The Grillroom Ratings and Reviews
We selected the Grillroom based on its proximity to Oriental Theater and quality of menu offerings. We were seated immediately upon arrival, but unfortunately at a table next to the restroom door. Traffic to the restrooms was very high. Table service was good, despite the crowd level. Our food was delivered on a timely basis, enabling us to enjoy the meal without worrying about making the upcoming play. We enjoyed the evening and will consider this restaurant the next time we are downtown for the theater.
Great service, delicious fare...they are very accommodating. They can customize a meal deviating from the menu to create custom combinations...Liz took great care of us.
The restaurant is right across from the CIBC theater with $17 evening parking right in the building
Excellent service, great cocktails. I ordered a very expensive steak and as usual, I ordered it a step more done than I actually like (Med instead of Medium Rare) because in my experience, steakhouses grill to the rare side. This turned out to be a mistake. Though it was a great steak, it was slightly overcoked for me. Lesson learned, my fault not theirs. The joint was jumping on Sat night at 6:45 with our reservation, but by 7:45, the place completely cleared out. A tip: make your reservation around curtain time for HAMILTON (right across the street) if you are looking for a more quiet dinner, and you will literally have your waiter all to yourself.
We chose this restaurant because of its proximity to the CIBC theatre. We reserved a table at 5:45 on a Saturday evening and were seated immediately upon arrival. We shared an appetizer and then I had a salad and my husband had soup. The food was well prepared and presented. There was a lag while we waited for dessert and then to get our check. It was quiet enough for easy conversation although we were seated near the restroom door and there were a lot of people coming and going through a heavy door. We finished just in time for our 8:00 theatre performance.
Visited the Grillroom prior to attending Hamilton. Location is perfect as the theatre is across the street! The service was impeccable. Food was delicious. Had the wedge salad with steak and it was the perfect sized portion. Looking forward to going back to try the Mac and Cheese!
Just by chance we made a reservation at The Grillroom. Wonderful food and atmosphere. Very reasonable pricing for the location and quality of the meal. We would like to come again and try more things on the menu. We had pork chop & steak - both were perfectly cooked and tasted wonderful. The restaurant was full the night we attended and our waiter always found time to see how we were doing, or did we need something else, or did we need more water or coffee. How he managed to do all that and wait on all of his tables is beyond me. He was very friendly and saw that we had everything we needed.
Overall a very nice meal and experience. A few minor nit picks. We were sat at a very tiny table jammed up against a corner when there was plenty of space. I could have asked to be re-sat but I did not. It was a bit tight, and did slightly hamper the meal experience. I only mention it because the dining room was not near capacity, even by the time we departed some 90 minutes or so later. There was 1 minor miscommunication between our server & the kitchen. It was swiftly rectified, and later at the end of the meal, our server did 'comp' us a desert even though we didn't explicitly order one. Merely inquired or remarked over the Creme Brulee, which was greatly appreciated, a nice touch, and not expected or requested, and delicious.
Food wise, very good, she ordered a Fillet & I the NY Strip both cooked excellently and great flavor. I did order the mushrooms as an addition and I did not care for them. They were entirely too 'earthy' which mushroom eaters will understand. Now, clearly you eat a mushroom, you want it to taste like something, but...these were a bit too pungent for my personal palette preference, so I'd pass on ordering them next time. Super convenient for CIBC Theater shows, as the door is quite literally across the street. Would dine here again.
