The Gray Canary
Exquisite food and service. Sweet potatoes soaked in duck fat and grilled...signature dish...
The food is Art. It hits every sense and then some. Flavor, smell, sound, visual, texture. And the drinks, too.
Everything was wonderful! Absolutely loved the food and all the staff recommendations. Everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I have zero complaints and can’t wait to go back.
Food and service were excellent! Parking wasn't bad either and live the tie-in with the distillery.
Great food and service. Pricey but as expected for a trendy place. Loved the open brick and warehouse feel. It was loud, but we booked early to avoid even noisier later times in the evening. Service was intentional, thoughtful, and engaged. Seating in the booth is not very comfortable for a shorter person because the table hits at about neck level. View from the window was of construction, but we chose to see that as encouraging rather than unsightly.
We had the absolute BEST experience at Gray Canary. Every dish we got was phenomenal and our waiter was great! Highly suggest this restaurant and will definitely be back!
Birthday was a blast
We’ve come to expect great things from Andrew|Michael restaurants and this was no exception. The Gray Canary is housed is the same building as Old Dominick’s Distillery. The ambiance is similar to a funky loft and we had a gorgeous view of the bridge from our table.
The service was outstanding - Samuel was knowledgeable about the food, spirits and wine. The food equally as good. We started with oysters and a few small plates. Everything was fresh and each was a unique take on an old standard. We will definitely be back!
Amazing service and food. Great place for a nice date.
The waitress was very nice but the service actually a little too rushed.
The server was knowledgeable, friendly yet professional. The decor is lovely but most importantly the food was outstanding. My red snapper was wonderful.
Too noisy and too cold in the booth near the Windows . Manuell(sp) our server was very good and attentive.
Best in Memphis
My colleagues and I recently took a prospective job candidate to dinner there on a Sunday evening. The complimentary valet parking was a great start to our evening. We sat at the bar for a while and chatted before proceeding to our table. The staff were welcoming and professional without being obtrusive. We ordered several small plate dishes to begin the evening and all were excellent. I particularly enjoyed the grilled oysters. I had the grilled snapper for an entree and it was cooked to perfection. Our waiter was excellent and attentive all evening and made excellent suggestions and paced the small plates and entrees appropriately. My only criticism in the noise level in the dining room. It is very difficult to hear conversations in that setting when full. However, it will not deter me from visiting in the future.
Delicious food. Wonderful service. Host Brock was friendly and welcoming and our server Maggie made sure we had everything we needed.
Fantastic food in a great space that suits everyone - bar and lounge area at the front with an oyster bar, dining room at the back with great views of the river. We sat at the bar and the service was fantastic with great recommendations from the menu. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
Food that hits that special spot of fresh and unique without being abrasive to the palette.
My boyfriend and I ordered the oysters as an appetizer and they were fresh and delicious! We then ordered the scallops, sweet potatoes, and lamb ribs. The lamb ribs were super tender and had an amazing bbq, mint, and cranberry flavor. The scallops were in a broth with a slight spicy flavor and they were sprinkled with awesome crispy shoe string fries. The sweet potatoes were both sweet and savory and easily our favorite dish. Never had sweet potatoes cooked in such an interesting way. And the atmosphere of the restaurant is so chic! Very industrial with great ambiance and an awesome view of the bridge light show.
Great atmosphere. Good food. Excellent service. Lobster was outstanding! Great anniversary dinner!
Great atmosphere and food. There was a large gathering at the Old Dominik that impacted the speed of service but our server was awesome!
Wonderful early dinning experience- noise level increased as day progressed.
Extremely limited menu.
Food quality, prep, and presentation are all well done. Environment is nice but similar to other warehouse renovations. And it is loud.
Prices are high relative to the very small portions.... $3.00 per dinner roll, a lobster tail entree the size of 3 u20 shrimp!
Always eager to check out new dining venues. Had a great evening with friends but not likely to return.
Given the value, not likely to recommend.
Didn’t have many modifications to offer for allergies and vegetarian friendly dishes (cooked in pork fat etc)
Amazing! We will definitely be back
I was in Memphis for 5 days and had the chance to experience Open Tables most recommended restaurants. The Gray Canary was outstanding in every way. The Osso Bucco was the best I have ever had and the service was perfectly timed - not rushing us through our meal. Also, although crowded, there seemed to be a moderate noise level - Maybe because everyone was concentrating on their delicious meal!!!
Wonderful experience. A must for native Memphians and visitors.
Absolutely wonderful food and great help with our various dietary restrictions.
Dined at The Gray Canary 3-23-2019.
Everything was spot on: service, food, wine.
It is an industrial chic setting; hence, high noise level.
Besides that, wonderful.
Cool place; cannot carry on a conversation at all due to overwhelming noise amplified throughout the building; definitely would not return if conversation among our guests is expected;
Beautiful industrial setting, amazing dishes and staff. Highly recommend!!
We thought the food excellent, but would love to see a nice selection of non-local draft beers!!
Food was very heavy loaded with high fat ingredients. Left my wife and I feeling yuck to our stomach.
Smoked fish dip with squid ink crackers that I cannot stop thinking about. Beet appetizer was teeny 3 beets, but lots of flavor. Burger was way undercooked, and took a long time to replace. In meantime, my duck entree ( not hot when it arrived ) got totally cold and was not very tasty. Soft serve ice cream dessert was a good refresher, with fun toppings. Would not race back here.
Nice Restaurant, Ambiance loud, we had a hard time hearing our tables conversations. The oyster appetizer was good however the oysters were very tiny. We ordered several appetizers Tuna, Smoked Fish Dip, Beets, Sweet Potato. All very delicious. The Pork Ossco Bucco was tender and delicious. The Duck was okay. The hamburger was large cooked to perfection however the bottom bun was so soggy couldn't even use it to pick up the hamburger so we ended up just eating the meat and cheese. Nice evening. We will try it again.
We had a wonderful time. Our waiter, Sam, was excellent. We’ll come again and hopefully reserve a booth by the windows to watch the Bridge Lights. The food was excellent. A really fun time.
Love the ambiance. Server was great. Good delicious and nicely portioned. Will go back!!
Exceptional preparation of varied dishes, combinations that seemed unusual but worked well together. Well thought out wines by the glass and good wine list for the cuisine
The food was tremendous! And drinks were oh so yummy!
Grand food, service and atmosphere!
We went to the gray canary for a birthday celebration. The waitress told us to order the raw bar, small plates and entree at the same time and they would course it out. The oysters, parker house rolls, and country ham appetizers were very good. However after them there was a 30 min wait to get our next course of shaved Brussels sprouts, and broccoli both of which had mixed reviews. Finally we received our entrees and my osso buco, and the beans below it were so dry I could not eat it. The snapper got a good review and the duck was “alright”.
