I really miss the restaurant! The food at the Grill is pretty standard fare (burgers, hot dogs, etc) and they have great value for
bottles of wine. The view is the gold course and ambiance was beautiful. The food was just a miss for me.
Disappointed the restaurant was not open for full dining.
Still very limited menu, but great service
Made a reservation for Monday. The grill is open on Mondays for golfers only. Obviously, there is an issue that can be solved. However, the staff were rude. That is not acceptable. From what I could tell it is a simple concessionary.
Limited menu, had to order food at a window, however they did bring food to you. All food served in “to go” containers.
We were extremely surprised that Open Table would book a reservation for the ratty set-up Wente Vineyards is foisting on unsuspecting diners: walk up to a window to order your burger or hot dog, then seat yourself! Avoid this place and visit Garre Winery for a real brunch.
Service was great!
I was expecting better food and service. The place is beutifull but the foos was not as expected
It doesn’t seem to be the same restaurant that we used to go. Since they reopen, this is the first time back for us. The table service, the regular menu is gone! The bar tender not only has to do his job of bar tending but also has to ck in guests with reservations and take order. Food is delivered in take out boxes. The food is subpar. It’s like cafeteria food but with a full service restaurant price. We are very disappointed 😞
There is no real service here at the Grill. You order your food at a walk up window and someone will bring it to your table in a to-go box.
I wanted the Wetmore Cab but they were out. How does a winery run out of wine? She said it was in the cave up on the hill.
There is also a limited menu.
I’ll wait until service is restored before I go back. I can go to any drive up window anywhere to get the experience we received. Covid or no Covid, other establishment are doing more for their patrons.
Sitting on the patio in the sun is great. Nice view. Walk up self-service window is fine, but the options are limited.
Website is extremely misleading.
Thought the reservation made was for the restaurant's outdoor area under the canopy of trees next to the restaurant (an early Mother's Day).
Instead, we were directed to the Pro Shop and around to the back to the snack bar - a walk-up counter where you pay and grab drinks, and then food is brought out by the very hardworking server/cashier/bartender.
So happy Mom has a good sense of humor!
I had been to the Grill twice previously and it was an amazing experience. Excellent service, great food, etc. This time, perhaps due to Covid, it was not ideal. We had reservations but were told by the staff that those did not matter and the table wasn’t actually reserved. The food was not great, especially for the value. And we didn’t even get a side with our breakfasts which is bananas to me. Overall, I would definitely not return. Service was OK at best, we had to even ask for cutlery, the wait was extreme and we were even told, “reservations don’t really matter.” Finally, I was shocked as an Nth degree wine club member that I didn’t get a bottle discount on the two bottles I purchased.
I’m not sure why they are even taking reservations the restaurant isn’t even open. It’s a snack shack basically. We ordered food through a window and it was delivered in styrofoam. We enjoyed a nice bottle of wine too but it was disappointing not to get full service. Our county has lifted Covid restrictions for indoor dining so not sure why they haven’t, hopefully they will open up again soon.
Covid experience was not what I expected. Wine in plastic cups=horrible. Only a few items to choose from on the menu, not very many options and the food comes in to go boxes. Makes the experience ’cheap’. No servers, you have to go up to a window to order.
Terrible, wine in plastic glasses instead of glass, have to order your own food at a window, won’t go back
The grill was fine. You have to go to the window to order and then your server brings your food to the table. Food was good although my hamburger didn’t have any aioli sauce or mayonnaise, or other sauces as I recall from pre-COVID dining. It was a great day to be outside!
Wente is so beautiful! Of course due to covid things are still restricted. Food was just okay, as it was at the golfers grill. However; the view and wine was spectacular. Still worth the visit on a beautiful day.
Normally one of my favorite spots, but the food was dry and tasteless. They used solo cups for the wine and the food came in styrofoam containers. I understand COVID restrictions, but this was a little over the top. I could have handled most of this stuff, but the food was horrible and they ran out of the wine we were drinking. I’m still not sure how that happens at a winery. We won’t be back anytime soon.
The ambience and service was really good. I would have enjoyed more food selections. (Salads)
Wasn’t informed that they weren’t operating as normal. You order at a window, and their menu is made up of burgers, sandwiches, etc. ...doesn’t exactly pair well with wine.
Delicious hamburger, lovely setting and good service. Great for a casual luncheon outdoors.
I had a wonderful time, I had never been here before and I was more than pleased.
This is a snack shack serving items like hot dogs, burgers, tacos, candy and chips. They could not even give the child with us a hot dog because the hot dogs were still frozen and "not thawed out". The tacos were flavorless. You order through a window and they drop your food at the table in to- go containers. We were expecting something completely different from Wente and made the mistake of bringing our mom here for her 85th birthday. Now we need a compete do-over and we need to take her somewhere else. The scenery is nice overlooking the golf course so if you just want wine in a plastic cup and a view you might enjoy it. But the food was awful.
Food menu was limited due to Covid restrictions, so we didn’t eat. Enjoyed a bottle of their Wente Wine and enjoyed the beautiful view.
COVID has really taken a big toll on this place. Venue great, menu has shrunk, plastic plates and wine glasses but still priced very high.
Would not Recommend. Made this reservation to take my mom to lunch for her birthday, we were excited but ultimately we were very disappointed to see that the food was ordered through a window and delivered to you in a take out box. It honestly seemed like we were in a drive thru. Having spoken to others in the order line, the experience wasn’t what anyone was expecting. We ended up leaving and going somewhere downtown, with an actual waitstaff, for lunch instead.
Not what I expected. Sandwiches and other fare for the golf course. Not even remotely that nice. Will not return.
Experience was sufficient waitress could have been a bit more cheerful ambiance was great needed some music overall 3 star ⭐️
I know COVID has changed things, but window service with only a handful of options, paper boxes and plastic glasses at this point is disappointing. View is always nice, but so is a lot of other places.
The Wente Grill is a great spot for lunch on the patio overlooking the golf course and the hills.
I really like eating here but it has changed due to Covid. Now, one must order at a small window...find a table outside to eat. I spent $65.00 for wine,a taco and a burger. Gave a nice tip. When it arrived it was in styrofoam and plastic forks and glasses. I asked for a real glass for my wine...they said no. Will not be going back and will cancel my wine membership too.
Covid19 Review: service was poor, but specifically because of pandemic protocols. Food was decent but over priced, menu very limited.
Wine served in plastic glasses.... this is a winery for Pete Sakes!$! Give us a proper glass. Calming afternoon by the links.
dont know what is going on at wente for the food. The restaurant is gone - the grille was dismal both in variety of food and quality. Wente was my go to place for elegant dining in the East Bay. Will it ever come back?????
Not worth the hype. Yes the view was pretty.. but the service was rude and short and the sandwiches were dry and boring for $40. Went down the street to wine tasting and got actual glasses, here we got plastic solo cups and food in a box.
Disappointed in the venue, food was similar to a hotdog stand.
Been to the Grill several time prior to COVID and it was great experiences. It’s just so different now and hope it will get better in the future after COVID.
As of this date your "reservation" is actually "first come" with a line for ordering from a black board menu. There is a server who brings your boxed "to go" orders to your table and will correct orders as required. On this day the weather was amazing which added stars to the overall experience.
I thought I was going to the restaurant
It is a hamburger grill
My mistake the restaurant is closed during the pandemic
Service is outstanding
