Lovely lunch in very relaxing surroundings. Well worth the short drive from the centre of the village. Log fire, great food, friendly welcome.
This is a very comfortable gastro pub that was not too busy. Staff as usual were friendly and the service efficient. Food excellent. As soon as this lockdown nonsense has finished we will be back.
Service was friendly and professional, felt safe eating here with covid protection guideline procedures in place and being followed by staff and other diners.
Managed to grab lunch just before the 2nd lockdown. Food looked amazing and tasted delicious, to put it bluntly, exceeding my expectations based on past visits. With the venue largely empty, staff seemed focused on sitting groups close to each other, which was odd given circumstances, but other than that it was a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable meal.
Fabulous food and really polite staff. Had to prompt them for the starter and drinks, but they were busy. Overall really great experience. ‘Boo’ to lockdown again!
It took ages to get our meal after ordering (45 mins) even although there were very few people there before us. The pie was ok but the batter on the fish was thick and rubbery so I scraped it all off. We wont be going back anytime soon.

Lovely relaxed venue for Mum and daughter lunch. The Hush Heath wine (Bacchus) was a treat.
1. Date 2/10/20 Covid restrictions are in place. We were surprised that given there were so many empty tables during our lunch from 1pm to 3.20pm that we were seated to close to other people.
The diners in front and behind us were less than 1 metre away.
2. We are all fish lovers and were disappointed that the sea bass on the menu was not available. This should have been crossed off, or at least pointed out to us by the waiter. He was very unapologetic and uninformative in general. We do not eat battered fish which was available.
3. The scollops for starters were good, but we had to ask for bread twice while our scollops were getting cold.
My second choice was the roast veg and … pearl barley salad. So disappointing. Not enough or variety of roast veg. the carrots tasted ok but the turnip I think was just fried and was cold and uncooked in the middle. This was on top of a huge mound of tasteless pearl barley sprinkled with a few pomegranate seeds. The waitress did ask if everything was ok but not until we had all finished – I pointed out the mound of pearl barley still on my plate and she said she would pass my comments onto the chef.
4. This meal was to celebrate my husbands 75th birthday, and so that his sister could join us and I chose The Goudhurst Inn because it is half way between where we each live. I did not like to spoil this special event by making a fuss, but we all felt the food did not meet with our expectations of this happy occasion. Saving grace was the very tasty chocolate desert. 5. The service to was slow and not very efficient – the place wasn’t over crowded or too busy, we had 2 staff sort of serving us and yet we asked several times for things, it really was under par.
6. The last and only other meal my husband and I have had out since the beginning of covid was for our wedding anniversary – fortunately I chose somewhere on a friends recommendation and we were not disappointed.
Great venue, Sunday roast was v.good. Only down side was the roast potatoes which tasted like they’d been sat there heated for a while. Didn’t impact the rest of it though - the beef was lovely as was the rest of it.
Food was really lovely, but took an hour from ordering food to getting our meals, they were very busy in the restaurant and every table very close together, so no social distancing, which we were surprised about. I wish I had asked to be moved as the family next to us were coughing and located a metre from us. Service good apart from really slow and enjoyed the food. Was our first time there.
Very surprised to find none of the staff were wearing any PPE, they also gave us normal salt shakers & vinegar bottles instead of sachets.
I ordered baked camembert to start which was nice but 3 small bits of bread that didn’t mop up half the cheese so ended up eating most of it with my fork.
Had fish & chips which was lovely and crispy but I made the mistake that it came with mushy peas which I hate but that was my fault for not reading properly.
The staff were nice maybe a bit quiet not much interaction.

Food average and service non existent. Due to the Covid you have to order your food and drinks at the bar. Yet all other restaurants we have been to are able to take your order at the table! No screen above the bae so really don’t see how it makes any difference. The restaurant was empty and yet the young waitress and manager had plenty of time to laugh and joke but couldn’t provide table service. The tables in the restaurant need a good scrub down. Bits of food, dirt and even a toothpick stuck in the wooden grooves. We used to be frequent customers at the Goudhurst Inn but unless it gets new management or a complete overhaul we won’t be returning. Such a shame as a lovely venue but everything else let’s it down.
Enjoyed eating on a Saturday evening at the Goudhurst Inn after a gap of six months. The food was good, consisting of some essentially pub-food options on the main menu and some much better and more ambitious specials. Oddly the staff were not drawing attention to the latter, and only by chance did we spot the board. We felt that ordering and paying for all food at the bar goes against the spirit of the covid safe measures too.

