Very convenient for pre-theater lunch. Great food and service. Friendly and attentive staff.
Good place with good food!!
Great food. Attentive service. Nice ambience. Was quiet due to the timing of our reservations -- right before the Hamilton show started.
We stopped in for appetizers and a Hamilton themed cocktail. The shrimp cocktail was fabulous- tangy sauce. We also shared the cheese/meat board. It was delicious and really too much for just the two of us. (Not a complaint- just noting it’s a large platter).
We went for dinner after the theater. The service and the food were excellent.
Super convenient if you have Hamilton tickets - it’s right across the street. Food and service were good -
Had a lovely early meal before the theatre. The food was outstanding! From the skewers as an appetizer to rare tuna, surf and turf and creme brulee, everything done to perfection.
Excellent food made better by server who was so friendly and attentive. Wonderful cocktails as well. Loved it!
The Grillroom is always reliable for lunches. It's pricey for everyday use, but fairly standard for a decent table-service place in the Loop for a business lunch. It can be loud but wasn't on the day we went recently, probably because it wasn't terribly full. The food is decent, although you have to get creative to have a healthy option. They were pushing their iced tea but it wasn't made in-house; it was bottled.
We had a 6:00 reservation for dinner so we could attend a 7.30 performance of Hamilton which is across the street. We arrived at the restaurant at least 20 minutes late due to blocked off streets. The restaurant held our reservation, gave us wonderful service and delicious food and we made to the show with time to spare. I will eat there anytime we are attending a play in that area and in our next visit to Chicago.
Great food , across the street from "Hamilton" . Easy parking.
I was very impress with the service. The drinks were fantastic. The food was even better. The portions of food for the sides were plentiful. The place just made us feel welcome and appreciated.
We were greeted with a friendly smile and sat at a very nice table. For anyone going to see Hamilton, I highly recommend The Grillroom as it is directly across the street from the CIBC Theater. All dishes were amazing and the service was excellent. You will not be disappointed.
Loved our server, Timothy “Tim”. He went out of his way to ask the chef if he could prepare the corn & bean salsa without onions. It comes premade, so Tim said it would take a little longer to prepare without onions. But our meal was served quickly, in spite of the extra prep. My husbands steak was prepared perfectly and it looked so good...I wanted it. The Yukon Gold mashed potatoes were incredible. Tim was always nearby to assist with any questions or special needs. We had a very comfy booth. They hang your coats, right at the door. I gave one less star for food, because I found some brown lettuce in my salad., but aside from that, the Southwest Salad was full of grilled chicken and delicious. There was an anniversary card at the table when we arrived and we were presented with a special desert, on the house, afterwards. It was a special night, made more special by the excellent service. The hostess stopped by and greeted us, which made us feel like VIP’s. We were here 4 years ago and I reviewed it then with 5 stars. They are across the street from CIBC theater playing Hamilton, so the place was packed when we went there, but the service remained excellent.
I ate at the Grillroom twice during my trip to Chicago and both times the food and service were excellent! I had steak the first night which was one of the best Filet's I have ever had. The second time I had the salmon which was outstanding. Definitely recommend this restaurant!
After reading other reviews I wanted to be sure to have enough time for dinner before going across the street to see Hamilton. I made a 5:30 pm reservation and our service was fast & food was delicious!
Generally good. But expensive for what it was
Food was average. Hot tea & Caesar salad were bland, steak was chewy,, broccoli was limp and lacked char grill taste, baked potato was dry & overbaked, but huge in size and chocolate cake dessert was chalky. It was conveniently located right across the street from CBIC Theater which was convenient since we were heading there after dinner to see “Hamilton”. Probably wouldn’t revisit. Too many better chophouse choices to choose from in the city.
Perfect for PRE-theatre!
Ate dinner here before seeing Hamilton across the street. Both of us had Surf and Turf. Lobster was generous and fantastic. Filet Mignons were very good although cooked slightly longer than we would have preferred. We ordered Medium Rare. Next time I would order Rare. Service is very, very good. Tony took very good care of us!
We had a delicious meal at the Grillroom. My husband said his prime rib had to be "the best he has ever eaten"! It had a slight peppery crust that was delicious. I had the tuna with asparagus over rice which was a nice portion and very flavorful. The ambiance is really nice - warm, cozy but the right amount of noise. Our waitress was busy so it took a little time to get a new salad that wasn't dripping with dressing (get your dressing on the side). We were going to the theater and the restaurant was very accommodating to our schedule. There is no valet parking but there is a parking lot in the same building so you don't even have to go outside. I definitely would go again!
