Landmark restaurant with some recent classy renovations. Food was excellent, ambiance and service outstanding!
Great view, great food, great staff that helped us meet our needs. We enjoyed ourselves immensely.
Disapppinted. We are long time customers of Grotto #9 and this is our first time since they renovated. The place looks great but the service was horrible. The hostess took 20 minutes to walk 1 couple to their table before coming back to get us. The waiter took our drink order right away but then disappeared for 25 minutes. Bring back the tuxedos guys. They were much better!!! Lastly, the clam chowder was like eating potato soup. Hard to find a clam in the soup. This used to be our favorite place but not anymore. Try somewhere else.
Everything was great
Beautiful setting, delicious clam chowder
3/16/2018. Staff very friendly and attentive. Everyone loved the food- all had seafood. Surprised us with a birthday dessert for my daughter. Highly recommend the restaurant.
We arrived to an almost empty restaurant for a 7:15pm booking. Food was excellent, service likewise, the first time in SF I could talk not yell to be heard not have to cup my hand by my ear to listen. Just reopened under new management and is a well kept secret so far.
Enjoyed our view of the sunset over the Golden Gate Bridge while eating local crab.
I was waiting for grottos to open again since they were closed for months the menue is way different than before but the food was great my boyfriend is really picky when it comes to food but he loved it. We’re definitely coming back. Keep it up! A big plus is the inside decoration.
My wife and I visited the Grotto recently for our anniversary. The hostess and waiter were very kind and prompt. The food was excellent! Our table was at a window, overlooking the marina at night. All made for a very memorable and romantic evening.
Awesome Place. Food was great, Service was amazing, and attentive. My Leadership team loved it!
Not only does this restaurant have beautiful views of San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, but the recent renovation has created a beautifully appointed, marine-themed interior that is very comfortable and conducive to quiet conversations. Both the artisan cocktails and fresh seafood dishes are absolutely delicious.
We were somewhat disappointed with our visit to The Grotto. We had early reservations (4:30pm) for 3, and decided to get there a little early and have a drink at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed our drinks. Then we were seated in a nearly empty restaurant and given bread immediately...so far, so good. Then a larger party (10) was seated nearby, along with a couple of other tables seated, and they all had drink orders taken, then food orders taken, then food brought to their tables, all the while we're waiting for someone to wait on us. Finally, we flagged down the hostess, and a waiter came to our table. The food was good, but one of the four items on my husband's dinner was missing, though they did bring it after we told them. We were surprised with the slow service, given that the restaurant was pretty empty, even when we left at 6:30pm. We walked by Bistro Boudin nearby and that place was packed. Hopefully The Grotto will get their act together, because it's a beautiful restaurant, with great views, in a perfect location.
My fiancee and I celebrated our engagement here. It was beautiful. The views are spectacular...the food delicious. We highly recommend the swordfish, scampi and bread. Delectable!
Always liked #9. The new décor refreshes the place.
It’s obvious that it is newly opened at the service was excruciatingly slow and not great. Menu online did not match was was actually available so I did not even get to order the meal I wanted. Huge restaurant with great ambiance and views. Not a very diverse menu with a big focus on crab. Crab cakes were dry and the salad lacked cheese or something to give flavor.
Wonderful upgrade to the restaurant & AWESOME FOOD
My family has been going to The Fisherman's Grotto for years.
It was cleaner, having been remodeled, but lacks the character it had. Nothing special about it that would make us return.
It was not busy and service was still slow.
The food was okay. I expected more for the price. The crab cakes were awful and likely something right out of the freezer. A large party nearby with kids who were out of control ruined the ambiance of the dinner and the wait staff and the host didn't seem to really care enough to even apologize for it.
We were a party of four. Some thought the food was great and others thought the food was just okay. The service was professional but, unfortunately it was extremely slow and our drink orders were forgotten and then messed up.
Great venue, excellent service, and delicious food.
Muy buen lugar. Nos atendieron super bien. La comida excelente.
This restaurant needs to get it going! They're in a Prime spot at Fishermans Wharf and my first impression was horrible. I booked this for New Year's eve dinner. It was the only place still accepting reservations and as I walked to the door, I could see why. The whole front downstairs is under construction and dusty. You walk up the stairs to main restaurant. It's just one big open room with tables scattered. I really wanted to take my mom somewhere special for NYE. This was a fail. The Franciscan was booked so I did this. There was nothing special and both our crab combo salad and my Caesar salad with crab were extremely overpriced for what we got. It could've been a Safeway salad for $26. I am used to the prices in this area, so that is not an issue but getting what you pay for along with the ambiance is what makes it worth it. This was not. Disappointed. You can't re-do New Year's eve.
Very disappointed, Service was very bad. Food average and below average for price.
1. Had reservations and they were taking walk ups before us
2. Waiter was very absent minded
a. We had no salt or pepper asked for more never got it
b. Asked for bread with our pasta never got it
c. Took 3 tries for him to bring us our bill. He brought us someone elses that was well over 100.00 more than ours and left before we could catch him about it. Then brought us another one that had items that we didn't order. Finally 3rd try brought us ours and took 20 min before he came and got it to run our card.
d. He was more interested in learning how to say princess and a few other words in japanese
e. More interested in talking with other staff (female) than to his patrons. Mind you it was not busy there while we were there.
f. We asked him what one of the words on the menu meant and he had no clue, the people sitting next to us told us. Waiter said i'm not sure, should have said let me go find out.
3. Told head manage and his reply well he has been going through some home issues, Not I'm sorry for your service etc. Really when someone comes there to spend almost 100.00 dollars the waiter should be there mentally. While he was talking to the other staff and laughing it didn't appear to be any home issues.
4. If your going for a quiet romantic dinner don't go, had kids all around us yelling and walking everywhere.
Don't go and if you do watch out for Raul
My husband and I had a great lunch New Years Eve at the Grotto. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding.
Made reservations for 6 , (My sisters Birthday)thought we would have a quiet dinner with an ocean view .Instead we were seated next to a table with a crying child. Ordered 2 glasses of wine and a sprite, They sat on the bar for over 30 min. Before they were brought over. The place wasn't even busy! Over heard a waiter say how bored he was! Asked a waiter for butter, whom was literally 5ft. From it and said , I'll get your waiter and walked away. Our waiter was clueless to the menu and wine list.Food was decent but Horrible service.Very disappointed Birthday girl and family...
The newly remodeled restaurant is amazing. With a great new chef in the wheelhouse the food is to die for. One for the bucket list if you’re in Fishermans Wharf! Highly recommend!
Service was outstanding and the food was, as always, excellent. This is a must try if you’re near San Francisco. Thanks for great meal.
Completely disappointed in this referral. Would not recommend.
Good food and service
Food was great but definitely pricey. Service was extremely slow and not very nice. Not the best experience. I hope it gets better as more people come!
Birthday of my wife
Excellent meal. Fish was fantastic and as fresh as would be expected. Service was exceptional, with multiple people working together seamlessly to serve, deliver, and replenish throughout our dinner. Decor of the restaurant was clean and understated, a classic feel where the food and service is more important than some contrived ambiance.
Food was not very good and quite overpriced so not a fan.
They were clearly not ready to open when they opened, and this was after it took them two years. It was a very unpleasant experience, having to remind my "server" that I had ordered drinks over and over again. She blamed it on the bartender, who wasn't busy. And the food is really not good. I really wanted to like this place. Doubtful I'll be back.
Started off with our appetizers. One of them came in an oversized plate and looked real piddly... After our table was cleared we then waited over 35 mins for our Entrees which circled around the restaurant before reaching our table... It was flavorless and bland... A total waste on money...
