Great food and service but the chair was extremely uncomfortable and the prices were pretty high, $200.00 for a dinner for two with one drink each and a shared dessert.
Ambiance was fantastic—what a gem! They did an awesome job renovating! Food was average and definitely not worth the high price tag. The worst part: the sautéed shrimp came with a garnish that I made the mistake of eating. It was a red-hot pepper! Not only did my mouth burn for 20 minutes, but I lost all taste for 15 minutes! Not sure what the chef was thinking putting that with any meal!!! Went to the cigar bar afterwards and it was very enjoyable. Cigar selection is a bit limited but they have the basics.
Charming old club setting. Fun to see the building. Food was excellent: no "overcooked", meaning not too many extraneous ingredients just to sound exotic. Nice range of selections. Nice range of wine choices by the glass.
Valentines Day Lunch
Loved the atmosphere, service was outstanding. My eggs Benedict didn't taste right so they immediately replaced it with amazing french toast.
Walked around 1st floor, just a beautiful place
The Grille Room at The Detroit Club is simply outstanding. The food, drinks, atmosphere, service and prices were excellent. Highly recommended for Sunday brunch.
Everything began well enough, nice cocktails. When our meals arrived we realized we had lost our silverware with the salad course. Sat for 3 minutes waiting for someone to check on us, nothing. Finally went into the kitchen myself for them. Next my medium steak turn out to be well done (grey throughout), sent it back and after 20 minutes still didn’t get my meal. Waitress came by and said it will be out soon, but everyone at the table was finished so I told her to forget it. It was my wife’s birthday dinner so dessert and coffee was planned. But no. Our check was brought to the table without asking for it or apology. After seeking out Anthony the manager with my complaints, they offered coffee and dessert without charge. Coffee came but 15 minutes later dessert didn’t. This prompted me to seek out the chef for an explanation as why things were going so poorly. After a short discussion chef Kirk said “look it’s just a meal so why get so upset and sometimes things don’t work out the way you expected “. I was shocked that he felt we came to the Grille Room for “just a meal”. My response was that we actually came for an experience and that I can cook “just a meal” at home. So I shrugged my shoulders and walk away disappointed.
Service was great, ambiance wonderful and Sea Bass amazing. Truly wonderful evening out!
My wife and I enjoyed my Birthday dinner. We enjoyed a drink at the Library Bar in the Detroit Club and a wonderful dinner at the Grille Room.
The design and and decor are remodeled very nicely! It’s like stepping back into the 1930’s as a wealthy elite, but very warm and inviting. The food was 50/50 as 1/2 the meals came out cold and service could certainly be improved since they’re responsible to deliver. Nice wine selection. Overall, I’d go back for special occasions and with friends who want to experience the Detroit Club.
Very delicious food, pleasant server, beautiful ambiance. Everyone sing the way said hello. A happy place to be
Ambiance was amazing, You can feel the history. My boyfriend's steak was perfect, but my lobster pasta fell a bit flat. My daughters loved their chowder. The service was PERFECT.
We had a great time! Food was very good, service was very good, ambience was beautiful! Highly recommended
Food was fabulous and the service was top notch.
I decided to Celebrate my birthday at the restaurant. It was a great experience from the service to the food. The library bar is a great addition. We will be back for sure
Wonderful Brunch! Great menu with many breakfast and lunch items with fabulous cocktails.
Service is always excellent as well as the ambiance. Can't wait to go back.
We loved the whole experience. The ambiance and food were above our expectations.
This was such an amazing experience. The food was divine. Cocktails were fabulous. The music was a classic mix of Motown. No better place that the DetroitClub for Brunch on a Sunday Morning. Our service was beyond amazing!
Did you ever have that feeling of Olde World ambiance co-mingled with the world's best chef's? I would recommend this opportunity (who knows how long they will invite the public) to everyone. The seafood omelette and the pancakes with lemon curd are over the top.
Happy dinning. Definitely impressive. One more week of the test run of Brunch... GO!
Gorgeous renovations of this historic mansion and club make this restaurant's ambiance cozy and romantic for a winter date night. I love historic buildings of Detroit and the menu looked really good. I was unfortunately disappointed with the flavor of the dishes. They were quite bland, therefore, did not feel the prices matched the value of the whole experience. Improve this and it could be a 5 star.
This place has much to offer, however, it was not ready for prime time. The food was great! Give it a try to see history.
