Remarkably good food and great but expensive wine list with marginal at best service. Kudos to the chef :)
Great restaurant week find. Loved the fried chicken!
We really liked our appetizers and snacks but the entrees were mediocre (well-cooked but poor flavor combinations) and desserts were not good.
Came here with a group of 4 for a restaurant week lunch special. The restaurant was pretty empty for lunch time on a Friday but we were all the happier as we had attention from the servers, didnt have to have competing conversations and were able to enjoy our meal leisurely without being rushed out. Each plate of food was better than the next and the specialty cocktails are not to be missed. I enjoyed the Golden Boy cocktails almost too much as I could've kept drinking them all day long. For lunch my group enjoyed sharing the Grilled Broccoli, Spaghetti with Uni and the Warm Lentils to start. The warm lentils dish with a poached egg on top made everyone at the table a fan of lentils for the first time ever. For our entrees we enjoyed the Fried Chicken, Salmon (kinda dry) and the Dry Aged 14oz Strip Steak. The desserts were just OK so I would recommend filling up on the appetizers/entrees and going somewhere else for an after dinner treat.
Went for a date, was great all around. Friendly staff and never felt rushed.
Resturant week menu is so generous.
Had lentils, steak and cookies and cream for less then 50 bucks! Great selection. Will return soon
This place is great. I really enjoyed the frose and pork milanese. Great happy hour specials as well!
This was amazing cuisine and staff was very attentive. This was a great lunch, the best fried chicken and salmon I've ever had. The drinks are also on point! I will definitely be back, but glad I picked this for Restaurant Week 2017
A little overpriced for what it is. Not a lot of wines by the glass to choose from and the wines by the bottle are overpriced. Service was beyond slow.
This place used to be our favorite restaurant in NYC but it's far from what it used to be.
Food is still good but the tasting menu was just small portion of what's on the menu and nothing more innovative.
The image and ambiance is a bit weird, really under what it could be.
This place could be an awesome gastronomic restaurant and the chef definitely has the talent for that but it's only a good brasserie type place.
We had the Chef Tasting Menu for my daughter's birthday! It was a great night and fantastic food and fun. My only recommendation is that the hostess was also serving the courses and she knew nothing about the food. I think they were a little short handed. The food was delicious and the broccoli was the best thing I ever ate and will be back!
Came for dinner for restaurant week, left disappointed. RW Menu is deceiving, the waiter informed us that the only choice from the starters section of the menu is cauliflower, not sure why they bothered putting the rest there if they are not part of the deal. In the end you get to to choose 1 plate from both the left and right side of the plates section.
Got the fried chicken, lentil bowl, trout tartare, and pork chop. Food was decent but I wasn't impressed, not really worth the price if you ask me, even for restaurant week . I'm not too hard to impress either... A simple beer was also around 11 dollars, call me cheap but that's a little much.
Service was good enough. Actually got a free plate of broccoli so that was nice. But based on my RW experience I would not go back.
Service was terrible. Food was OK but overpriced given size of portions.
Went with a group for HH drinks and snacks. Drinks were great, staff was friendly, food was tasty. I'm hoping to make it back for their restaurant week menu.
I love going to a restaurant where the people care. The host was so sweet, loved the burger, one of the best I've had in a while. Look forward to returning soon.
I like the Gander and they did go out of their way to accommodate us and make us feel welcome. However, the menu is way smaller - one menu for bar & dining room insyesd of 2 - and it's just not the awesome dining experience I remember. Liked the food and staff but it didn't feel like a Michelin star rated restaurant.
We came here for my friends birthday. We were seated promptly but given no menus and 20 minutes later someone (not our waitress) came by and gave them to us. About ten minutes later our waitress took our drink order then just left when we wanted to order our meals.
When she did come back to take the food order, I was very clear that I was allergic to peppers and asked if the dishes I selected had any. She assured me that they did not.
It took another HALF HOUR to get our appetizers, and I had to flag someone down to ask about them. They came ice cold, it was clear they had been sitting for a while.
Some time later our entrees came out. I took one bite and immediately my throat started to swell. I got the waitress and asked her if there were peppers in my meal and she said no, I told her my throats was swelling and that was my only allergy and to please ask. She again told me no, and when I insisted she begrudgingly went into the back and low and behold, she didn't notify the chef of my allergy and he put chili flakes into the breadcrumbs. She then nonchalantly goes what do you want me to do? Ask them to make it without it? I said yes please, as I'm taking a benedryl. I then wait for my meal to come out and at this point we had been there for 2 hours so we asked for our previously ordered deserts to go, which was annoying because we were there for my friends birthday and wanted to do a candle or something. My friend herself is a waitress and was very upset at the whole evening. The waitress didn't even try and do anything to make the allergy issue any better with our table, and her lack of care for my food allergy is unforgivable.
