About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Good for groups
  • Good for business meals
The Gravel Pit Café-Bar is situated in Drift Inn with mouthwatering views over the east lake to accompany our fantastic menu.

This site was once a large marsh, fed by the River Great Ouse, but in the 1950s gravel extraction created a series of small lakes and pools which survives today. The gravel was mainly used in road and industrial construction, but today the old gravel pits are home to an abundance of wildlife, flora and fauna; a magical place for all of us to enjoy.

Our restaurant is open 7 days a week, from 7am - 11pm, with last food orders at 8:30pm.

Very disappointing. We have stayed at this hotel before and eaten in the restaurant. Staff were very apologetic as they were struggling with a new menu. Very small portions, we had to send 3 burgers back to the kitchen because we asked for them to be plain, everything on the menu very fussy and overpriced. Chips were skinny and not served automatically with the meals. All I n all, very poor value for money and not very tasty. We had booked a meal for 6, 4 of us vegans and not a great choice. Sorry, will not recommend it.

Great new menu, the burgers were delicious and I thoroughly recommend the parmesan & truffle fries. The 3 small plates menu were also delicious, would recommend the prawns, halloumi and chicken wings!

Hi Marissa, Thank you so much for the lovely review! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the new menu—especially the burgers and those parmesan & truffle fries (a team favourite too!). Great choice on the small plates—we’re so glad the prawns, halloumi, and wings hit the mark. We really appreciate the recommendation and look forward to welcoming you back soon for more delicious bites! Best regards, Katie

I believe the restaurant had opened a new menu and way of ordering on the night we ate. There were teething issues with the ordering system - our table number didn't appear on the qr table booking and one of the group didn't have enough 4g signal to access the online menu and ordering system. No guest WiFi available. The staff and food were great. It wouldn't put me off visiting again provided they sort out there It issues.

Dear Hannab, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're truly glad to hear that you enjoyed both the food and the service during your visit — that means a great deal to our team. You’re absolutely right — we had recently launched a new menu and digital ordering system on the night of your visit, and we sincerely appreciate your patience as we worked through those initial technical hiccups. We’re currently addressing the QR code and connectivity issues, and we have two Wi-Fi options for all guests so I do apologise about haven't the issues with this on the night. We’re grateful for your understanding and very much hope to welcome you back again soon under improved circumstances. Warm regards, Restaurant Supervisor Katie

This was our first visit here and our last! Our service was absolutely shocking , we had no service from the staff that were hanging around at the bar doing nothing! It wasn’t even busy in the restaurant . We had to ask for our plates to be removed after eating , we were told they would come back and didn’t . We had to go and ask to order dessert as no one came over . Then when our desserts came out we still had our main plates on the table . SHOCKING. The food was good but the service let this down .

Probably the worst service I’ve had in a long time. They didn’t show us to our table, just pointed. No menus that we had to ask for and no drinks orders at the table. It would have been a nice day to sit outside but the table and chairs weren’t suitable to have food on. It was full of golfers eating brunch but they don’t really cater for anyone else. There are a lot better places to go than eat here.

Dear Dawn, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear about your recent experience with us and that it fell short of your expectations. We strive to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all our guests, and it's clear from your comments that we missed the mark on this occasion. Your points about the seating, service approach, and communication are being taken seriously and will be shared with the team for immediate review and improvement. While we do often welcome groups of golfers, we certainly aim to cater to all our guests equally —and we’re sorry if you felt otherwise during your visit. We genuinely appreciate your honesty, and we hope you might consider giving us another chance in the future. Warm regards, Katie Marvell

Once polished, now pit by name, pit by nature? I booked a table for two at The Gravel Pit Brasserie & Bar on Saturday, 21 June 2025 at 20:15, hoping to relive the great experience I had a year ago. Sadly, the magic had vanished—and not in a whimsical way, but more like “who unplugged the attention to detail?” I ordered a rare steak with chunky chips. The steak was cooked as requested—credit where it’s due. However, the CHUNKY chips were suffering an identity crisis, with a portion of French fries mixed in. A small thing, perhaps, but indicative of quality control taking the evening off. Yes, they’re both potatoes, but if I wanted a lucky dip, I’d have gone to a motorway services. No steak knife was provided, making eating the rare steak feel like a challenge on a budget cooking show. When I asked for mustard, I was handed a pot of sachets—Heinz, Colman’s, the usual suspects. I half expected a pub quiz sheet to go with them. Not a catastrophe, but not exactly brasserie standards either. Then came the lowlights: two separate customers were sick—one inside, one outside. Possibly coincidence, but it’s not the ambience I was hoping for. I came for dinner, not a throwback to student union nightlife. The whole experience felt like the staff were playing “how little can we get away with?”—and sadly, they were winning. What once felt special now just felt… underwhelming. Worryingly, I’m due back soon as part of a group booking. Ironically, it’s a work night out—for the quality assurance team. So if I return, I’ll be there not just as a diner, but as an unpaid auditor—fork in one hand, check sheet in the other. The chips will be under surveillance. Some friendly pointers: keep the chips consistent, include steak knives with steak (crazy idea, I know), and serve mustard like a brasserie, not a motorway forecourt. And please—let’s keep bodily fluids out of the dining experience. Must do better.

We had booked a dinner table for 10 people well in advance, that is four days before arrival. On the night of dinner, about six of us wanted to order steak, which was clearly listed on the menu. Shockingly, we were then told there was no steak available. This could have easily been communicated earlier, especially when we were approached that afternoon to confirm if we were still keeping our dinner reservation. There was no email, no warning, no courtesy but just disappointment.
