to be less than it could be so thought it worth sharing my review.
Nice spot, good atmosphere. Ask for an upper window table when making reservation.
Nice draft selection.
My guest's dinner was so salty she couldn't finish... mine was pretty salty too... a bit disappointed in the mains... appies were better.
We celebrated a birthday Saturday night and it was fabulous. The atmosphere, service and ambience was modern yet cozy. It was a big family gathering with a lot of visiting to do, the music was perfect for privacy but not too loud we couldn’t hear each other. Now the food, omg yazzzzzzzz. Highly recommend the salmon and pork ribs with the Kimchi poutine! We will be back
Very classy and nice ambience
Excellent food and truly exceptional service. The floor manager was on top of everything, never letting his staff get swamped despite it being a busy Valentine’s Day evening.
Our visit to The Guild began on a low note. It took a long time to get an order taken for a before dinner drink, then when we got the drinks the glass my martini was in had lipstick impressions on it and was sent back. Then we could see the new drink sitting on the bar waiting to be delivered and my wife finally got up and retrieved it. From that point on things improved, our starters arrived and were very good. Then our mains, suitably later, came and were very good. All four of us enjoyed our meals. Service was much better than at the beginning. One negative, not limited to The Guild, is the noise that too many Calgary restaurants think passes for ambience.
Smelly of smoke. Not particular bad thing just overpowering.
The food was great, everyone in our party enjoyed their dish. The service was good. Two separate times we got a pretty thorough explanation of the philosophy behind the restaurant and how they age their meats. We were pleasantly surprised by The Guild & will be back to try a dry aged cut of meat.
Great Food, Great Ambiance. Will 100% be back. It is great for a business lunch.
A quick lunch with a friend. .We both had the chuck burger, which never disappoints! Best burger in town!
Front staff were welcoming and engaging. Wattress was gracious and very helpful. Food was very good. devil eggs were amazing!
Thanks for a great lunch!
You could feel tension amongst the staff almost like thy just got out of nasty staff meeting zero smiles. My guest asked if all was ok or just a tough day. Had steak salad meat was very stringy couldn’t finish it
Went to The Guild for my husband’s birthday. He really wanted to try the 32oz tomahawk steak but unfortunately they were out. Usually we just pick something else and the servers don’t think twice about it. However since they knew it was his birthday and that he was disappointed, they made up for it by giving us something special with our 28oz porterhouse. We ended up with the porter house, half a pig’s head, and added sides. The food was amazing and the service was just above what we had expected. The server was so knowledgeable about their food and made some great recommendations. Overall we loved this experience and will definitely be back.
Food was extremely salty. So salty it was hard to taste the food. Also the roast beef was very smoky, a little too smoky for my taste.
Great food, bartender but service was average at best.
Appy was amazing , I had the beet salad and my mouth was watering . It really set the bar high for the mains but what a disappointment. All four ppl in our party were disappointed by the main courses. It was bland, spaghetti was dry , pizza was sad. I feel like if we had got the ribs or a tomahawk steak we would of enjoyed it based on what other tables had . The service was great , ambience and decor were warm and comforting. Would consider going again for appy
The interior setting is interesting and the manager was welcoming. Appreciated the architecture and ambiance for sure. The food was cooked and prepared perfect. Unfortunately the good was overshadowed by our pretentious, condescending waiter. I won’t go back or subject my friends or family to that kind of treatment again.
I really enjoyed the space and atmosphere! we had a table with a beautiful view of Stephen Ave! My main frustration was the lack of gluten free options. I've been to many restaurants with even lower price points who have the ability to accommodate food concerns such as gluten. out of a list of maybe 15 appetizers I could have 2, to me this is just bad service especially when you could buy a few gluten free crustinis for the tartare or adjust the ingredients.
Check out the Happy Hour specials! Great service & fun atmosphere.
Great food. Great atmosphere. One of the best Happy Hours in town. Convenient free parking (after 3pm) at the Core next door. Amazing patio in the summer.
Great food an ambiance. Service was good but almost too fast. Would highly recommend.
Great service, amazing food. Also loved the drinks... really unique and delicious.
Meal was really good. Liked the ambiance and decor. Would recommend to anyone.
As always great food and awesome service, we had the escargot and the brisket that day 🥰
Treated like Royalty, no complaints whatsoever. Food and drinks were off the charts.