My wife and I ate here before we went to see Escape to Margaritaville at the Oriental Theater. The food is excellent. We started with soup, I had the gumbo and my wife had lobster bisque (a special that was not on the menu). The gumbo was very hearty and flavorful, with just the right amount of slow spices to get my mouth going. The bisque was smooth and rich. For our entrees, I ordered the 22oz ribeye and my wife had a surf and turf special that included a parmesan crusted filet and 6oz lobster tail. Her meal came with asparagus and lobster-mashed potatoes, and I ordered a side of small roasted potatoes. I ordered my steak medium-rare, and half of it was perfect but the back half was overdone to the point of being medium-well. It was served with a side of au jus that was so delicious I almost drank it! The steak was wonderful (even though a bit overdone). It was very tender and seasoned beautifully. My wife's steak was also very good. The parmesan crust was done it a very elaborate fashion, with strands of cheese extending down the sides. Her steak was cooked perfectly. The lobster was decadent and rich. Her sides were also very good, but my potatoes were not something I enjoyed (overcooked and flavorless). For dessert, my wife had creme brulee and I had fried ice cream. Both were wonderful. As for the service, it left a bit to be desired. We were seated right next to the bathroom when the restaurant was nearly empty. It was funny because a couple across from us noted also that it seemed odd to seat both of us near a restroom when the house was almost empty. And the door to the bathroom sticks, so it was almost comical to watch and people struggled to get in. Our server was absent for long periods of time. While our soup came out almost immediately, we waited a long time for the entrees. I would certainly come back for the food, but I will ask for a better table in the future.
We came to see Hamilton like so many others. I had called earlier in the day to see if I could have some cake or desserts for after our meal as we were celebrating FIVE birthdays. The gentleman was so nice and assured he would have some cakes and fresh fruit for my daughter who is vegan. I didn’t want to have to whisper and call our server over.
After the planning and calling, nothing was brought to our table. Our server was nice enough, but obviously didn’t get the message. I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it and the girls were excited to get to the theatre. The best part about the restaurant was the location.
We were there for a pre-Hamilton dinner on a weekday. Our service from Nick was great. He knew the wine and the menu very well answering all of our questions and was attentive throughout. The meal was very good. My wife and I both had steaks. Hers was done perfectly, mine was not. The restaurant itself was nice but needed some TLC as the booth we were in had cracked upholstery. At this price I expect, not just good food and atmosphere, but great. Would probably return, as it is so close to CIBC Theater and it was pretty good all-around.
Very, very good and convenient to Hamilton! Had read some online reviews first and were a little concerned about timing our dinner before the 7:30 p.m. show, so we made reservations for 5:45, which was good. I wouldn't come any later. Every thing we ordered--there were six of us and we had appetizers, salads, entrees and dessert--was very, very good. Definitely will return when we are going to the theater.
The steaks at the Grillroom are consistently wonderful - tender, almost melt-in-your-mouth. Delicious! It's a great pre-theater choice but reservations definitely needed in a pre-showtime slot because of very popular show playing nearby. Service is attentive. Food is always excellent.
Classic steakhouse right across the the street from CIBC Theatre where the musical "Hamilton' is playing. Enjoyed the delicious surf & turf special w/ Parmesan cheese encrusted filet mignon and lobster tail. So good! Drink menu was themed on "Hamilton", and I had the Hamil-"Teeny", a dirty martini w/ bleu cheese olives. A terrific prelude for an outstanding play!
Went before Hamilton so it was busy but extremely disappointed with everything we ordered. Even house Salad had lettuce that would normally be thrown out. Mac & cheese we were excited about was blah. Tuna Tatar and seafood entree were terrible.
Dirty plates stayed on table for entire meal. I understand they are swamped before show but bus boys walked by our table several times empty handed.
I wanted a second drink and had to track down waitress who never checked on us. Even the white wine was sour. Possibly the worst dining experience on my wife’s birthday. Also, this is the first review I have ever done
Excellent meal. Tuna appetizer and seafood gumbo were delicious and well prepared. Ribeye was perfectly cooked medium rare.
Only complaint was the long delay between soup and our entree. We had theater tickets and were very rushed to finish our meal. Our waitress was very attentive and apologized for the delay from the kitchen. Not her fault but they specialize in catering to the theater crowd and should have been able to better accomadate
Perfect dinner before Hamilton. Show was at 7:30– reservation was at 6. Great meal, wait staff and ambiance. Directly across street from theater. Parked in Grillroom’ss building’s lot. Easy exit after show. Will go again whether I’m going to the theater or not. Great!
