What Insiders Are Saying
The Grill is the revamp of the legendary Four Seasons restaurant, run by the people behind Carbone. It’s very similar, very expensive, and worth it.
Pretentious place serving average food and drinks at exorbitant prices.
The service was top notch, as was the food, as were the drinks. Outstanding overall experience.
The prime rib was fantastic as was the service. If you want a really special treat have the pasta a la press for an appetizer. I
We were seated across from a open service area with servers streaming in and out. It was noisy and obnoxious and possibly the worst dining experience I’ve ever had in my life at a nice restaurant. We dine out in cities all over the world 3-5 nights a week. There were quite a few nicer tables available and they would not move us when I asked. If we had not been with a client I would have walked out. The food was delicious but our meal was ruined from the start because of the hustle bustle taking place at our table.
Terrific experience but not for the faint of wallet
The frustration was wait 15 minutes for table I arrived on time. After everything was very nice
Now we know why Robb Report Magazine rated this restaurant #2 in the entire US. An absolutely over-the-top experience in every possible respect. We will be back for sure.
Nice updated room with a high ceilings. Food, especially their specialties were great. Were lucky to get a table on the mezzanine level which was quieter.
The other couple cancel.
We had a wonderful meal, the service was attentive and excellent and the food was excellent. Not a place for an intimate meal as the restaurant is bustling and loud (but not in a bad way). Great NYC experience.
Best restaurant of the year:
A great experience while visiting NYC. The service was impeccable and watching the staff move about the restaurant was like watching a ballet. My husband commented on how well the staff seemed to enjoy being there and always acted respectfully to guests and to each other. The food was delicious. This is a very expensive splurge -- but worth it for the unique opportunity to experience this iconic NYC setting.
Very over priced. $80 for shrimp cocktail. Will not go back just due to expense
The prime rib was too rare and chewy. The filet mignon with pepper was too salty to eat. Waiter was excellent and he tried to make it up to us. We don’t mind paying for a good meal but this was not anywhere near what I was expecting. Will not go back and will not recommend to anyone.
The landmarked interior is done justice and more with excellent service and a classic menu. While reservations for a meal generally book up in advance, we were lucky enough to get in for dinner 2 weeks out. We liked our dinner so much, we returned a couple days later with friends to enjoy drinks at the bar and share this special place with them as well!
Fabulous in every way
This is a superb new addition to the Manhattan dining scene. I dined at the old Four Seasons as a kid, for one of my first fine-dining experiences, and the room has been restored to its old glamour. But the food and service are better than ever -- the food consists of updated and superbly executed classics, and the service is extremely attentive but not hovering. This would be an excellent restaurant for a special occasion (we were here to celebrate a birthday), and we will definitely return!
The food was ok. Very basic and not hard to execute. Prime rib stuck out the most but you can’t choose temp. They say it’s medium rare but my piece was definitely rare.
Fast forward, we were there to taste for possible event for dec 1st. (FYI unless you buyout they won’t let you book until fall. That’s ABSURD!) Anyway...if that weren’t the case we wouldn’t book based on how insulting the sommelier was. All he could say is “I used to work at Jean Georges and I never opened the bottle at table and allowed guests to taste wine before decanting.” UMMMMMM NO! You should open the bottle in the dining room and allow us to taste before doing anything else with the wine! And we don’t like to decant our wine, so that was the main issue! The producer of the wine (we’ve been there) says we should allow their wines to open up in bottle to not stress.
HORRIBLE experience and we won’t be back. We don’t need spend that kind of money ($700 for 2 ppl) to argue with a grumpy somm who should retire.
Thanks OT for asking us to review. I
Absolutely outstanding in every way.
Amazing space with a fabulous bar and great cocktail list. Food was wonderful as was the service! Doesn’t get any better than this!
Food was very good, presentation excellent and the service superb.
Service was very rushed and a tad unfriendly. Dessert was less than stellar and literally served the minute after our dinner plates were cleared. Since this was a special occasion, I had hoped for a more exceptional and leisurely experience.
Great staff and space! Ordered lamb chops medium...had to send them back because they were too rare. Also, 3 single lamb chops ala carte for $85???
Our waiter was very smart and attentive
Me and one of my friends arrived a little early and they led us to the bar area, which was already beautiful. Wonderful service and drink suggestions. At our reservation time a server came to get us and they transferred our bar tab to our table. The service was excellent and so friendly! The food was out of this world.
To start, the apps: the crab cake, fois gras, pasta a la press, house cured salmon, chilled crustacean, and continental ham. All amazing! Don't be fooled by other reviews that say that crab cake is very small. We shared it between 4 of us! The pasta was absolute heaven. Whatever you do, don't miss out on this dish! The salmon was another favorite at the table. We could've ordered one for each of us the way we fought over it.
On the entrees: most of us ordered the duckling based on other yelp reviews, one ordered the rib eye steak (which we all stole some of). As other reviews said, the duck does not disappoint. It was hands down the best duck I've ever had. The skin was perfectly crisp, and the sauce gave it a wonderful tangy flavor. The rib eye was cooked perfectly, and cut table side.
Sides: For the sides we got the buttered dumplings, the grits with marrow, Chinoise asparagus, and Barley Forester. Again, Everything was cooked to perfectly. The dumplings were so creamy, I wish I had more room in my stomach at this point to keep going. My absolute favorite side though was the grits with marrow. I could stuff myself silly with it. It amazing. I didn't want to stop eating, not matter how full I was!
Dessert: (yes we kept going!) Lemon chiffon cake, baked alaska, chocolate cake, and a peach dome cake. Between the 4 of us each one picked one of these as our favorite! Mine was the lemon cake, although the display of the baked alaska was beautiful! And each was so amazing, regardless of how full we were, we still devoured everything!
Prices are steep, so be prepared, but it's definitely worth it for the quality in service and food!
The most fantastic dining experience! Thank you, The Grill!! xxx
Everything was superb
As expected the food was exceptional in terms of freshness, quality, and flavor. A pet peeve for a fine dining experience is when the dishes arrive separately for each guest. The prime rib and Dover sole where prepared table side and served simultaneously. However duck pressed pasta arrived over 5 tortuous minutes later with no comment or explanation leaving the other dishes cold.
It was a great experience. Probably one of the best meals we’ve had in years! A total treat. OK
Excellent, just excellent
A great place to celebrate. An iconic space renews with imaginatively reconfigured classics. Very expensive though!
Great place! But too expensive for salt and pepper seasoned food.
What a special evening we had indeed at the Grill. Be prepared to be transported back in time to another era where attention to detail , food preparation, and the commitment and passion of the waitstaff are all a priority. This is an example of getting what you pay for and, at least for us, it was appreciated and enjoyed. This is the type of NYC restaurant that could have pompous staff and thankfully it did not. We will return for another special occasion.
Friendly knowledgeable staff and killer drinks
Amazing! One of the best dining experiences in nyc