The food and overall experience was rewarding. We met the manager and he gave us the history of the restaurant. The prices for food were OK. The wine I found expensive; disappointing. I would dine there when happy hour is in effect. It was quite noisy but as the lunch-hour crowd thinned out the decibel level
dropped. The food was excellent.
Food was tasty but a salad with chicken at almost $25 was a bit expensive
Will definitely be returning!! Food was fantastic and atmosphere was very relaxing.
Hadn’t been the to Guild in a while, and the quality has gone downhill. The brisket and the short ribs were very dry for everyone in my party, and the sauce on the Korean ribs was not very memorable. Overall, the prices are high for very little in the way of sides, and the Center piece of these entrees did not measure up.
My party ordered the pigs head, it was tender and full of flavor! Only wish it came with a salad or some sort of side.
Had the chuck burger for lunch! Delicious!
Very nice and professional service, would recommend
Both of us had different meals and we were in the bathroom for the rest of the day. Also ..there was a mouse running over someone s feet a few tables away.
It started out great, our server was very polite and attentive. When my meal arrived (linguine carbonara) it was cold, there was so much pepper that was all I could taste and the past was so over done it just fell apart. When I mentioned it the person who came and asked how our meal was (not our server, this was a manager I believe) he told me that was how the dish was supposed to be, really?!?! I then mentioned to him about the mouse we saw running across the floor and the response I got was “this is an old building” again REALLY?!?! Needless to say, I will not be returning!!!
We dined at the Guild on New Year’s Eve with another couple. The restaurant decor was interesting and our table was well located by the window. It was a good size for 4 adults to eat comfortably.
We had heard great things about this restaurant when it first opened and we were eager to try it out. The service was okay. Our server could have been a bit more attentive. The mixed drinks and food were a major disappointment.
My husband ordered a vodka and soda which arrived flat. The manager apologized and replaced the drink however the replacement was flat as well. A third try ended with the same result. The other drinks, wine and beer, were fine.
The appys arrived and were tasty however one of the items, meatballs, only had 3 for a table of 4. It would have been nice to know that and given the option to order a fourth.
My husband and I ordered the pork ribs which were over cooked, dried out and much too salty for our taste. Neither of us could finish our meals. They were gracious to remove the cost from our bill. The other meals at the table were the bison rib which were declared too sweet and the beef rib which was voted eatable. Over all the food was a big disappointment.
This restaurant will not be in our return list.
We went to the Guild for NYE dinner to ring in 2019. We were a group of 5 and we did the set menu for $65. The meal choices were great and 4 of us did the surf n’ turf and one of us did the lamb shank. We all loved our meals. Steaks were cooked to perfection (medium rare) and presentation was on point. Drinks were great and 3 of us also participated in the wine pairing for an extra $40. Great value. We were all extremely happy with our meal. Portion size was also perfect. Service was excellent as well. I will certainly be back. Thank you!
Prix fixe menu for New Years was excellent. Start to finish great experience. Jose our server was terrific
Returned for the brisket & they nailed it .........again! Had a taste of my dining partner's prime rib....great! (wood fired shrimp was a fabulous way to start)
They were out of the white IPA, but it was a cool opportunity to try the Parallel 49 Trash Panda unfiltered IPA, which hit the mark!
The pumpkin pudding dessert was very tasty....definitely, large enough for 2 (or 3) people.
Our waiter, Thomas was polite, efficient & prompt.... we wish him the best in his upcoming move & pursuit off his career!
Went here for my birthday with a party of 12. Service was really great, however the food did not impress over half of my party. The biggest complaint was the pork ribs. 2 of my friends got the Kimchi pork ribs, and said it was extremely dry, hard to eat. Ribs are suppose to fall off the bone but they could not even bite the meat. Fries were drenched in the kimchi sauce and the overall dish was extremely salty. I had the beef rib, along with another friend-it was also very salty (but tender) and came as just a big plate of blackness. Didn’t look very appetizing. I probably ate 20% of it. I was told the pasta was ok by a couple of friends, nothing spectacular but was half off which is a good value. Couple of friends had the steak, said it was good but also too salty, and just mediocre. Overall, kind of disappointing. I think 3/12 people finished their meal. Service was outstanding though. We really didn’t want to give our server a hard time with the quality of food because she was great. Drinks were good. And beet salad was super yummy. I remember the guild being super delicious, but this time around it was a pretty big let down. :( super disappointing as we were all really looking forward to a delicious meal and celebrating my birthday/ the new year together.
