Hacienda del Sol is a truly unique Tucson Gem. The venue is very special. Staff is friendly and provide exceptional service. The bartender was exceptional, and informative of the many custom blend drinks available. The filet selection was yummy, very very tender. The dining room is very relaxing and the views of the Catalina Mountains are spectacular. The courtyard area has cozy patio furniture to relax and enjoy the evening, especially the visually stunning landscaping. The whole experience was worth the trip to Hacienda del Sol.
Wow, what an experience. We took a small group to celebrate our wedding and everything was perfect, including the sunset they arranged. Cocktails were outstanding, the wine list was the most extensive we’ve seen in a long time. We knew the venue was good, we didn’t know just how great. We’ll be back to celebrate our anniversary.
Disappointed this time. All 6 of us have enjoyed this fine dining place in past years for special dinners and celebrations. In the past it has been a 5 star experience. It was not the same this time. While the food is high quality, there is something missing in the preparation. Dishes were bland, lacking flavor, and uninteresting.......not worthy of the Grill at Hacienda Del Sol. This was true of the amuse bouche, the caesar salad, and the rack of lamb. We all added salt and pepper to try to liven the taste. I must say the service while uneven at times was generally excellent. The place is beautiful, and the prices are too high... designed for a 5 star experience, which was lacking this time
I rated it 4 stars this time, which is kind. I do think we will try it again, however, because of its fine history.
Not for everyday dining due to the prices. Excellent for a special occasion. Good service and food. Nice bar and the views are terrific.
I will start with the food, which was well prepared, and our server in the Terrazo, who was good. The property is lovely. HOWEVER, the overall experience was stressful. We arrived on time for our reservation at The Grill, an upscale fine dining restaurant we were rewarding ourselves with after a stressful week. I asked in the notes for an outdoor table and this is recorded on our res. We were shown to an indoor table, no window, bright lights overhead, nearly empty hot and stuffy dining room. The outdoor area adjacent, with the big view we came for, with the menus we expected, and which had a few empty tables, apparently has a different name and we were thus not allowed to sit there. We were told that their casual restaurant , the Terrazo, outdoor, tacos, etc, would be available in 30 min. We decided to leave, as our res was not being honored and we wanted the Grill menu. Now @15 min has gone by, stressful, and as we were leaving a table in the Terrazo opened up and we were NOW told that we could order the Grill menu from there. We said ok and were led to a far back table away from the garden. When we asked for an empty table open air, THAT was denied as reserved. Finally, we were offered an umbrella table just off the patio, nice. No view but by now we didn’t feel like driving and stayed. No one even offered us a drink for our hassle. Just stated that we hadn’t used the right terminology in our reservation. ( of course, they could have called us to clarify when we reserved. They certainly had the information and my “outdoor” request. ) Who needs an ordeal at an expensive restaurant? Go elsewhere
Hadn't been to Hacienda del Sol for a very long time and found it to be as good as or better than it had been the last time we were there. Service was excellent and the food was very good. We'll be back.
Our view by the window looking out at the canyon and golf course was amazing!
The food was delicious. We ordered the lamb and the scallops and are every last bite. We enjoyed celebrating our anniversary here.
Although the ambience is terrific, the Grill is very uneven in service and quality of food. We were greeted by a surly, unwelcoming hostess (bad) but led to the table by a delightful host, Bing (great!). We were served by an excellent waiter, Hebert (great!) but the sommelier was distracted and not very helpful in selecting a wine (bad).
The food was uneven as well. The amuse bouche was a tiny slice of brie on (if I recall correctly) a tiny slice of cucumber -- this is not an amuse bouche; it barely would quality as a canape. Both appetizers came from the kitchen lukewarm, not hot. The octopus was tough and chewy.
The scallop entree consisted of an elevated pile of mashed potatoes and THREE scallops. . . .and the charge was $42 for this dish. The 3 scallops were delicious, but this is not a good value on any level.
Overall, I would not recommend the Grill for dinner. I think I'd go back for a cocktail or glass of wine in the courtyard to enjoy the view and the garden. Beyond that, I could not recommend the Grill to any sophisticated diner.
The Grill is in a very nice setting overlooking the Hacienda's property. The menu has a wide array of interesting selections. We had the octopus and salmon entrees and both were excellent. The carrot cake with a carrot sorbet and candied carrots intrigued us and was also excellent. Pricey but well worth it. Highly recommended.
