Green Room - Greenville - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
While the food was pretty good, my Tile fish was a bit overcooked and seemed crucnchy/dry. The salad was excellent and the service was very good. They were out of meat loaf which is typically outstanding and would be what I typically order there. They removed their mac and cheese which used to be on the menu and was also outstanding when they used to serve it.
This restaurant is under new ownership, so if you liked it before you may not now. Prices have went up but the food quality & quantity has gone down. We asked the server if we could substitute a side and he responded with no, as they usually run out of the item we were asking for. They used to have two sides with many dishes but now it's only one and what they do have lacks taste. One of the biggest let downs was the fried green tomatoes, they used to be great. This appetizer now has three slices of a small tomato with a little sauce on it for $10, not good. The music was awful. It was some sort of loud Motown music that does not fit the usual customer base. Overall the restaurant has taken a drastic nose dive and we probably will not go back. I do hate it when a good restaurant changes ownership and the new ownership decides to cut the quality/quantity, yet increases the prices.
Neat little place we have never been there because the sign outside doesn't make it look special. Goes to show you how logo and design makes a difference in impressions.
Once inside seated quickly with our reservation, the decor seems a little hodge podge but it was cute. We liked how it was small and intimate not a big loud place
The food was good
We ordered shrimp and grits
A steak past dish and a chicken sandwich. All four of us were pleaseed. the shrimp and grits could have been hotter as in served quicker
The bar was decent overall good place and would go back
Great atmosphere since the renovation earlier this year and would recommend as a place with decent drinks. Appetizer special of pork belly was outstanding and wedge salad was great as well, but entrees were pretty average considering the near $40 price tag of many items. I would recommend sticking with specials. Overall, would go again but you could find better options in Greenville if you are looking for a $100+ dining experience for two.
Just ok. They tried to squeeze 7 people in a booth. Yeah not gonna happen. 4 seats comfortably in their booths. And yes I did have reservations. They ended up giving us an extra table across from each other. Not ideal. Crowded and noisy place. Definitely green if you like that you're set. Service was just okay. Duck was tough and very salty. Everyone else's dinner was just okay. Orange cake was disgusting. Wouldn't eat there again.
They did not have a table for us even thou there were 6 empty tables with menus on them. We sat at the bar and it took 15 minutes to get waited on , then another 10 minutes for a Budweiser and a mixed drink. They didn't have the main ingredient for the $9 mixed drink, we ordered appetizers and received 5 oysters......on a " half dozen" order......dinner came and seafood was cold in the middle, steak was under cooked , our drinks stayed empty even though bar tender would occasionally walk by and not notice, finally got a refill, asked for a check and after 20 minutes of waiting and trying to wave the bar tender down ( again with empty glasses) we had to get up and head to the other end of the bar to again ask for a check - we were never asked how our meal was or if we needed anything additional - we would have loved to have had the chance to have the steak cooked a bit more. Sad thing is they were not very busy.
We love everything about The Green Room - they now have the whole flounder that is absolutely wonderful. - Collard greens as a side was wonderful too.. We came two nights in a row - because we love the crab cakes and wanted to have it all during our visit to Greenville.
They used to have to Brussels sprouts that we actually came to have but were removed from menu - little disappointed in that - maybe they will be added back someday.
The service was terrible. My friend ordered the chicken and the waiter brought her the duck. It then took 30 minutes to bring the correct order, and on the bill, the reason for the change listed was that she changed her mind! The food was also terrible. Cold and lacked flavor.
Horrible service! Unfortunately, we had a terrible experience at Green Room this evening. We arrived right on time for our reservation. Once seated in the very back, our server Sara finally came and said "we are slammed". She took our drink order and when she finally returned with the drinks, she took our food order. She never brought water, never checked on us again, and we waited 50 minutes and still no food. We never saw her again, so we had to walk out to make our theater time. We arrived at 6:30 and left at 7:25 pm hungry.
Oh man, this is a hard review to write. I really thought I loved this restaurant because I had been there before and really enjoyed it. However, this time, we waited 55 minutes for our food- which was a shrimp salad (shrimp takes 5 minutes to steam or grill) and a piece of chicken (literally a grilled chicken breast). In fairness, my friend asked for no pepper on her chicken. But really? Take a chicken breast put some salt on it and send it out. How could this simple meal take that long. On top of which our waitress was nice, but uninforming. She did not come to the table once to tell us why it was taking so long. It was a very poor experience. I would NEVER pay $20 for a few leaves of mixed greens and 5 pieces of shrimp- EVER again. It's semi sad but I really would not go back. If our meal needed to take that long, she really should have come and given us updates...
This was our first time at the Green Room and we so enjoyed ourselves. Thank you to our server, John, for his professionalism, expert knowledge and kind attention. Our meal included She Crab Soup, Scallops, Salmon Special, Brownie Dessert .... each excellent. Will definitely return for more tasting!
The new renovations were nice, but I really didn't see any huge changes- I guess I have blinders on, and liked the old decor just fine. The food was great, we had tuna tartare (very good, though small), she crab soup (I thought it lacked some sweetness you expect with fresh crab), and the fried flounder- a show stopper! Absolutely nothing like the flounder in Greenville. Easy to split the portion too. I'll be back for the flounder, and look forward to trying other dishes off the new menu.
This is a very nice small space for any dining ocassion. I have had a very good birthday lunch with family there and a dinner with friends. The atmosphere is nice, lively but quiet enough to have good conversation. Also we had a later dinner there with out of town guests and the food was delicious as well as predictable. The wait staff has been very excellent. This will continue to be our to go place in downtown! Thanks for being consistent and dependable.
The new decor is gorgeous. The chairs at the tables are very comfortable. Thank you! Our server, Robert, was absolutely top-notch and gave us excellent care. We both enjoyed our cocktails, our entrees and our bottle of wine. The chicken breast served over mashed potatoes was very yummy. A lot of the times, chicken is overcooked, but mine was perfect. My friend had the salmon special of the night and loved it. It was quite a healthy portion too! She really didn't want risotto, but ended up cleaning her plate. Even though we were full, we finished off with the brownie and it was the best brownie dessert I have had anywhere. Wonderful experience. We will be back.
The new Green Room is a big improvement on the old. The decor is much better and it's cleaner in general. I always felt the tables were sticky and the place wasn't clean under the previous management. The prices are now a bit steep, but the food was very good. You can chose the sauce for the pasta you want and it was cooked a perfect al dente. The scallops were also delicious. The kitchen was a bit slow, but the manager came by to say they were still working out a few kinks. We will definitely return. The whole experience was very pleasant.
They were already out of two of the specials by 8pm --- 1 being the main reason we went there. They no longer offer warm bread prior to meal. There were many open tables, but more people started to come in around 9 - 9:30 mostly to the bar area.
This use to be our all time downtown restaurant, but it is not as good as it use to be for sure.
Met a friend for a glass of wine and dinner. We had heard you had a great happy hour. Wine is not on happy hour? It was $12 a glass and the red was old. We ordered an appetizer mainly for the waiters sake there was no one else in there. We went down to nose dive where there was only one table available hmmmm wonder why. We had missed happy hour by that time but their wine was cheaper and better. Sad to say but we won't be back.
