The Grill at Hacienda Del Sol Ratings and Reviews
A must visit restaurant whenever I have guests. The Happy Hour is an exceptional value and they serve some of the very best Margaritas in all of Tucson. I never fail to take visitors to at least one meal or cocktails at Hacienda del Sol...it is unique to Tucson, has magnificient views - make sure to have a cocktail on the lawn at sunset!
Outstanding menu options, salads, entrees and service! Cesar salad, filet, seafood dishes and apple dessert were delicious! Very nice presentation of dinners. Chef sent out a complimentary tasting - delicious! Table location by window has a very nice view of the city lights.
Our friends were celebrating their anniversary. The chef sent out a lovely plate with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate along with a special chocolate dessert tasting.
An absolutely fantastic place with amazing service; the dishes ordered (beef and lamb) were perfectly cooked and flavored. My only comment was the temperature at what the red wine (by the glass) was served; it was close to 50F when it should have been closer to 65F. Other than that I highly recommend this place
Being native to the Tucson area, I have enjoyed The Grill many times over the years, usually at Sunday brunch, and have previously always had a five-star experience. This was a Christmas Day brunch, however, and, while still one of the best restaurants in the region, it did not live up to its usual excellence. The buffet itself was slightly disappointing, missing many of my Sunday brunch favorites. The prime rib was not quite as good as usual in aging, seasoning or tenderness. The ham was somewhat dry. Many of the dishes, however, were superb, as was the variety. The main areas where the experience failed was in service. I had made the reservation a month in advance, requesting the main dining room. I paid in advance and asked that no bill be presented at the table. Instead, we were seated on the patio. The waiter, though trying to be amusing and pleasant, seemed deaf to our requests. For example, we ordered 3 coffees and one mimosa- he brought 3 mimosas and one coffee, and it took awhile to get the correct order. I asked for cream for my coffee, it never came. He presented my bill at the table, and when I admonished him, he stated that they had made a mistake in the bill and it had to be recalculated, and also had to add the mimosa. He then proceeded to announce to the dining room the amount of the bill! Not what one expects from this class of restaurant.
We chose this restaurant to celebrate my 52nd birthday. Piano player provided live music, including "Happy Birthday" song. Ambience and Food were excellent. Quiet to moderate noise level given the place was nearly full that is to be expected. Pricey, but worth it. Menu is simple one page for starters, and one page for main courses, something for everyone without being overwhelming.
Excellent service, excellent atmosphere, excellent food. As usual a very nice wine list. The guitar music brought back some lovely memories of warm nights along the river in Sevilla. Both the salmon and the sea scallops were done perfectly and nothing was over-sauced. Bravo!
I was fortune to have a business partner in town who loves food and also has a generous company account. When he asked where we should eat, Hacienda del Sol was at the top of my list. The food is always amazing, and it certainly was this time as well. The service is what makes it stand out though. Our server was attentive without being overbearing and didn't rush us through the meal.
Everything was great! Food, service, etc. I ordered a pork chop that was cooked perfectly with amazing flavors and sides to compliment. Dessert was a flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sorbet that was very delightful. Extremely happy with the experience... and as a picky person I am not easily pleased :)
Offers an authentic ambiance reminiscent of the best of Tucson's past. Yet the menu listings feature unexpected dishes that incorporate both past and present. While not inexpensive, there are few restaurants left that provide an all encompassing experience from the moment you step inside.
Brunch at the Grill never fails to please all of my taste buds! Succulent shrimps, flavorful and melt in your mouth grilled chuck steak, omelette bar, wide range of salads...not just iceberg lettuce, hot entrees like goulash, sushi, desserts that you will succumb to even if you’re not a dessert person (namely me!) and of course the never ending blood orange mimosas or bloody mary’s. Service is excellent and the wait is never long even if you do not have a reservation. The best thing is the ambiance of leisurely dining with friends ala European style.
Sensational food and very pleasant, friendly, attentive staff. The view provides the icing on the cake.
The staff appear to be trained to find something worth praising and compliment you on it. It provides a little extra pleasure to an already pleasant evening.
I have been a big fan of Hacienda del Sol for many years. This was my first time back since the EXPANSION/remodel. The quality of everything has gone down to 3 star except the beautiful Sonoran Desert surrounds and the 360 degree view of the mountains and the city lights are still 5Star in my book.
We arrived and made our way thru a drunken wedding party to the host/hostess stand. No one was there so we went to the bar to order a cocktail. Drink menus were brought and snacks laid out, but no one took our order as the bar staff seemed preoccupied with talking to each other behind the bar even after we tried to order.
Finally a hostess approached us and asked if we had a reservation, which we did, so we were seated with not a word from the bar staff as we left to be seated. Our waitress (Juno) was very knowledgeable and was exceptional considering what I would consider a not too great experience. I don't mind price as long as I feel it is worth the value, however at The Grill I feel there can be some improvements.
The meal was not hot (lamb chops) nor were the other sides, first cocktail was mixed incorrectly and the food runners did not get our wait staffs attention to remedy. I gave 3 stars because Juno made the best of an unspectacular dining experience.
Maybe on my next anniversary I will have a more pleasant experience. We didn't tell them as we just wanted to enjoy ourselves with a nice unencumbered evening enjoying 27 great years. We expect ups and downs in life and maybe they had an off night, but I was really surprised! BTW-My wife thankfully knew I had tried to plan a thoughtful evening.
I've gone to Hacienda Del Sol for special occassions for years and this was my first time back since moving away. The whole entire experience felt outdated and forced. The menu lacked a single dish that spoke to any one of our party of 6. We ordered some apps and they ranged from just ok to flat out gross. The swiss chard fondue came with an egg in the middle of it and didn't add anything to the fancy cream of mushroom soup like base. The grilled octopus had good flavors, but was a bit rubbery. The best thing on our table was the turkey sandwich and fries we ordered from the kids menu for my nephew.