We ate here after seeing Hamilton. Arrived a few minutes early and were seated right away. Hamilton tickets and a steak dinner were birthday treats for my grandson. All four of us had steaks and shared some sides. My grandson enjoyed the onion soup. It got very busy by the time we were ready to leave, so we had to find the server to get our check. That was a little bothersome. Other than that, we enjoyed the meal and I would definitely return again.
We had a great dinner, apps and drinks well-timed with our entrees, and right across the street from our theater.
Had dinner before seeing Hamilton with hubby, so convenient as it is right across the street from the theater. We both ordered the halibut, a special that evening, is was outstanding with a celery root puree and green beans. Our server was very attentive and efficient- great start to a wonderful evening!
Convenient to the Hamilton theater but expensive unless it is a corporate dinner or a splurge
We were seated in a smaller room off the main dining area . It was quieter and great for conversation after enjoying Hamilton!
We chose this restaurant based on reviews and the fact that it was near the theater. This was an after matinee performance meal that we reserved for 4:45 pm. We were a little early, but were seated right away at a nice table for two. Our waitress was attentive and brought us our requested drinks . The cocktails were nice, but not cold....don't really care for a lukewarm martini up. Water and bread with butter came quickly and we tried to enjoy our drink. We ordered a strip steak to share along with potato sides and wedge salad to share and it was just the right amount for us. The salad was OK, but no offer was made to plate it separately before bringing it to the table...so we had to do that ourselves. Not a big issue, but it's awkward and most places we've gone to plate it for us ahead of time. The marble potatoes were unmemorable. The steak was cooked properly and tasty, but it was also just warm. How can a steak be grilled at high temp and come to the table barely warm enough....it should sizzle and the plate should be hot. The menu prices were competitive with other steak and chophouses in the city. At the time we ordered and received our food the restaurant was not at all busy. The before theater crowd had not yet come in full force and there were plenty of empty tables, so we assume the kitchen was not overwhelmed. Our server was pleasant, but we cannot recommend this place as there are far too many wonderful restaurants near the theater to choose from that are better, although we wanted to give a new place a try.
The food was delicious. The service was efficient. I have been there twice for pre-show dining. It is very convenient. The parking is indoors. You can eat a great dinner with wine and then cross the street for the show. Loved it! Would definitely recommend to others.
We had tickets to Hamilton, and the Grillroom is literally across the street from the theater, with parking that is attached to their building (at $19...not too bad for the area!). So while it had all of that going for it, the dining experience was just OK.
Ambiance/Decor: Overall the restaurant was kind of cookie cutter, hard surfaces that made it loud, uninspiring colors and signage. Definitely a B-
Coziness: Because it was loud and VERY drafty (and it was a nice night...in the 30's), they need to look into ways to keep it warmer.
Drinks/Wine List: Seemed like a decent assortment of wine by the glass, certainly not overwhelming, but consistent with what one would expect from a quality steak house
Menu: A bit disappointing. Most steakhouses understand they still need quality fish options, and they just did not have many. They focus on beef, and my wife had a flat iron steak, while I had the Rib Eye.
Steaks: Flat iron was a good choice, as it was a good size, flavorful, and I would classify it as a good value. The Rib Eye however was not. For $48 I expect a really good quality piece of beef, however it lacked proper marbling, flavor and tenderness. It reminded more of a $9.99/pound ribeye you might find at your local Jewel, rather than a fine piece of meat at a high quality steak house. To top it off, it was overcooked, all the way to medium when I asked for rare/medium rare.
Wait Staff: Our server tried very hard, however he was very stressed out as the restaurant lost its automated point of sale system, so he had to hand write out every item on a bill, then total it, and manually collect the credit card info...took over 10 minutes just to get the bill, but luckily we had a very short walk to the theater!
Overall: I wanted to like it, and there were bits and pieces where it worked...but overall it failed to live up to expectations...however if I was going back to see Hamilton again, I would definitely go there!
We made a reservation for 6:00 p.m. prior to seeing Hamilton. The play began at 8:00 and we had no problem making the 8:00 play across the street at the CIBC theater. The service was excellent with helpful suggestions and answers to questions about the meals. The "Hamil-tini" was so good, the best crab cake appetizer I've ever had and the surf & turf was amazing. Too stuffed for dessert but the table next to us had ordered dessert that looked fantastic. I can't wait to go again soon. Thank you to the Grillroom for a lovely meal!
