A favorite with many of the residents, this deli serves guests in simple but comfortable settings. The General Muir is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner all week, with a special brunch menu served over the weekends.

What a delight! I enjoyed the food, service and the overall vibe here. I'd like to come back to try more on the menu.
The stacked burger was delicious. All four people in our party had this entree and everyone agreed on the taste. The wait staff was attentive but not intrusive.
This was my second trip to the General Muir. My wife used to work at Corky & Lenny's in Cleveland Ohio and we have been hoping for a place like the General for a long time. We had the Reuben this time and it was great, but I think I'll have a straight Corned Beef or Pastrami next time as I previously enjoyed because I want to enjoy the taste without the other flavors. We have had the Matsa Ball soup and it is also great. This time I tried the Poutine and it was fabulous, fries, gravy, cheese curds, and Pastrami pieces. We had no room for the Cheesecake afterwards this time, but it is authentic NY cheesecake and is delicious. Service both times was excellent, and I loved the ambiance with good classic vocalists, not too loud, but loud enough to appreciate. If we ever catch an owner their we are both going to give them a big hug and thank them for bringing this gem to Atlanta!
Food and table service are always great here. A long time favorite since they opened.
I was not about to miss out eating at The General Muir when I found myself in Atlanta. Although difficult to get to (in the dark in an unfamiliar neighborhood and rental car), the General more than made up for it. To start with, they called me to suggest I come earlier than my pre-arranged 9 PM reservations, as the menu would change then, and I would only have a choice of sandwiches. The Chicken on Friday night was unlike any other I've had, with a remarkable "crusty shell" to it. The star of the meal was the Poutine, that was served with their pastrami bits. Service was friendly, helpful, and merely added to a great meal.
Taste and flavors are superb. Ample portions served. Having a conversation can be challenging unless you're in a booth, as the room is open and has hard surfaces. I have not tried eating outside. But the yummy dishes keep me coming back. If you're vegetarian there's not a lot to select from. Brunch is very popular.
Love the Sunday Night Spaghetti Dinner. The best and most tender meatballs .
Very pleasant. Atmosphere was very relaxing and comfortable. Plan to sit on the patio next visit when the weather is cooler.
My husband and I had a wonderful dinner here while visiting Atlanta. The atmosphere I would describe as hip diner, it’s very cool and inviting. We had an attentive staff that took great care of us but didn’t hover and the food was just amazing! I had the best corned beef sandwich that I’ve ever tasted! They bake the bread in house and cure the meats too, it was divine! We saved room to share a slice of chocolate cake and boy am I glad we did! It was excellent! I’m a baker and very particular about desserts, they’re usually not as good as what I would make at home. This however was the exception. If you live in Atlanta, you’re super lucky to be able to enjoy this place frequently!
We had FANTASTIC SERVICE from our waitress! Her depth of knowledge was truly amazing!
It was our first visit to General Muir. Everything was great but we specially went to try your Friday night special, fried chicken. Sadly the fried chicken was very disappointing. It was dry and flavorless. The sirloin, however, was top notch!
Phenomenal
Love this place... it's a small dinner menu but awesome! POUTINE!
Spaghetti dinner was awesome. The Reuben sandwich is to die for.
We’ve been three times. Never had a bad meal or bad service.
Best Reuben I’ve ever had with a huge delicious homemade pickle
First time here. Had the deviled eggs/pickled veggies first and the a Reuben with pastrami, which was excellent!! My wife had the burger, which also very tasty.
We had excellent cocktails to start as well. I had the Escamillo cocktail made with tequila, mezcal, aperol, lime and honey! Highly recommend it.
The Roasted chicken entree was delicious!
The sandwich was very tasty.
Long-standing Babette’s still wonderful.
Our waiter (Josh) was very attentive and suggested some really great food for us to order as well as drinks. We loved every thing we ordered and will definitely go again. Our 5 year old daughter enjoyed her grilled cheese and we had a wonderful evening!
It has been several years since I've dined at The General Muir. We joined them for their Sunday Spaghetti Supper night. The portion was great and the food was very tasty. Our server was excellent and attentive. I cannot wait to join them again in the near future for the Sunday Spaghetti Supper!
The patio left a bit to be desired, so we asked for a table inside and were not disappointed. The interior is sharp and bustling. The menu is very limited, but what we had was very good, from drinks, to starters, to pastrami Rueben.
Fried chicken was very dry. And 1/2 chicken? I suppose if you’re buying airline chicken.
Matzo ball soup was good but this is NOT a traditional Jewish restaurant. At best it’s a light nod — and I do mean light — to Jewish cuisine. If you’re going for that, prepare to be disappointed.
Table of 4 of us. Everyone happy. Chopped liver as better than grandmas. Matzo ball soup was great. Burger was five star. Corn beef sandwich was good.
Service was excellent.
We had a quick meal of the fabulous fried chicken. Our server was very accommodating, and it was nice to have an early dinner before it got busy.
My husband and I dined at the General Muir on Saturday, June 22nd. We received excellent customer service from our server, Kevin, and the staff working with him. They were friendly, helpful, and attentive. We liked the attractive décor, the music, and we really enjoyed the delicious food: pastrami on really fresh rye bread, a cucumber side salad, a tasty, lean corned beef sandwich, a little gem salad (although there was nothing little about the size of this salad), and the seasonal cake, a sponge cake with raspberry and peach filling.
All in all, this was a most enjoyable and relaxing dining experiences. Highly recommend The General Muir.
We have enjoyed every visit here. A bit on the pricey side and a unique menu, but quality of food and service is excellent.
Dinner was OK — great service, tasty food. I
This was an excellent meal and my wife and I both said wow after we finished. I had waited years to try this so I splurged and got the 14 oz. pastrami sandwich. This is not your cold deli style paper thin sliced meat. I have smoked meats for 25 years and never been able to match the flavor and tenderness of this meat. I could have said it all in one word-wow.
At first you may think the menu is too small, but why try to conquer everything when you do a few things so well. Food is just plain good. Period. Laid back with an old school vibe and not pretentious. The smells coming from the on site bakery don’t hurt either. Excellent casual date spot!
I don't know how I've missed this place. I often stay quite near when I visit Atlanta. General Muir fit the bill perfectly for a friend who wanted NY-style Deli food. No, you are not going to get an over-stuffed Katz' sandwich, but you will get something that tastes pretty great at a very reasonable price. Big plus for the homemade pickled veggies. They were great - crisp, tart beets were my fave. Drinks were creative and tasty. I'm not a deviled egg fan, but something made me order them - what a good choice! Service was friendly and not pushy. I'll be back next time I'm in Atlanta.
Great service and food. Always a pleasure.
The meatballs served for your Sunday Supper are absolutely the best!
The food is always good here! The hostess stand is a little slow, we may just opt for the bar in the future.
Food was too salty and drink was very stingy. I ordered a Dewars on the rocks and was quite surprised by how little scotch was in the glass. Server was excellent.
I love the General Muir for group dinners on the patio. It's not cheap, but it feels special. I love the seasonal vegetable dishes, when they are in season...
We ordered the Sunday Spaghetti Dinner for the first time. So good! And such a great value as well.
Always good food, always good service. Sunday nights are the best--Spaghetti and meat balls and their stack burgers are excellent.
Best burger in the city. Truly. Give it a try. You won’t be sorry.
