The Great Escape
Discover a true Chicago gem at The Great Escape. This casual favorite features some of the city's finest steaks, seafood, chops and more in a setting that captures the Windy City's unique history. The Great Escape hails back to 1889; the Bar and Banquet room are part of the original structure. The bar itself was hand-carved by the venerated Chicago Bar Company.
No stranger to colorful characters, The Great Escape was once frequented by one of Chicago's most notorious icons, bootlegger and gangster Al Capone. Today, the restaurant is a family favorite, featuring hearty fare, with an onsite banquet hall and catering. The facility is uniquely green, with a 108kW wind turbine on the property that generates over 100 percent of the restaurant's power supply, ensuring that future generations can continue to experience its warmth, hospitality and delicious creations.
Service and food are the best.
I prefer to eat at local family owned it restaurants as opposed to chains and this restaurant did not disappoint . I chose it based on proximity to our hotel and couldn't be happier. Staff was very friendly, service was impeccable and the food was delicious. The waitress took time to share a bit of history and stories about the restaurant.
Disappointing. We go there all the time and we brag about this restaurant all the time. This time the restaurant was way, way over crowded. You couldn’t move without banging into one another. They ran out of clam chowder soup at 6:30 and the food was disappointing. Will go there again but never a Saturday
it was very cold at the table we where sitting at steady breeze blowing on us from ceiling vent
One of the best ribs and chicken combo, you can't miss at this place. Drinks are large and priced right. Enjoy.
We love the Great Escape. We come in at least once per month good food and great service.
Very cozy place. Sehr guter Fisch.
The daily special fish dish was awful. Three of four in our party ordered it and no one enjoyed it. The Lobster Bisque was barely lukewarm had un-cooked vegetables in it. Very disappointing to say the least.
A good food, good menu of assorted items, bar and friendly service. Highly suggest for a place that has mature people with an interest in eating at a casual restaurant.
I've been here several times and never disappointed. Service is excellent and plenty of food for the value.
Nice neighborhood place. Good food and the people are all genuine. Nice place!
We have been going to The Great Escape for a long time. It really is one of our favorite places to eat.
We went on New Years Eve. Service was still great as usual, food was great as usual.
It was a Christmas dinner with friends and the meal was wonderful the atmosphere was festive the dinner portions were large and the martinis were delicious! Our waitress very friendly Pricing reasonable I can go on ..
Food portion size was small for price on sandwich. Otherwise was good time as usual
Service was great. Food was not hot and was good not great.
The great escape has a diversified menu with reasonable prices. Service is usually good but we found our waitress Diana to be outstanding. First by recognizing we just walked in and were still a bit unsettled and saying let me give you a minute before taking your drink order. Felt recognized as a person. She was prompt and attentive through out the meal. We difinitely will be back
The restaurant is supposed to be known for its baby back ribs, but they were nothing special, without a lot of flavor. The fried pickle chips were amazing, the salad average, and the filet of poor quality. One member of our party had the broasted chicken and said it was delicious. So, a mixed review. The waitress was over-the-top, making comments about what beautiful babies my son and his girlfriend might someday have. Awkward and unprofessional!
I just started coming to the Great Escape for my birthday, and have been there five times since then.
I love the chicken pot pie and my husband thinks the pork chop and BBQ ribs are outstanding. The prices are reasonable and the restaurant reminds me of times when restaurants were restaurants...quiet..friendly service. I recommended this place to a few friends and they have come back several times. There should be more of these in the Northwest area.
We have been there a few times now and the food and service are always very good.
First time here. Food was great and very fairly priced. Great bbq sauce! Staff was extremely nice. Great service. Definitely recommend!!
They always do a great job!
Delicious prime rib and twice baked potato. Very attentive service.
We ordered calamari as our appetizer and were not disappointed. It was cut thicker than we usually get but it was prepared perfectly and very tender. I had the chicken pot pie and was so happy with my choice. It was so awesome for anyone looking for some old fashioned comfort food. My husband had the bass special and said it was just average, nothing special but not bad. The broasted potatoes he ordered were very good. Great neighborhood dining spot. Lots of options on the menu to appeal to everyone.
I have been to The Great Escape many times. The food is always good and the service excellent.
No frills spot. Food was good and the value made sense. It reminded me of an old, family-style steakhouse.
We have been here before and not had a bad experience. This time, we had a reservation but didn’t get seated until 30 minutes after- we had a toddler and a diabetic in our party. No apologies, no rush to seat us. Then we had no server and waiting 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. Again, no apologies. We ordered dinner and then were told they ran out of what we ordered. Could not get any worse. Will not be returning. Very disappointed.
We often come to this restaurant good food nice neighborhood atmosphere definitely will be back
It is a great place to have a good reasonably priced meal. Service has always been outstanding. One of the main reasons we go to the Great Escape they have managed to serve items we thoroughly enjoy especially the stuffed mushrooms. It is definitely a neighborhood gem.
Casual, good service, nice menu selections, great for a quick and tasty bite
Saturday night out.
The building was pretty cool, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The food was lower quality than expected; more like diner food as opposed to a sit-down restaurant.
Great value for both food and drink. My wife had sea bass and I had BBQ pork chops. Both of us were more than satisfied quality and quantity of the meals. Server was very friendly and attentive. A definate "go back to" restaurant.
expected the food to be of higher quality - taste. chicken breast sandwich was bland - noodle dish with shrimp and cheese looked and tasted liked they used velvetta cheese.
Family dining before Rosemont concert. I ordered the chicken pot pie and it was amazing and ordered the french onion soup that was very good too. The rest of my party had the crusted bass and pasta Giamba and shrimp sandwich and cream of chicken soup and the fresh bread. We were very please and will return and when I do I’ll order the chicken pot pie again 👍
Love this place. Good menu and atmosphere. We will definitely be back.
My husband and I invited our next-door neighbors for dinner they ordered the chicken pot pie and they Couldn’t stop saying how delicious it was. I also had it and it really is the best. They will be coming back for sure and so will I. Mu husband loved the combo pork chops and barbecue ribs. Very friendly staff waitress was super nice will make this a regular .
Saturday night out.
Stumbled upon this place after passing by countless times. Silly, silly me. Great food, great cocktails, great service and great value. No wonder it's been a neighborhood staple since 1889. The chicken pot pie, crusted bass, ribs were excellent and a very fair value. Will definitely be back -- many times.
