First time checking this place out and we loved it. The ambiance was top notch, the food delicious - we all LOVED our meals, and the service was great (thanks, Christopher!). They went above and beyond to accommodate & make me feel special by whipping up delicious mocktails for this pregnant girl. It was so appreciated. Can’t wait to go back!
I went to the George last night with two girlfriends. It is unassuming from the outside and then like a little jewelry box inside. The decor and lighting is so nice, with very comfortable chairs at the table we were at. We started off with drinks, the Lady Liberty was the right mix of strawberry and vodka. We had the mozzarella cakes, which were light and fresh and the red sauce was delicious! We also had the grilled romaine salad which was a great combo of smoky from the grill, salty from the capers and bacon and sweet from the balsamic vinaigrette. We also split a grilled chicken pizza and the flatbread crust was very tasty, the chicken was perfectly cooked and toppings of cheese and bbq sauce were generous. We also shared the short rib sandwich, which was so tender and came on a brioche roll. We ended the night with carrot cake and chocolate peanut butter cake, both of which were good, but we had been hoping for a warm dessert, like bread pudding of molten cake. Our waiter Daniel was great! He was friendly and attentive, but not in an overbearing way. The owner Alex stopped by to check on our experience as well. We will for sure be heading to The George again for their fabulous food and ambiance.
Going to the George Restaurant was a wonderful experience. The place is beautiful. The food was so very good and the service was very right on. Poor Kevin was working so hard because it was so busy. But still he was there for us. As far as Ales playing piano it was so relaxing. I I highly recommend this restaurant. I though the parking on a Thursday would be crazy but it was so easy to find a parking space. Make sure you try this restaurant you will not be disappointed.
Waited 20 minutes to get our drinks and over an hour for our food for brunch. There was only 4 other tables in there with us so it wasn’t busy. On top of food taking forever they messed up my tables order. 94 degree weather and it wasn’t cold outside I was actually sweating. To top it off the piano player was singing so loud I couldn’t hear the person next to me talk.
Excellent brunch. Loved the live piano music. Alex, the owner, was great to meet. Will definitely be back for a dinner and another brunch.
First time with Christopher as our waiter. He was awesome!!! Attentive, funny and responsive. Another great experience at one of our favorite spots
Great place for a fun night out. the singer and jazz pianist upstairs are very good. I liked the veggie pizza. Then we went downstairs to the "speakeasy" where a trio was playing.
Our first time at The George - 5 of us had a great time - valet parking, live music, attentive and friendly service - the Food was very good - only issue was the special jumbo cocktail shrimp were the size described but could have been fresher and no sauce on our calamari but they were cooked very well. The dinner portions were large and cakes for dessert were a hit - wish they had cappuccino
Definitely will go again
The George is the best in all areas of evaluation!
We've been many times but first time for "Monday Funday". Four people in our party, every meal fantastic. Highly recommend.
We got a high top at the bar for my friends birthday and everything was wonderful, from the food, to the drinks, the service! Fantastic! Everything was wonderful!
What a great night! The George is delightful, charming and fun. Four of us, all over 55, had a delicious dinner in the dining room. Drink service was slow but delicious food and drinks made up for that. There was a party nearby who were very loud (not the restaurant's fault), so perhaps carpet or noise absorbing paneling would help. After dinner we sat in the bar and listened to a crooner sing to recordings - I would have preferred a piano player but we thoroughly enjoyed him. Then we checked out the speakeasy downstairs. Very cool spot with sofas, live music and separate bar. We will definitely be back!
Enjoyed the food and ambiance. Next time we’ll eat on the bar side. Looking forward to seeing the speakeasy.
Alex always welcomes us with open arms we really enjoy the ambiance and I am becoming a regular love it there!
Great setting, wonderful food! Will definitely be back.
Excellent, excellent aaaaaand excellent.. go here!!
Once again, The George delivered. Bartender and floor leader Kevin Sheehan was amazing, mixing us fabulous drinks, while the presence of owner Alex Tomasso (whom we didn't see on this particular evening. Was he playing piano in the basement?) was impossible to ignore. The decor, the food, and the ambience were all great. I had one of the best Bolognese sauces ever and my date enjoyed the excellent scallops. A fabulous place, with a uniquely Providence feel about it. Everyone is welcome here. Don't miss it!
We chose The George because we were celebrating our anniversary and a Google search of “restaurants with piano music in Rhode Island” led us there. The restaurant’s web site said that they have piano music on Thursday nights. My wife called and asked the manager if that would be true of this Thursday night. He assured her of it. When we arrived and were seated we noticed that there was not a piano to be seen. We asked the hostess about this and she told us that it was in the adjacent bar but we couldn’t be seated there because it was booked for a private party. She assured us, however, that we would be able to hear the piano music from the main restaurant where we were seated.
There was loud music with a beat we could feel in our bones emanating from yet another party in the basement. When we asked the hostess about this she said it was just recordings and would be turned off when the piano music begins.
The piano music began at 7. We could tell because every so often we could make out the tinkle of the piano between beats of the basement rock music, which continued throughout the evening. Even during lulls in the rock music the poor acoustics and loud conversation in the room and the adjacent bar precluded our hearing the pianist.
