   Great food as always and lovely location on the river,friendly staff. Little bit pricey but consider good value for money and will keep coming back. My favourite place to go for a Sunday roast and would recommend.

    Exceptional food and friendly service! If I was being fussy I would say that the tables in the bar area it feels like they have tried to squeeze in too many tables!! The place to go for a Sunday roast and a nice glass of wine!

    We enjoyed our food even though we had to wait 30 minutes from being seated to order being served. When we arrived it was also cold but when we complained a fire was light. Undecided whether to return

    Drove for an hour to meet friends here on a Sunday. It was definitely worth it! Food was absolutely delicious!! Lovely setting. Top highlight was the panna cotta and blackberry sorbet - absolutely sublime.

    Excellent cuisine. Our favourite dishes were the Lobster Tempura and the White Onion soup. The Chablis wine was outstanding.

    Lovely building and polite staff but we waited 2 hours for Sunday roast and it wasn't busy at all. Disappointing because of this.

    The Great Shefford is not only a gathering place for locals, it also welcomes guests from further afield. The staff are friendly and professional and the food is excellent, even on a day when they were short-staffed. The drinks menu is also tantalising. The pub is in a delightful part of the country and is comfortable and tastefully decorated. Definitely worth tracking down.

    Probably my favourite restaurant right now, each time we go the food is exceptional and a gorgeous ambience. It’s worthy of a Michelin star IMHO so all credit to the chef and the owner. The menu is also really good, it’s hard to choose. And a reasonable set lunch for Christmas with log fires. If you go I am sure you won’t be disappointed.

    The food is stunning, definitely a foody’s destination. One small suggestion would be to have a few simplified/lighter lunch options. Overall superb. We’ll be back !

    I cannot praise the attentiveness of the staff or the quality of the food highly enough. We had an exceptional meal of outstanding quality and were looked after by kind and welcoming staff. Special thanks to Jonny who offered us samples of each of the extraordinary ice cream flavours, we loved them all.

    Overall the food was of good quality and cooked well. However, a Sunday lunch costing this much deserves more choice of vegetables. A few skinny bits of broccoli and a floret of cauliflower cheese was stingy to say the least. Although the Yorkshire’s were filled with pickled cabbage (not a choice I would have made). Carrots, sprouts and parsnips would have been lovely! Also we had a long wait between courses - 20/25 minutes - and gel going to the bar to settle our bill was the preferred option just to avoid more waiting. Also male toilets were out of order

    Outstanding restaurant - we rather fell upon it because my mother-in-law lives nearby, so we were delighted by the warm welcome, superb Sunday lunch and exceptional service. The food is as good as you would find in any top London restaurant - definitely Michelin star level. The prices are slightly higher than in your average pub, but worth every penny. Probably one of the best restaurants I've been to in the last ten years. My mother-in-law normally eats like a bird but she finished off her whole plate of roast chicken with all the extras - that in itself is proof of the quality of this establishment. And we sat next to the babbling brook with ducks swimming outside the window.

    The menu is of real interest, with unusual foods at very good prices. We have been twice in the last three weeks. The most recently was for Sunday lunch where the roasts were really good portion sizes and cooked expertly.

    The Sunday roast was good, high quality. My partner had the tagliatelle which was very expensive, over cooked and a tiny portion! Staff were very friendly and attentive until it got busy, we were waiting for over 30 mins for an end of meal of espresso and the bill

    We srrived at 6 pm. We left at 8. Most of that time was spend waiting for our mains and then waiting for our dessert. There was only one other couple who came in after us and got their food earlier then we did. We ordered a burger and tagliatelle and 2 merinque tarts for dessert. Nothing complicated. Very dissapointing. Our table got cleared very quickly, there was enough front of house staff but the kitchen needs help. Reading previous comments on this website this is going on for some time … high time changes were made.

    This is not your usual pub grub. Delicious fine dining in a beautifully refurbished riverside pub. Staff are friendly & knowledgeable, food is top notch - a special mention for the homemade rolls they give you, and the butter with beef dripping in it - it’s like liquid roast beef!!