Food and service was good, enjoyed the meal. Quiet atmosphere at the time I went though there were a decent amount of people.
Fabulous meal, wonderful experience. Made a reservation forgetting that it was restaurant week, place was buzzing and filling up, hospitality still great... was even greeted by the chef at the door. Enjoyed the menu of vast offerings, food was delicious will definitely be back again soon. Don't miss the dry aged strip steak or sea trout tartare.
Came in for my husbands birthday. The Chef came to the table and bought us a glad of bubbly, very kind and unexpected gesture. The Grilled Shrimp with Roasted Corn blew our minds, it was like summer in a bowl. All in all, great atmosphere, great wines by the glass, and unbelievable food. I'll be back again for sure.
The food was served in a pleasing display and they were also quite delicious. However, service was lacking... it was very slow and the waitstaff, while not completely unattentive, were not available when desired. This is a great place to go if you want to kill 90 minutes, and the food is creatively made.
We went to The Gander for restaurant week lunch as a team event. The lunch started out fine, but it became very difficult to get any attention from the servers. We ordered bread, which never came but was on the bill, we had to ask continually for more water and for pepper for salads, etc., and the service was extremely slow. Our lunch took two hours total. We were never asked how our meal was, and were not spoken to as we left. The fried chicken was quite good, but the starters and dessert were lackluster. Three of our party of five felt ill that same evening, which may or may not be due to our meal. I will not be returning.
The fried chicken was amazing. I literally at it in 2 minutes.
Its a shame it was so quite. I really think the food is light years better then other places in the neigborrhood.
Total Suprise . I was not expecting such a refined meal. I eat out often and this dinner was right up there with the best New York has to offer. Brisket tots ? Who thinks of that. Very created chef. Loved the cauliflower, duck and coconut dessert. Will return
We made reservations for 7 PM on Saturday and got dressed up, but main restaurant was not open and we had to take a booth. Drinks were expensive and small and I found the bartender's hair in my drink. Fried chicken was half cooked. Duck was Ok, but a small amount. Waiter was attentive, but overall experience and value were poor. Would not recommend this place to anyone. The place has gone downhill from my last visit a few months ago.
Food was quite good. I came for the burger and it definitely met my expectations. I will return for the burger.
Went here for dinner on a Monday at 7:00pm and they were already out of many dishes on the menu. Not sure why or what happened, but that was a bit disappointing. The food we did have was good, and the place had a great feel and ambiance. Would like to go back to try the things we couldn't try but wanted to.
did nit have bread for french toast little bit diorganized have been there several times before
When I saw what I considered a limited menu, I wasn't sure if I would like this place. But this is where my boyfriend chose to go for his birthday, so I made a reservation. I'm so glad we did because his steak was cooked to perfection and my caesar salad was a big surprise and was a meal in itself. My boyfriend is a chef so if he likes the food, I know it is worth every penny.
Server takes my plate without me finishing, so I paid for 5 shrimps and 3 pretty much went to the garbage. As he takes my plate, he STICKS his finger in there, when I say "hey, I wasn't done", he has the nerve to ask me if I wanted it back. Like really?!?!? Your dirty finger already went into my food.
Paid for "bottomless brunch", he was so slow I had ONE refill and I had to ASK for it! My friend ordered a bloody mary that was in her words "cayenne pepper, tomato juice and ice". She barely took a sip.
Overall, the food was basic at best, drinks were tasteless and the wait staff was horrible. Not even worth going there on a special, let alone paying in full.
Really tasty and friendly staff! Accommodated my large group with no fuss.
The wine list is that of a five star restaurant which this is not. Very very expensive and
few bottles $50 or under. Service was really really slow. Not a great experience.
Meh. This place used to be good. And now it is chaos. You have to wave down a server. They have no idea how to time things. Food was good. The experience was weird
The cheeseburger was exceptionally good!!
Appetizers and entrees were tasty, especially the duck and carnitas. You can skip the desserts. Black sesame pave was ill conceived and flavors did not work together. Service was great and staff was very accommodating and friendly.
My mom once told me.... "if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all."
Cool decor, vibrant bar scene, tasty food - got the ceasar and pork milanese. Friendly staff and nice cocktails too.
Great for Happy Hour, they have good specials including rose on tap which we always get. We had the string beans and broccoli and both were very tasty. Bartenders are very nice and welcoming.
Most enjoyable food and very attentive service. So good to find a restaurant where you can hear the dinner table conversation. We'll be back!
Had the best dinner tonight. Our server was excellent. The menu is super versatile! Options for vegetarians, pescetarians, anyone who wants a burger, or something fancier like the duck (which was fantastic). The vibe was busy but not overwhelming. Good music, nice people!!
