The Gravel Pit Brasserie & Bar is situated in The Waterfront Hotel with mouthwatering views over the east lake to accompany our fantastic menu.

This site was once a large marsh, fed by the River Great Ouse, but in the 1950s gravel extraction created a series of small lakes and pools which survives today. The gravel was mainly used in road and industrial construction, but today the old gravel pits are home to an abundance of wildlife, flora and fauna; a magical place for all of us to enjoy.

Our restaurant is open 7 days a week, from 7am - 11pm, with last food orders at 9pm.

We had booked a dinner table for 10 people well in advance, that is four days before arrival. On the night of dinner, about six of us wanted to order steak, which was clearly listed on the menu. Shockingly, we were then told there was no steak available. This could have easily been communicated earlier, especially when we were approached that afternoon to confirm if we were still keeping our dinner reservation. There was no email, no warning, no courtesy but just disappointment.

Well we had 4 apologies before we’d even placed our order. Sat down with a luke warm bottle of tap water whether we wanted it or not. The waitress said ‘someone will be over to take your order’. No menus had been presented to us at this point. She then reappeared to take the order only to discover we hadn’t got any menus! Ordered a larger with lime only for it to be served with no lime so she had to take it back to be ‘topped up’. My appletiser was presented in the can … I’ve never ever received it like this. Hubby ordered the steak only for it to arrive with no sauce on the side. Admittedly, neither of us had realised there was no sauce albeit I did mention to him it looked ‘well done’ when he’d ordered ‘medium’ and should there have been a sauce? Given the waitress had taken the menus away we couldn’t clarify this until perusing for a dessert. My fish & chips was served with the fish upside down so you saw the skin of the fish through the batter. Again, never have I had this served this way. No attention to detail nor service. Won’t be returning!

Lovely setting by lake however large groups of rowdy drunk golfers spoilt the occasion. The food was very average - it all sounded much nicer on the menu compared to what was actually presented

Food was ok, and in fairness steak was well cooked. Everything else was just ok. Service was sweet - music was so loud though that it meant we had to speak louder to get over it. But for the price- just not worth it at all. 20 quid pizza and 25 quid steaks these were absolutely not.

You must feel proud of yourself for such great food. You've done a wonderful job. Perfectly balanced flavors, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. The best birthday meal I've had in all my years 🤗🙌🏾
