The Geneva Inn Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We decided to stay at the Geneva Inn and have dinner coming home from family thanksgiving. We had a great evening. The room was very nice, comfortable and had lot of space. We had drinks before dinner and the bar was ok. The Inn is on Lake Geneva and the view is beautiful. At this time of year, we lose the fun at 4:30 so does the view. Besides that it was great.
Dinner was nice. My wife had the trout and it was good. I had short rib in a pastry good, but a little dry. Needs a bit gravy or something to make it a bit less dry. Appetizer, shrimp cocktail was great. Dessert , expresso hazelnut cream puff...fabulous! We had a great stay. Had breakfast and enjoyed the food and the scenery in the morning. We had a great stay at the Geneva Inn!
We have come to the inn for Thanksgiving in past years. When we arrived this year we found out they had switched, this year, to a buffet format. We typically are not buffet people and were disappointed that there was no mention of the change when we made our reservation.
While the service and view were still outstanding, and the food was very good, it was not what we would have chosen for $59 a head if we had known before we were standing at the host station. We'll have to find a new venue for next year.
The view of the lake is gorgeous, but the service at the restaurant is barely above average. You’re paying only for the view and not the quality of the food. The hotel is very old and outdated with below average regarding customer service. Save your money and choose another resort.
Wow! I absolutely loved it here. The ambiance was more than I expected - stunning view of Lake Geneva which can be seen likely from any table in the place. The service was wonderful, from the bar to the table - excellent. The fried goat cheese was outstanding. We had the meat and cheese board which was good, but I would prefer a jam and a mustard to go with the meat, cheese and crackers because it is quite dry without. I had a New York Strip which I ordered medium rare plus and it was cooked to perfection. I also had the truffle fries - amazing. For dessert I had the chocolate covered banana bread which was good, but slightly tough. I could not tell if it was overly cold or a tad overcooked - however, the flavor was delish.
Overall, I loved it and would definitely recommend it for special occasion/fine dining.
Lost us after we were shown our table. Some mix up with the staff. It was slow in there so I’m not sure why 2 people would be overlooked for 10 min. Kudos to the water person who was cheerful and stopped by immediately. For $30 the filet was reasonable. It was cooked perfect and I enjoyed it. No sides are included so that was a put off. How much does a potato cost and what employee time does it take to bake a potato? Are margins that thin in Northern IL? Face it lake Geneva exists for IL clients. My wife had a Caesar salad and sweet potato soup. The salad was absurd. Let’s not get so idiotic that we need to serve a deconstructed salad. 4-5 whole romaine leafs undressed, two croutons, one sardine and some Parmesan. No sign of egg to make a proper Caesar dressing. So she had to cut the lettuce and make the dressing for the chef then pay to eat it. The soup was good. I wasn’t impressed by the food. It’s a nice modern decore low light clean place.
Wrong Salad was served . When we got the salad we ordered it was tastefully presented and good. Steak was fine for me but too rare for my partner.... Medium Rare has all temps included.
Oh well. We were assigned a new server from the bar and she needs more training... but I guess that will happen. The hostess was Johnny on the spot and saw to it that we were well served.
Overall it was a good experience and I would recommend this to a friend -- just for the ambiance and lake view... but go before sunset.
We were very disappointed. The pork belly appetizer could have been so much more, but was plain and tasteless. I ordered my lamb burger medium rare, and it came out well done. It's too bad, since others rated it so well and our server was very nice. So many better choices in Geneva area.
Always our favorite for fine dining, whenever we are in lake Geneva. With all the regular schlockmeister tourist and bar food in town, this place is always a nice change for REAL food, though you will pay for it. Trying the wine tasting challenge is especially fun. Buy any glass of wine at the regular price, and if you can guess what it is off a list of about a dozen wines , you get a bottle of it for free.
All of the food fell a little short of what we had hoped for. The ambience, wine list and service were all outstanding. All food was enjoyable, but nothing was great and each dish had some that kept it from taking that next step. A little more refinement of the flavors of the dishes and we'll be back often
I will start out by saying the view was great and we had a nice time, but...
We made a reservation days in advance for 5 with water view and when we arrived there was not a table available and they put us on the upper level where half of us had our back to the water. They did end up accommodating us in a booth with a view. There serving staff were kind and attentive. The food was decent. I think we're just spoiled being from Chicago with such great food. I would try it again.
4 of us girlfriends get together every 1st weekend in October for a girls weekend and to celebrate one of our friend birthday. This year we chose Lake Geneva, WI and we wanted a restaurant that provided view, good food, elegance but casual dress. When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly staff and were seated promptly and even got our window seat we requested. Our waiter was very attentive, knowledgeable and provided suggestions. We started with appetizers and we got the shrimp and crab cakes which were both amazing!! The shrimp were HUGE and so tender and meaty. Our second course was the Geneva salad. The big lettuce was so tender and soft and so yummy. Our entrees included 6 oz fillets cooked to PERFECTION (medium & medium rare) which melted in your mouth, maple glazed pork chop so tender and the salmon had a crispy skin that was flaky, moist and meaty. We finished our meal by shating 2 blood Orange sorbets and the creme brulee which were unbelievable!!!! But the I have to say...I am craving more of that creme brulee...lol!! Oh and they even stuck a candle in the creme brulee for my friends birthday. Such a nice touch!!
The only disappointment was the asparagus as it was charred and dried out. But honestly we had so much food..it was really no biggie and they removed them from the bill. But all in all it was a fabulous memorable dinner!!!! Thank you for the amazing memorable experience!!!!
The view from the restaurant overlooking Lake Geneva is spectacular. The food was delicious as well. The service, however, was substandard at best. We sat for quite a while before our waitress appeared, in spite of the restaurant being quite empty as we were there early for lunch. When I noticed the table next to us being served drinks, I got up and asked the hostess who had sat us for our waitress. She told me she was coming in quite a rude tone. Even my husband noticed. Although I would return for the view and to try other dishes, I hope the service has improved and the hostess is more professional and friendly.
I was expecting to be wowed and everything was good but not great. I guess I was just being picky but it seemed like everything could have been just a bit better with a little more attention to detail. No sauce for the crab cakes, pork chop was supposed to have a maple bourbon glaze but came with what appeared to be pepper, filet served on a huge plate with just a small dish of sauce on the side. All of the portions were unexpectedly small even by fine dining standards.
My husband and I went to the Geneva Inn for our Anniversary. When we were seated the hostess presented us with a card for our Anniversary. That brought a smile to my face. We appreciated the sentiment. We also received complimentary champagne. The food was delicious. The view was awesome. The staff was friendly. I would definitely recommend this place. Thank you for make our night special
My wife and I planned a 3 day getaway at The Geneva Inn and while we were there we decided to dine at The Geneva Inn Restaurant. We had dined there previously and enjoyed it very much so we thought we would patronize it once again. My wife ordered the salmon and I decided on the trout and both meals were perfectly prepared. I ordered a bottle of Mastroberardino Greco to go enjoy with our meals and it was a very nice Italian white wine. Our server provided adequate service - she wasn't the most attentive server we've had but the service wasn't bad enough for us to not want to go back. All in all we enjoyed our meals very much and we will return the next time we visit Lake Geneva.
