The Grillroom Ratings and Reviews
We had eaten here on the 10th after flying in from Baltimore. We sat at a bar table. On the 11th, we decided to try again. We walked in and asked if they had a table and was told no. Nothing is available until at least 7:30. Not the friendliest encounter, but not terrible. We walked outside, went online and booked a table for 6:30 and turned around and walked back in and asked to check in. We were seated right away. Thought it kind of odd that we were told no, but reserved a table for the exact same time. Not very friendly when we went back in and asked to check in either, but we figured they were a little irked that we got a reservation after we were told there was no opening. Our experience the day before on the 10th was awesome. The food was fantastic both times a was our servers on both occasions.
Food was great. Server Brendan was terrific. We were seated right away and it was lovely. The only downside was my margarita on the rocks had a lot of rocks and was a bit watery tasting. But overall highly recommended and I will return the next time I am at the theatre!!
Great menu, good food with reasonable prices and the service was excellent. Perfect spot for a pre-theater dinner or a desert afterwards. Nice, quiet conversation friendly atmosphere. We were in a bit of a rush as we were going across the street to the CIBC, but the wait staff asked and paid attention to the fact we needed to get done on time. Will definitely recommend to friends.
We had dinner at this restaurant before seeing Hamilton. It is conveniently located across from the theater and the staff were sure to help us leave on time. The food was good and the server helped us select child-friendly food for our 8 year old. We would return.
Ambience was very nice and food was delicious. We were seated right away and our waiter was both knowledgeable and friendly. He explained the drink menu and answered all our questions about the food. We had made the reservation because we were going to a play and the theater was directly across the street. We would go there again even if we didn't have play tickets!
The hot rolls served right away were much appreciated after a long day of travel. The calamari was very well prepared, southwest salad satisfied my craving for something light, and my husband’s rare ribeye met his expectations. Hamilton-themed specialty drinks (hurricane and gentleman’s agreement) were strong and attractively presented. We shared the flourless chocolate cake and walked away feeling very happy with our dining experience.
The one thing that I did not love was the booth seat in the back next to the door leading to the restroom area. The trade off was we had ample room and were away from the time traffic of the front door.
We went to the Grillroom before going to Hamilton across the street...as did at least a hundred others that evening. The steaks we had were great. The service was excellent. We would go back - especially if we were going to the. CIBC Theater for another show. By the way Hamilton was outstanding.
The restaurant was freezing cold which made the food luke warm. Service was good and food was great, had it been warmer in the restaurant and the food hot i would have been inclined to give a higher rating because i likely would have had a better experience. Unfortunate but reality.
I have been to Hamilton 3 times, and all three times I went across the street and took my group here. It is not priced for the faint of heart (steaks around $50, surf and turn $60), but the service is impeccable and the food is delicious. Reservations required on busy nights for sure. Definitely for meat and seafood lovers. The salmon one in our party ordered was delicious.
Perfect location for a pre-Hamilton lunch on a frigid day, if you don’t mind the $40 parking in the basement. The theatre is right across the street. We arrived at opening time and it was freezing in the restaurant. Most guests ate while wearing their coats. The Mac & Cheese as an appetizer and 3 sandwiches we had (one vegetarian) were excellent. Watch the themed cocktails; server described one as a margarita but when it came out it was spicy and not drinkable. He then tried to charge us for it but did remove the $13 charge at my request. Overall, great food and location makes this a recommended restaurant.
We arrived early but were seated immediately. The wait staff was attentive and informative. Wine recommendations were spot on. Appetizers were delicious and unique. The daily special of halibut on lobster mashed potatoes was devoured by my guest. The beef salad featured a wonderful cut of beef cooked perfectly. We were never rushed, and enjoyed our meal before walking across the street to see Hamilton. Very satisfying!
This was the perfect pre-theatre restaurant for our family. So often, when you go to the theatre, you compromise on the food in order to be close to and on time for the performance. This was not the case with The Grillroom! We would choose it for a great meal in a delightful setting anytime!
We ate here before our showing of Hamilton and had a fantastic time. The staff was friendly and attentive and the food and drinks were delicious. The trip into the city was worth it for the restaurant alone but I would highly recommend it especially if you are seeing Hamilton (or whatever is playing in the future) at the theater just across the street.
Our reservation was at 7 and they placed us at the booth right outside the door to the restroom. No less than 75 people passed our table to use the restroom before leaving for the 7:30 Hamilton performance. Every time the door closed I jolted the back of my seat. We asked to move to an open table and it took 10 minutes to make that happen. Then my steak was tough and grisly. Huge disappointment. Would not recommend.
We selected the Grillroom based on its proximity to Oriental Theater and quality of menu offerings. We were seated immediately upon arrival, but unfortunately at a table next to the restroom door. Traffic to the restrooms was very high. Table service was good, despite the crowd level. Our food was delivered on a timely basis, enabling us to enjoy the meal without worrying about making the upcoming play. We enjoyed the evening and will consider this restaurant the next time we are downtown for the theater.
We choose the Grill room for its proximity to the CIBC theatre and were very happy with our choice. My two teenage children and I had an amazing dinner. We had tickets to Hamilton and liked that the restaurant had Hamilton themed drink items. We were 15 minutes late to our reservation and the restaurant was very busy. I was nervous about timing but we were seated right away. Service was prompt and friendly. The food was very good and we walked in the theatre with plenty of time. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and would come back again!
Great service, delicious fare...they are very accommodating. They can customize a meal deviating from the menu to create custom combinations...Liz took great care of us.
The restaurant is right across from the CIBC theater with $17 evening parking right in the building
Excellent service, great cocktails. I ordered a very expensive steak and as usual, I ordered it a step more done than I actually like (Med instead of Medium Rare) because in my experience, steakhouses grill to the rare side. This turned out to be a mistake. Though it was a great steak, it was slightly overcoked for me. Lesson learned, my fault not theirs. The joint was jumping on Sat night at 6:45 with our reservation, but by 7:45, the place completely cleared out. A tip: make your reservation around curtain time for HAMILTON (right across the street) if you are looking for a more quiet dinner, and you will literally have your waiter all to yourself.
We chose this restaurant because of its proximity to the CIBC theatre. We reserved a table at 5:45 on a Saturday evening and were seated immediately upon arrival. We shared an appetizer and then I had a salad and my husband had soup. The food was well prepared and presented. There was a lag while we waited for dessert and then to get our check. It was quiet enough for easy conversation although we were seated near the restroom door and there were a lot of people coming and going through a heavy door. We finished just in time for our 8:00 theatre performance.