There were 3 of us dining at lunchtime and we had different experiences as far as the food was concerned. I had the fish and chips which was disappointing as the batter was quite undercooked and soggy and also a slightly odd yellow colour. The others in my party enjoyed their choices. Overall I thought the menu was a bit uninspired but I don't know whether this is due to CV19 limitations. We have been before in the evening and the menu is much more interesting.
The other thing that bothered me about the whole experience was that we had to go up to the bar each time we wanted to order our food/drinks so it meant that customers were constantly on the move around the pub, not very CV19 secure in my opinion. I have been to other establishments locally and further afield and they have all had ongoing waiting staff service throughout the meal so the only time you need to move is to go to the toilet facilities.
Very expensive for a very unremarkable meal. Ale way too cold, wine overpriced and the risotto disappointing.
Too much sauce in the burger. Had to be sent back to the kitchen twice. Staff were not easily available, felt understaffed. Dining room was quite overcrowded considering social distancing measures.

The Goudhurst Inn has an excellent menu with a wide variety of food to suit all tastes. The staff are helpful and friendly and social distancing is easily achieved. A really safe place to eat with tables inside or out.
Prices are average and the specials are really special.
Supporting the Goudhurst Inn as always enjoy meals there. The menu was short but quite varied, the vegetable curry slightly watery but tasty. The Gypsy tart was a very small portion for the price. Overall ok and will return, hoping for slightly better value next time but understanding the issues these businesses face.
Very organised, limited patrons due to COVID which affected the atmosphere but good food and reasonably price. Great selection of Hush Heath wines. Would visit again.
Limited choice menu. I'm allergic to fish and they had no pie leaving few choices. Starter (soup) was lukewarm and toasted bread very dry as no butter served with it. Music was a bit loud preventing conversation.

We were very impressed with the food and service we received. The pub also has an app so you can order food/drinks straight to your table. A lovely evening spent here- try the speciality wines, we were very impressed!
We visit here often as it is very local to us and one of our favourites. However on this occasion we visited to make use of the Eat Out To Help Out offer, but were very disappointed to not be able to use it. I was told to take a seat and order my food via the app, which I did. On paying, I was not given the 50% discount - when I queried this I was told that Eat Out To Help Out was not available through the app, so was very confused why I had been told to use this on three separate occasions that visit. I asked if I could be refunded and pay at the bar but was told no. Given that the offer is standard Mon-Weds, and no voucher is needed - I feel that this should be given to diners regardless, or at least informed before ordering that you need to order at the bar to be eligible for this. At no point was this mentioned. Very disappointed on this occasion unfortunately.
Good outdoor space with new app ordering to minimise contact. Nice food and relaxed atmosphere. Would recommend for families and relaxing drinks. Good portion size.
Very average, food was a bit overpriced for quality and presentation e.g. Caesar salad. Very limited menu. Quite big so good for social distancing. Glass wasn’t clean - had a lipstick mark on. Disappointed not to see staff wearing masks.
The available menu bore little relation to the more appetising one advertised when booking (e.g. Whitstable mussels, partridge). The booking was thus procured on the basis of misleading representations. Instead, the food on offer was just bog-standard dreary pub-grub fare such as burgers, pizzas, Caesar salads and the like, and not the 'gastropub' fare touted on OpenTable. The ordering process was needlessly laborious. While an online menu was fair enough on Covid grounds, it was tiresome to have to download an app, order via the app and then pay for the whole meal in advance online. Presumably, any additional orders/drinks would require the whole rigmarole afresh. Only after having ordered AND paid for a main course in this fashion did a surly and unapologetic (East European) waitress materialise to tell me it was unavailable, requiring an improvised 'credit' by way of a second drink. A decent starter (prawn cocktail) was followed by a disgusting main: an overcooked and ruined piece of plaice, swimming in excess butter and served with 'roast' new potatoes which were burned on the outside and undercooked on the inside. Polite and courteous attention from another waitress called Erin was worthy of mention. Otherwise a forgettable experience and a wasted journey.

The staff didn't wear any face coverings at all (to protect other people, obviously including customers!), nor did they wear gloves. (At all other places we've been to during Covid the staff have been excellent and friendly, there has been table service, they have worn face coverings and/or gloves.) It's as though the Goudhurst Inn has taken only the minimum possible safety measures it can under current Covid legislation. We will not be going there again.

Waiting time was long, over an hour, but you have to appreciate its operating in a COVID era and social distancing in kitchens etc is not easy. The food was lovely, and the service still attentive. It wasn’t cheap, but then again assumed they might have popped the prices up a little (appreciate they need to make a margin). We’d love to return when the “new normal” is established and they have the most optimal way of working in place.
Very nice restaurant plus outdoor area. Food was very good. Only one Real Ale available currently though. Prices were reasonable for a gastropub type place. Having to use a phone App for all ordering isn't great, talking to a waiter would be far easier!
