We had a great business working lunch here. The food was good and the service was excellent I would definitely recommend this place.
Food was great. Great brunch spot.
Our server, Ebony, was great! It was our first time and she made great recommendations. We will go again.
Perfect for date night! Intimate, small, and amazing food. Appetizers are sustainable too!
The way the happy hour was explained to my group was terrible. The server actually told us several things in the menu were bad and not to order. We were told we could only have happy hour drinks prepared one way. The server was not sure what food was on happy hour and the menu was not super clear on price. We ended up leaving and not ordering anything at all. Won’t be back.
The good: The General Public (TGP) still has the same inviting atmosphere, the same great service, & is located adjacent to the super-deluxe bowling alley for which they're also known. They've clearly made an effort to keep staff & patrons safe by limiting the number of available tables, etc.
The disappointing: unfortunately, TGP is now offering only a limited menu. Most - if not all - of the menu items that we went there for are no longer available. The ones that are left - while tasty - are carb-intensive. And the one dish that our server described as "not to be missed" (loaded tots) was, 1) Not loaded, & 2) something I wish I'd missed.
These are challenging times with the CCP virus & all, but I don't see why it warrants a limited menu.
TGP set the standard for gastro pubs when they came on the scene a few years ago, & it's the reason we chose to come there for our company get-together. I hope on our next visit they'll have finessed the menu with some of the favorites for which they're known.
OMG it was amazing my friends and I had the best time ever, were evening planning a xmas white elephant brunch!
The food was amazing and the staff so very professional!!
Go with a friend or a great date night@
The server. Wss
Was very relaxing place to hang out with friends. The area we sat at was very cozy and comfortable. Our server was really friendly and attentive. He was open to chatting with me and guests, which I think was nice. The food was great and I love the choices in alcoholic drinks.
The crab hush puppies omg!!!! I’m going back just for those! We tried the Brussel sprouts, fish and chips and the grilled cheese! All heaven!
As someone who works in the restaurant industry. I find it absolutely annoying that companies want to force the QR code reader instead of a menu. Everyone doesn't have a QR reader and my grandmother would never ever eat here again due to that fact. The food was delicious, our server was amazing and offered me a Rum Punch that should be on the menu. Lloyd was very personal, professional, and extremely helpful. The staff did everything to help with C19.
Great spot for work lunch!
We loved the atmosphere! The food was good. The Happy Hour was good but limited! The drinks were a little high but expected in that part of Houston. I recommend! My only complaint is City Centre parking - it can be complicated.
Nice meal. Good Service. Relaxing Atmosphere. I will go back.
This was by far the best dining experiences I’ve had. The service was stellar & could only be beat by the taste of the food. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
100% trash!!!!! I’ve had better food service at gas station.
5 min to see a server, no apology
An additional 10 min to get water, no apology
Saw her walking about and talk to other customers and servers.
My wife and got up to leave and she said “ok”
Be avoid this place
The packets pace is nice I like the big windows they day I was there the weather was cool and the windows were open it felt great, the only thing I didn’t like was that it seemed short staffed there was only one waitress for the entire dinning room and bar
It took a little while for her to came back with our orders specially the drinks. Over all. Enjoyed the food and drinks -would definitely consider returning and trying out other menu items
Their where only four brunch items to choose from...so the selection was not that big at all...
We had a very lovely time. Great ambiance and great food! Wait staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs.
Not the fist time at the General Public. This time, service was slow and food was so-so. Menu is very limited. Good for drinks and grab a bite, but nothing special to do for dinner, not even lunch. There are a lot of better options around
Two of us. One ordered chili as a main, the other shrimp & grits. Chili came out, and server apologized that the kitchen was behind. My wife’s dish (shrimp & grits) came out no kidding 20 minutes later. Off to a horrible start. Grits were lukewarm at best, shrimp was like rubber, overcooked.
Waiter was aloof and got the manager who we described the meal to. She did great at responding, we got a comp replacement meal (and they comped our entire bill, which was not expected).
Service from the waiter was horrible. Asked three times for refills, no attention to customers. He should never allowed one meal to come out without the other close behind. Where was the expediter? Absent this evening I’m assuming. If you don’t have one, get one.
Manager Major West was incredible. Kudos for his first night leading the pass.
Won’t be returning. First impressions are killers. Far too many new restaurants to try to go back to a place that left this impression.
Super loud here, all hard surfaces. Conversation impossible. Tortilla soup so salty we had to send it back, and we are salt hounds. Inedible. Crab hush puppies are divine but it's not enough to save the meal.
Brussels sprouts hardly cooked at all, nearly raw. Not our expectation. Enchiladas good, chile chicken cheese sandwich good, salads good. Not great on all counts, except the hush puppies. Probably won't return as super loud and food not outstanding.
Had the shrimp and avocado salad. It was just the right size and the salad dressing was delicious!!
The menu selection is not as big as some of the other places, but the dishes we ordered were all uniformly outstanding. Service was good and the noise level is moderate, makes it easier to have a conversation without shouting.
Would have preferred a table vs a booth by the bar. It was extremely noisy from music and the TV’s.
Great experience, our server and bartender was awesome and attended and anticipated our needs.
The food, drinks, and atmosphere were great, but our server was not. She was slow, not friendly at all, and barely checked in on us. This is definitely a one off because all of my servers on previous visits have been great.
Just wasn’t impressed
Excellent all round.
Great ambiance! We really enjoyed our food and the overall experience was wonderful! Service was a little slow at times but it was also NYE so we expected some of that.
Definitely looking forward to going back again!
Seemed really long between order and food Defoe a lunch. We did expand our reset from 8 to 12 so maybe it was our fault. When food came it was deli yams the chef came out to check. We will be back.
Some have listed as a good place for a business meal. Drinks with colleagues- sure, great option. Actual business dinner- no way! Too loud and too “bar”. Would go back for a casual dinner.
Only 2 other tables occupied at 6 pm on Sunday. Service was abysmal. In order to get a 2nd cocktail, I had to go to the bar myself, it took just under 45 minutes to get our dinner order, and when it arrived, 75% of it was cold to lukewarm. Will never go back.
Went on a Tuesday evening. Restaurant wasn't very crowded, had open tables and booths and from the time we set down it took us 25 minutes to get our drinks. Our food took another 40 minutes and then only 2 of the 4 entree's came out. The other 2 entrée's came out about 5 minutes later. The food was o.k. This was the second time I have been to the restaurant and the service and quality of food has definitely gone down. I will not be going back. Very disappointed. Staff was friendly but very slow, not sure if that was due to understaffing as I saw a handful of waiters etc. I watched the tables around us and they had same service delays.
The food was okay, best thing was probably the tater tot appetizer that we ordered on a whim. Drinks were good. Food took forever to come out.
Took 20 minutes to get water
We always enjoy the food and drinks here. Erin and Mike are awesome!! Sad to see the old Happy Hour changing!!!!! Looking forward to what the new HH will be. Thanks Erin for your wonderful service ALL the time!! and Mike is great waiter as well!!!! Q&L
We had a great time with friends on a Saturday night. Parking is a pain, but that's City Centre in general. The tuna nachos appetizer was fantastic, as was the rest of the meal. We will be back.
Customer service was good, staff was attentive, and food and drinks were good.
Nice place for drinks and a casual meal with adult friends.