It has been several years since we have eaten here and the last experience was mediocre, however, it appears they have a new chief and a greatly improved menu. The noise level was a bit high and exaggerated by a roaming guitarist who was using a portable amplifier. It was difficult to have a conversation at times. It has a quaint old west décor. It is locally owned so it doesn't have a national chain feel.
Beautiful place. Very “Arizona “. Lovely patio. Attentive staff. A bit pricey but would definitely go back.
Have never been disappointed with the food or the service. This time the food was exceptional and the service was extraordinary .
As poor an experience for an anniversary as you can have, absolutely clueless hostess/matrai de as we’ve experienced in awhile, had requested and they aware, specific table, said group at table just finishing up, we, hold wait, 50 minutes later informed they had decided to have desert, would we like to see another table when it’s ready!,, 20 minutes later shown a table, in corner, back to view, incapable of handling situation, we got nothing, zip, in recognition of wait/failure, Herbert our waiter did nice job, nothing he could do to overcome disaster, NEVER consider this for special occasion
Pure de sweetpotatoe muy spicy
Outstanding view, service and meal. Edwardo, the classical guitarist, was an added bonus of incredible talent and certainly complimented the experience!
Excellent restaurant for special occasions. Wine and entrees are expensive but worth it. Hacienda del Sol is historic and it is absolutely lovely with beautiful landscaping and buildings. Definitely a place we would return to celebrate special evenings.
Perfect as always, a gem in Tucson with historic ambiance. Outstanding dinning in the Foothills, service and food impeccable.
Great spot for dinner for two with city view with great food and great service.
Great ambiance, view and food. Waiter was very attentive
Wonderful place... Juno the waitress gave us the best service... she made our 16 year wedding anniversary really special.
Have been coming for 20+ years. Last three times, have been disappointed. Writing to let you know I am taking a time out. Don Carrig
The atmosphere and fine wine and food are always amazing! Our favorite restaurant to visit while in Tucson!
Very good food and service, wasn’t the best seat in the house though and your views affect the value
Very pleasant evening and excellent food Sunset was wonderful
The location is very pretty - it was dark so we couldn't see the view but I hear it's outstanding. The service is very attentive and good. But sorry, the food tries to be gourmet, with 'amuse bouche' and little chocolate gifts at the end, but overall we found the cuisine to be okay, but nothing special - which makes it a poor value for the price.
We took a friend from Boston to dinner at Hacienda del Sol. As usual the food, service & atmosphere were top tier. Even though we’re in a desert, the sea food is great. The appetizers are terrific and the wine selection excellent.
What a disappointment. The food is good (not great, and certainly not as good as more reasonable places) but the hostess was downright rude and the waiter was upselling every chance he got (including only being given the drinks menu at first). This is not fine dining. Sad because it used to be a lovely experience.
Husband and I both agree it’s absolutely the best restaurant we have ever been to.
Everything was simply outstanding. We enjoyed the roasted chicken and a beautiful filet - also, what a view!!
We waited for over a half an hour past our reservation time of 8pm and no service/beverage was offered as complements for the inconvenience. It also took the waitress over 10 minutes to come to our table after being seated to introduce herself and take a drink order. Food was okay and over priced.
Appreciated the quiet dining area, as we were having lunch with our senior parents. Normally they cannot hear the conversation if the dining area is too noisy. The food was very good, and our server allowed just the right amount of time for a leisurely lunch. Everyone was very friendly. The grounds are very much a hacienda, which was fun and colorful.
Wonderful food with beautiful views and live music made our meal one to remember. The sole and the scallops were delicious!
Elegant setting , loved the jazz pianist. Wonderful complimentary dessert, delectable chocolates!
The food and service was excellent. The wait staff attentive but not overbearing. The sunset view was unbeatable. We were able to carry on a conversation without overwhelming background noise
Mediocre food. Way over priced. Limited menu. Lighting too bright. Hard to read menu.
From the minute we arrived on property we were treated like royalty! The host was especially welcoming, ensuing we had the best seat in the house with an amazing view(his favorite). The staff was professional and courteous. The food was absolutely amazing. It turned out to be the highlight of our date night.
We were celebrating the last day of our month + vacation time in Tucson and knew that dinner here while watching awesome sunset and light come on across the valley would be matched by the great food and service. It was... and it was worth the trip.
Everything was wonderful. The Gruyere fondue amazing. God and service excellent.
It is, however, quite overpriced.
Nevertheless I would recommend.
Perfection! Wonderful, inventive menu using local ingredients from desert plants. Service superlative. Everything from the rack of lamb to the steak to the octopus was delicious. The apple dessert was out of this world.
