The Gatehouse reopened in March 2016 and is located in the picturesque village of Highgate. Under the watchful eye of our head chef, Chris Payne we focus on quality fresh food with a strong Spanish influence.

We use the best producers and suppliers, have an excellent range of local and continental craft beer, and a wine list that has something for everyone. Join us for lunch or dinner, grab a coffee or just roll in for a few pints! Open 7 days a week.

Friendly, great value venue - perfect for pre-theatre dining before moving upstairs to Theatre at the Gate. Recommended.

First time at The Gatehouse. We loved it. Wonderful atmosphere. Historic feeling setting. Interesting menu. Charming waitress and so patient with all our special requests. She was also very good and checking up on us to see if we needed anything. Would definitely return.

The starter was good, however the main course was really really disappointing. It was a very below average roast dinner, nothing really tasted of anything, there’s was nothing special about it. The beef was nicely cooked but somehow flavourless. It was a tiny bit better than a cheap carvery type roast dinner. The cod and chips were completely bland and again, flavourless. Service was great but probably wouldn’t go back.

Second visit here, the first was brilliant both food and service. Second time ok but was far busier so not as good.. Booked a table for 3 and asked for outside at point of reservation. On arrival we were told they didnt take reservations for outside. Yes there was space for us outside but we couldn’t sit at tables on left as they were reserved! Food very generous and we ordered too much. Main courses were overcooked. Starters great. Good choice of different wines which we loved. Quite pricy but would give it another go. We got boxes FOC to take our unfinished food home which was well received.

We booked a table for Father's Day. The service we received was fantastic, really friendly staff, very efficient and professional. The food was excellent, as was the wine! Quite expensive overall, but worth it as we had a really good time. This is not our first visit and will not be the last!
