Love having Crystal as our server! Always fun sitting by the windows too. Another great evening at Gray Canary
Went here for a birthday celebration and we were delighted with the service and the food quality we received.
Seriously? I have been a vegetarian for 26 years. Never have I had a server say, "Oh! We have a vegetarian menu! Let me get it!" to return with the SAME menu everyone else has with a marker line drawn through the meat dishes. As if I don't know what items are non-vegetarian. To make it even funnier, under the four main entree choices was a handwritten "vegetarian entree". When asked what that was that evening, the response was "the chef just assembles what he wants" (translation: takes all of the veggies already on the menu and plops them on a plate). Don't say you have a vegetarian menu when you don't! (side note: Chorizo is a meat product, so draw a line through that dish, too).
Food we had was good. Beets and okra were excellent. Meat eaters enjoyed the two beef dishes. Turnips were a miss as half were hard and half were soft. Flavors were on point and sauces were all excellent.
What I could have used help with was the bar menu. Now that needs a dictionary. We closed our eyes and pointed and were happy with what we were served.
Service was speedy and responsive when we said we were headed to a show.
I would go back. It was a fun spot. And it does have vegetarian dishes. Just don't expect to be underwhelmed by the Vegetarian Menu!
As the server said, too much “salinity.” Pretentious and over priced.
There craft cocktails alone would bring me back over and over. Incredible service thought the restaurant.
I liked the Sunday Supper theme
One of the best dining experiences we have had in Memphis!
After hearing such great things about the food, it was a disappointment that it didn’t deliver. Our server was wonderful and accommodating. The farro looked and tasted awful and while the oysters were good, they were hardly a value at $4.00 each! I wanted to like the octopus but it was tough and lacking flavor. The Parkerhouse rolls were the highlight of the meal.
Our first visit and it went down as the meal of the year we decided. Our server, Gina or Jenna was so much fun and knowledgeable. We also lucked up and it was a night when their wine somm was there. Both were top notch. We started with deliciously crafted cocktails and oyster vodka shooters (G Bones) with their fish dip and house made chips. For dinners we had the octopus paired with the okra and the Spinalis paired with the sweet potato. We shared a blueberry crostini dessert. Sipped a Turley Zin with every delicious bite all night. Our best culinary experience anywhere.
Great food, drinks, service and overall experience.
Food was great, service was fantastic. Nice wine and cocktail selection. Great ambiance, but was a slow night so not much of a vibe going on. Pretty quiet place...that night anyway. Overall I'd certainly recommend to others.
The spinalis was heavenly!
Great dinner and service! We will be back! Can’t be the atmosphere.
Excellent food and atmosphere. We love chefs Andy and Michael and frequently eat at their restaurants. The Gray Canary is a must if you haven’t tried it! The country ham is my husband’s favorite and the farro is amazing.
Our server, Dakota, was awesome!! Food was exceptional.
Incredible dinner. We were helped by many of the staff to make sure we got our seat in time and our food.
Stumbled on Gray Canary and it knocked our socks off. Hard to pick a favorite dish or cocktail. Service was impeccable. Food was delicious - especially the country ham and the rolls. Highly recommend you check this spot out.
Gray Canary was fantastic. The service was excellent, and the food was exactly as described by our waitress. Drinks were great, and we will definitely be back.
This is a neat little restaurant on Front Street near the famous Gus's Fried Chicken and Ol Dominicks Distillery. Neat vibe with a strong group of mixologists making some great cocktails. This is a great place to share tapas style fare that is eclectic and flavorful. Additionally they have a nice selection of seasonal oysters.
We were visiting Memphis from San Francisco, looking for good fresh food with a local twist. And boy did we find it! We ordered a series of small plates for dinner, and everything was delicious. Favorites were the monkfish, the octopus on garbanzos, sweet potatoes with chorizo and pecans, greens with preserved lemon, smoked fish dip with housemade squid ink crackers. That covers everything! Then, luckily we saved room to try the housemade soft serve ice cream with nuts that were soaked in red wine and coated with chocolate. Yum!
I have to also mention the stellar service. Our server was not only attentive and informative, but she also organized the pacing and the order of our dishes perfectly.
If I lived in Memphis, I would be a regular here!
Loved our Experience and Service on our Wedding Anniversary. Incredibly fun night. We loved it and will be back!
Fantastic service. Excellent sommelier great food
Delish! Our server was great and very helpful with the menu and suggestions. Very accommodating to dietary restrictions (pescatarian).
Wonderful! Great service! Great food! Wonderful ambiance!
The service and food were both uneven. All ranged from fine to good. I wouldn't NOT go there again but they'd have to up their game before I made them my first choice.
We had a great first experience trying the gray canary . Our waitress was fantastic and was very knowledgeable about the menu and describing it to us. Loved the fun bar & Hope to get a table with a view next time !
Food was unique and most of it fantastic. Service was exceptional- very informative. I could stand to hear a bit less about Andrew and Michael as part of the food spiel.
The okra dish is inspired. The mushroom dish had WAY too much sauce that overpowered the mushroom.
The cobia was superbly prepared - I could have a full sized entree of that!
The cocktail menu is also fantastic!
We came back the next night with my brother and sister-in-law!
Where is the food? Horrible menu.
Thank you to the team for a great dinner.
Our city is blessed to have a place like this to experience. Thank you.
This was my first time eating at The Gray Canary and it will not be my last. The staff was professional and very courteous. I arrived early and sat at the bar for a drink and the scene was so laid back that I found it easy to chat with my neighbors and the bartenders. When my guest and I were seated the wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly. I would have eaten everything on that menu even though I didn't know what some of it was. The flavor combinations were creative and delicious and I never felt rushed to finish my meal. It is truly a dining experience worthy of the price.
First time and delicious with excellent service all the way around
Food is awesome! Service top-notch! Didn't do anything special for the birthday noted on my reservation, which surprised me, but we'll be back!
Andrew and Michael have another hit.
The food was amazing. Outstanding flavors and intriguing dishes. Simply remarkable. Great downtown location.
Different from their other restaurants but with the same high quality type of ambience.
Had a really great dining experience at The Gray Canary. The food was tasty and different. All the wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely return for another great experience.
Dakota is an excellent waiter and really explained the whole menu and what the restaurant was about. The atmosphere was great and the hostess and everyone who worked there were very sweet. Will definitely be coming back with more people. Thos place is a gem
The Grey Canary was great. Our meal was excellent - we especially enjoyed the smoked tuna spread and the fish entree. The small plates that we tried were all extremely good and interesting and each a reasonable portion for two to share. My one complaint is that their wine-by-the-glass menu was titled quite expensive, especially the reds and the restaurant itself is quite noisy. But it was really good and we will be back.
The food was delicious and the service was great but the restaurant is very loud and echoey .
Great cocktails, Very good meal. Decent service. The space is awesome. Industrial chic with exposed brick walls. Food is very good and different. The tapas style and the variety is acceptable. We wish there were more protein tapas. After several dishes we still craved some protein and ended up ordering the spinalis which at 5 oz probably should have been on the small plates section. Highlights were the farro and shishito peppers. G bone shooter was a waste, we should have skipped it. Service was good to above average. Overall very good and we will most likely go again.