First visit and really did not know what to expect. Had been following The Grille Room for a couple months since they started service again and it was the Eater Detroit article announcing the opening of The Library bar within The Detroit Club that prompted me to finally visit. I did so with three guests in tow on the Friday night of the NAIAS Charity Preview and am very happy with the decision. The club itself is very well-kept and all three ladies thoroughly enjoyed roaming all the public spaces, taking every opportunity possible for selfies with the decor. We all enjoyed our appetizers and meals, as well as cocktails at The Library beforehand. The Lamb shank I ordered was nicely done and of very sufficient portion size. This was the case with the other entrees, as well. One of my guests elected to add steak to her salad, but what arrived was basically a decent portion of sliced steak with some salad on the side, lol. I was really impressed with what the club has to offer. You can spend an entire evening here starting with The Library, dinner in The Grille Room, and then moving upstairs to the game room or cigar lounge and each has their own full bar. See the pics.
Overall food pretty good. My steak a little over done, and they gave me a ny strip instead of ribeye. I would have said something but they dropped off so quickly I didn't notice then our server didn't come by for another 30 minutes or so. So glad I didn't wait to say something. After we decided to still try a desert, but after waiting 10-15 minutes for menu them another 15 or so for her to come back we said forget it and asked for Bill. Service was pretty slow from the get go and seemed to get worse as the meal went on. When we first got there thought we had stumbled upon a new gem, but most likely won't return in near future with so many better options nearby.
My experience at The Grille Room was outstanding. Erin was my our server and she was so kind, had great menu recommendations, and did a wonderful job providing an enjoyable dining experience. We went along with her recommendation to start with the appetizer, Mille Feuille D'Hiver, - the combination of mushrooms, tomato, and chevre was delicious. I had the lamb shank for dinner and I loved it. I never usually eat apricots, but after having them alongside the lamb and couscous in this dish, I am definitely going to start cooking with them. My mom ordered the Lobster Agnolotti, which was superb. I plan to order this dish the next time I am here. In addition to the great food, the ambiance and overall atmosphere of The Detroit Club is breathtaking. I believe all Detroiters would benefit from taking a look inside this beautiful, historic place and dining here.
Very nice. We had a family lunch for six of us (all with different tastes). Everyone was able to find a great choice. The atmosphere is wonderful. I'm glad the public has an opportunity to dine in such a historic club in Detroit. The food was very good and the service top-notch. Lots of great food choices for lunch.
We celebrated our 51st. anniversary at the Grill and could not have been happier. The ambiance, service, food and wine selection helped to make this a memorable evening. We especially appreciated the attentive service and the wonderful complimentary dessert.
Great club atmosphere, friendly, efficient service staff
This was my first experience at the Grille Room and it will surely NOT be my last! Everything from the courteous staff, beautiful surroundings, excellent menu and all in Detroit...…..that makes me very happy
Oddly, the chicken was outstanding, but the rest of our meals were just okay (except for my seafood risotto which was disappointing). The service was REALLY pleasant, but they were understaffed and dinner took almost 3.5 hours! Great ambience and potential, but I'm not sure we'll be back.
Awesome Detroit Gem!!! Historic and lovely atmosphere.
You guys, this place is a gem. Go eat here while the Club is open to the public. Great venue...take the time to walk the building after dinner. Very impressive!
Fantastic food. Beautifully restored Detroit Club facility. Great food, but very expensive, which seems to be the trend for “exclusive” restaurants everywhere now. Gorgeous cigar bar on the 3rd floor. This place is really a fantastic location!
Beautiful dining room, great history, fare was amazing, service impeccable. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Looking forward to visiting again.
Sehr gutes Essen mit persönlichem Service. Gutes Weinangebot.
Our server had to have been new. Drink orders took forever, side of veggies did not accompany the meal (cancelled the order,) appetizer took quite a while... maybe half the problem was the kitchen?? The grill room was not terribly busy for things to have been so slow.
Very plush, but comfortable and welcoming. Dinner was very good.
Celebrated our anniversary. Great service and food was good. Enjoyed walking around the Detroit Club and seeing all the different rooms.
It was a delightful experience for our 50th wedding anniversary. Superb food, service, and ambiance.
Love the atmosphere! I’ve dined here several time, food is always just mediocre unfortunately.
great staff (personable and knowledgeable), excellent food (even the well-done filet) and comfortably quiet for conversation. "I'll be back"
Outstanding. Executive Chef Kirk McKinney has hit his stride with this downtown gem. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection as well as the charred broccolini side. We were fortunate enough to get a tour of the spa, the guest rooms and the other facilities, but, again, the dinner was amazing. We are returning with a bigger group next week.