The food was Ok. Large portions. But we will always remember our 56th wedding anniversary for the piano music that wasn’t!
Awesome food - the cauliflower was delicious .
Great experience! Quiet brunch on a Sunday morning with such a friendly server. The manager came over to introduce himself and asked how our meal was going, which was a lovely gesture. Halfway through our meal, someone started playing the piano and it created such a fun vibe for the morning. Can’t wait to be back for another meal!
We have been-several times, always a wonderful experience . My husband-and i had the Stuffed Mushrooms and the Thai Calamari for appetizers.... both exceptional! For our entrees he had the Stuffed Veal Chop with a side of rabbi and I had the Scallops with roasted potatoes, n fresh green beans..... both off the chart !! Kudos to the chef . We have been several times and bring different friends so they can experience it for themselves... on our last visit we went to the lower level for cocktails and entertainment.....Wow , thoroughly enjoyed it . Alex is always so friendly and the way he works the room making sure guests are feeling welcome is very impressive. Cant wait to come back
A surprise. One of the best restaurants in Rhode Island. Exceptional good, amply portioned and unique. Great drink list. Very good service. Owner stopped by twice to make sure we were being attended to, and getting good service. Piano bar on one side, gorgeous and lush restaurant on the other, fun lounge down below.
Everything was amazing!! Thank you so much!
Looking at it online it looked like a down to earth bar with a theme. Was a Lot more upscale once you get there leading to us feeling slightly under dressed. Wait staff rushed us and generally did not make us feel welcome.
Excellent atmosphere, service and food!
Food, drinks and service were excellent! Highly recommend.
Nice intimate bar area. Live piano music on Tuesday provided by Kofi B. was very nice. Food wasn't bad overall. Good experience for our second time going to The George.
We arrived 10 minutes early and the restaurant was very quiet with only 2 other people seated. Alex, the owner brought us to our seats and Nick, our waiter came over with water. The rest of the evening went just as smoothly! Nick was attentive at all times, the food was excellent and even though they did not have what I ordered, the chef made me something that was great, a veggie pasta dish. The Monday Funday special (veal parm and stuffed shrimp) was excellent, buffalo cauliflower yummy, meat lover's pizza did not disappoint, and the George burger was fabulous! We enjoyed everything and as we left we learned that they had someone call out sick, but I have to tell you, you would never have known! When we left at 8:00, the place was busy with not a seat to be had. Great place and can't wait to go again!
We spent Mothers Day brunch here and it was truly a pleasure and we cannot wait to go back!
I had eaten here when it was Local 121 , my husband and I had our first date there and we did eat again ,right before they closed .snd loved the restaurant . I am a little disappointed. Service was not great our server was not very attentive and honestly didn’t seem to happy ,but other servers were friendly so I think we just had a bad waiter .
Food was not very good ,I had a breakfast quesadilla and it was over loaded with peppers ,not sure where the chicken was or the black beans and it had zero eggs in it . Did not have all the the ingredients ,it listed on the menu.
I should of sent it back honestly !!
My son loved his eggs Benedict , at least his meal was good .
I will not be returning to try dinner with my hubby and certainly will not recommend this place to any one !!
This place is my new favorite. The atmosphere is amazing, the decor is eclectic, the food is fantastic. The owner Alex is always there, and checks on you to make sure you are happy with everything. He even played a few tunes on the piano. This is the new standard in dining out downtown. Dont miss it!!
Great food and entertainment !!! Food was very flavorful and unique and entertainment was fantastic !!!
The service was poor, in spite of multiple waiters, maybe new, our waiter never told us about the specials, the table was small, as usually is for just 2 people, but they failed to clear the table, by the end of the dinner, we had every single plate brought up to us. The poor service really killed the experience for us, the food was good and priced very favorably.
Such a wonderful experience! The staff was very pleasant and so professional. Our appetizers and meals were delicious. The dining room was incredibly efficient, and we received everything in a well executed and timely manner.
Celebrating Birthday/Anniversary! Arrived early and owner Mario was able to accommodate us with a nice table at wind in bar area. Appetizer we shared was lobster cocktail..delicious. For dinner we had the surf and turf...excellent and seared scallops with green beans and roasted potato's. It was pricy, but worth it for the experience for a special occasion. We will return.
From the minute you enter The George , it sets the stage for ambiance. The host and servers were top notch. When you order an app, make sure you get the stuffed mushrooms! We ordered the seared scallops which were scrumptious. Even the salted caramel strawberry vanilla cake was delish! The entertainment did not disappoint! Looking forward to my next visit so I can get the short rib; understand they are the best. Great night out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My two adult daughters and I went to the The George for breakfast and had a wonderful experience. The restaurant is smallish, but we felt quite comfortable and not as though people were on top of us. The food was fabulous especially the lobster eggs Benedict that my daughter had. My other daughter had the George Breakfast and I opted for the Cajun Avocado &Egg Toast. We were all happy and satisfied with our foos. Our server was attentive and professional, one of the best we had all weekend! The owner came over to ensure we were happy and well taken care of. The George is a friendly and clean with delicious food. I highly recommend it!
