Fantastic food and attentive staff, even if it wasn’t our personal waiter!
Amber was the best!! Made our experience!
Dinner before the theater. The food was fantastic and our server was friendly and very accommodating. Water glasses were filled as needed. Wonderful experience!
Great downtown convenient venue. Welcoming and friendly, steak was excellent. Restaurant a little dated.
This was a business dinner with colleagues. As usual, the Grill room did not disappoint. Two of us had the fillet. One was Oscar style and was delicious. The other had a Gorgonzola crust and was cooked perfectly. The other two had steak and lobster and carbonara. The carbonara comes with an egg on top, a classic preparation. Everyone enjoyed their meal.
I have been here before and had a better experience. We were seated in the last booth by the restrooms. We watched customers struggle with the door to the restroom during our dinner. Had to tell the customers push hard every time they came to the door. They really need a sign there. Also the booth should not be there. Not a good experience for paying customers. Dinner was brought out without steak knives. We had to wait and ask for them before we could eat. That took some time. Pork chop was too dry, replaced with fillet. Much better. Steak Cobb salad was good. I believe the waiter could have been more attentive to our needs instead of us asking for service. The booth where we were sitting was almost forgotten by everyone .
Delicious food, easy to make reservation, environment conducive for conversation
Everything about The Grillroom was excellent. Great menu options. Great wine options. Great service. Good for all occasions too.
Food was good but portions skimpy - 3 shrimp with the farafelle pasta and very little sauce, 5 artichokes in the the appetizer. Nice atmosphere though.
Fun menu, nice wine list and solid service before Hamilton show. You better go or someone will be sitting in your seat. Enjoy😎
The holiday decorations are gorgeous. Very elegant and festive!
Great customer service and food is fantastic
This was our second visit to the Grillroom and the food was just as good. I had the surf and turf and the filet was tender and delicious. My husband had the pork chop and although it was slightly chewy, the flavor was great and he finished all of it. The only thing lacking this visit was the top notch service we had on our first visit. The server that was assigned to us was not as informational (I had to ask about specials) or as attentive (empty tea glass) as the last time we visited. But he could have just been having an off night. We will definitely to back again.
Everyone was extremely friendly and the food was absolutely outstanding! Perfect place to eat before going to the theater!
The food was superb. Our waiter was amazing. The recommendations were amazing. Cant wait to go back!
The food was absolutely delicious! The service by our wait staff was impeccable. Creme Brûlée was to die for. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Food was delicious, service was great! Great restaurant across the street from the theater! And I liked that our waiter asked if we going to the theater and assured that our food arrived in a timely manner.
Go for happy hour in the wine bar. Good prices for drinks and you can order from the full food menu. Food tastes amazing. Got a couple steaks and sides and dessert. Perfect for celebrating a special occasion or dinner before seeing Hamilton at the theater literally across the street. I was there for both - special occasion and hamilton show. It was the perfect choice and open table reservations made it easy.
The food was fantastic and reasonably priced for Chicago. We came in at 8pm in a Tuesday with maybe five or six other tables in the restaurant. I felt the service was a little slow given the circumstances but everything else about our visit was terrific.
Just an overall wonderful experience! Staff was very accommodating.
Service was bad to start with. Our server took his time to come and ask us what we wanted to drink. After drinks was ordered he basically ignored us, we were thinking about ordering more drinks, but our server never came over to check on us or ask us if we wanted another drink. The food was amazing, the busboy did a better job serving us water better than our server.
One entree was less than expected. Manager came over and listened carefully. Adjusted the price on the bill and we were happy.
Food was bland. Presentation like it had been thrown on plate.
Dinner was a bit disappointing. The portions were small and generally way overpriced.
We chose this restaurant mainly for it's location for a meeting with friends. The food was excellent with lots of choices for all of us. The waiter was very attentive and we didn't feel rushed. It was a nice overall experience and I would definitely go again for dinner. The brussel sprouts were the bomb!
Such an easy dining experience if you’re going to the CUBC Theater. Food is good and the service is so quick!!
Enjoyed our meal before seeing Hamilton at the theater across the street.
the filet mignon was raw, not medium rare. we sent it back - was tasty when it was re-prepared. the salmon was supposed to be medium, and it was overcooked, set on top of a quinoa glop - presentation unappetizing. nice enough service, comfortable environment, food not good enough to return.
Steak was what u would expect. The sides were not exceptional and the mac n cheese was a 1 Star. Great location and the kitchen could do much much better to capitalize on the Hamilton audience. The $$$ is there and the quality of a chip house just not there in comparison to the competition.
We had dinner here before going to Hamilton. The atmosphere, drinks, food and service were good.
Great food and very large servings for a good price.
The Grillroom is the perfect place for dinner before a show at the theater. Service was excellent and timely, the food delish! The whitefish special was very good. Wait staff attentive and friendly. I’ll visit again!
The service was sub-optimal. We had to repeat some requests related to our food order more than once. I also had specified on my reservation and when we arrived at the Maitre D station that it was my wife's birthday. Not even a "happy birthday" from the waiter!
Thank you for leaving this review, Steve! We are sorry that your dining experience with us was not what you had been hoping for. Fabulous! Service was excellent, waitstaff helpful and knowledgeable, food was delicious. We would go again!
We had a wonderful lunch at the Grillroom before going to see Hamilton. Not only was it convenient being right across the street, the the atmosphere and service were great. We both had the scallop appetizer with a bowl of french onion soup. There were 2 large scallops that just melted in you mouth set on a bed of corn relish that red & green peppers, mushrooms, onions & bacon that for a light a lunch was really a meal in itself. The french onion soup was delicious and we really could have just had a cup as it was so filling. We each had a glass of chardonnay which complimented it very well.
Service was great- attentive but not overly so. Food was fantastic. Got 14oz bone in ribeye per waitstaff recommendation- so good!!
Fantastic meal with perfectly prepared seafood and steaks at a fair price. Our wait staff was helpful with the wine selection and prompt with service. The water glass was never empty. If we return to the area again, this restaurant will be on the short list of dining options.
To many good restaurants in Chicago to go to, much better chophouse you can go to. It was convenient to our hotel which was a plus. As for the food, pork chop was cooked to long and dry, my wife’s steak wasn’t cooked to her specification, the sides of Brussel Sprouts were overcooked and dry, the mushroom & grilled onions were cold and the onions were not grilled, it was like they had been in soup?? The salad was very underwhelming. They did top our wine off which was nice. Maybe a bad night in the kitchen??
Thank you for taking the time to write this review! We always appreciate our guests taking the time to share their feedback with us. We take great pride in all of the food that we serve, and so very sorry to hear that what you ordered wasn't to your liking. While we wish you have let us know while you we're dining with us that you weren't satisfied with your choices, we'll make certain that your comments are passed along to our kitchen staff so we can learn from your visit.
While the atmosphere was really nice, the food was not as good. My friend had the halibut with crab potatoes. The halibut was good, and the potatoes were good, but they did not taste like crab at all.
I had french onion soup which was good, but the salad I ordered did not have much on it that it was supposed to have, like onions, etc. I also got chicken on it, which was the blandest chicken I have ever eaten anywhere. There was no seasoning on it at all. The dressing was supposed to be lemon poppyseed vinaigrette. It tasted like straight oil. Nothing else. It was not a vinaigrette. I did not bother taking the leftovers home.
We did have an attentive waitress.
This was a disappointing experience.
Amber was amazing and so helpful with gluten and dairy free options. She was friendly and knowledgeable.
