The Great Room Restaurant is undoubtedly one of Northern Ireland’s most extraordinary restaurants. Thanks to the remarkable original Victorian interior with its glass cupola, Ireland’s largest chandelier an array of plasterwork detailing, the space is second to none. Needless to say our chefs search tirelessly to bring the finest seasonal ingredients together in eloquent dishes in thoughtfully prepared menus, just one of the reasons The Great Room Restaurant was awarded 2 AA Rosettes. All this is complemented by expert service and a wine list to which all the superlatives apply!

Excellent in every way, the service exceptional. The lunch menu gave a good variety and yet special. Not huge portions -just the correct amount. Wine expensive but a great selection. We had a cocktail before in the bar, was excellent but the most expensive I’ve had!!

One of the best restaurant’s I’ve ever been to. We went for my fiancé’s 30th birthday and it did not disappoint. The food and service was exceptional! Highly recommend!

Staff were very pleasant and helpful, taking time to engage with customers. Food was delicious, especially the bread! As it was a wedding anniversary they produced a surprise cake at the end of the meal which was delightfully tasty and rounded off a perfect evening for us. We dined in the Great Room which is absolutely gorgeous! Would thoroughly recommend the Merchant Hotel for an evening meal. Had the accommodation been less pricey we would loved to have stayed overnight.

Myself and my husband took our son and his girlfriend out for lunch as it was a special occasion. The staff were brilliant, not over attentive...just perfect! We enjoyed the most wonderful 2 course lunch and a little celebration cake was presented to my sons girlfriend...which was much appreciated and the icing on the cake, a really beautiful touch! The food isn't cheap but honestly for a special occasion its more than worth it.....food was absolutely delicious. Loved my experience and can't wait for another special occasion to present itself so I can return!!

Although we enjoed ourselves it's worth noting that lunch finishes as 2.15pm. we booked through Open Table and for some reason that allowed us to book lunch at 3pm. At this time only Afternoon Tea is available.

We were celebrating my Mum's 80th birthday. We enjoyed our afternoon tea very much. The staff couldn't have been more attentive and they were very pleasant. We were kept well topped up with tea and coffee and any left overs were packaged up for us to enjoy at home. The only faults were that the great room was quite dark and there was a smokey smell in the room, I couldn't see an open fire anywhere.

Fabulous food in a perfect setting. Very friendly waiting staff. I had the crab starter and it was beautiful. Fillet steak was melt in the mouth. Dessert fab too. Cant wait to return to this beautiful restaurant.

Expected better from a 5 star hotel. Food was not hot which was very disappointing. It’s a pretty basic thing to serve food hot so it must have been sitting for some time before being brought to the table. The restaurant was soo dark we had to use the torch on our phones to read the menu.

A fabulous lunch was had by all in this beautiful restaurant. Five of us had travelled up from Dublin just to eat here and it was well worth the effort. Everything from the setting to the food and wine to the service was impeccable and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

After a shaky start, when we were asked to be quick to order, it got a lot better when the gentleman said he had spoken in error and no rushed ordering was needed. The food was of the highest order. The service was very good. And we were grateful for the kind gesture of gifting a birthday cake block to my wife. Thank you.

This was a VERY upscale restaurant and we felt a bit out of place and underdressed when we walked in. The staff was very nice, if a bit stuffy and snooty. The food was ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT and they brought out a nice fondant cake for my wife’s birthday celebration. If you are looking for a fine dining experience in Belfast, this is it!
