The Gamekeeper Ratings and Reviews
On this particular New Years Eve night, the dinner was pre selected for us and was an 8 course meal starting at 8:30. Presentation was lovely and foods paced so that all was complete by around 11:00. Food was truly fine dining, with caviar, emu, elk steak, duck, lobster bisque, baked Alaska. Chose this restaurant partly because live music was scheduled for NYE festivities. There was no music as we were told the band “ was a no show” due to a recent snow fall. Very disappointing. Parking is scarce and on a steep incline. I felt the house turned restaurant was quite cramped. Travel to coat rack, and bathroom shared same pathway with kitchen staff, and waitstaff, so very congested. $$$$
We had a great meal at The Gamekeeper.....we had been waiting to snag a reservation and we're glad it worked out. Service could have been a tad quicker at times, but the restaurant was very busy and our waitress seemed to have tables in another room, as well.....not a big deal.
We returned to the Gamekeeper one year to the date of the wedding proposal! It was delicious as always. Started with the mixed grill, our favorite. Then we had the axis deer & the bison. Both were wonderfully prepared. Mine had all kinds of root vegetables on the side. Too full for dessert. Our FAVORITE server came by to congratulate us (we were wed 2 weeks ago). Our server this evening was Noah. He was fantastic as well.
There are lots of unique options for the main course. Our family of 5 tried the emu, bison, axis deer, peking duck and the vegetarian plate. The bison and duck were our favorites but all were very good. We had the cheese course and game plate for appetizers which were both outstanding. We had the chocolate cheesecake, berry granita and bread pudding for dessert. All the food was wonderful and would definitely recommend it to others.
We had a wonderful dining experience at GameKeeper. The cocktails were delicious, the food was extraordinary, and the setting was lovely. Our waitress was a tad on the slow side, but we weren’t in a hurry anyhow. We plan to go back when the weather is warm and enjoy outside seating.
One of our favorite restaurants. However on this occasion it was winter graduation so couple of very large parties made it noisier than usual. However service nor quality of food suffered and hostess moved us to a quiet seat next to fire as soon as it became available.
We requested a window table . We're given a table in the middle of a college graduation group.
Table for two by window was vacant the night until the other couple placed next to us couldn't handle the noise and they were moved to the table by the window. We should have complained earlier but that is. It our nature. I would recommend this restaurant mid week to in the summer or on the porch.
Went to the Gamekeeper for the second time. This restaurant is amazing! The food is outstanding. Had the mixed grill meats as an app which featured sausage of rabbit and wild boar and grilled duck breast.... delicious!! For my main I opted for the grilled Peking duck breast over honey mashed sweet potato... soooo good!!! My friend got the grilled Bison which cut like butter. Came up from Burnsville and the drive was worth it! Must go if your in the area.Cozy & beautiful
This restaurant is my absolute favorite. Consistently delicious. I am so happy that I can now Uber to the restaurant. The mixed game grill appetizer was mouth watering. All the meats on the plate were cooked to perfection. My elk shank osso bucco was over the top and my friend's bison was exceptional. The restaurant has such a special ambiance, as well. Cozy fireplace and great lighting! Very romantic.
The first impression walking in was great, great amvience but with the food/ value we were disappointed. The waitress told us the venision is from Hawaii. We thought its local food they serve. We love venison but this small portion and then served with Mac and Cheese, totally disappointing. The Mac and Cheese doesnt fit to a venison filet for 47$, just not worth spending that much money. It was also very cold in the restaurant.
This place is fantastic, beautiful setting, vale parking, awesome food and the wait staff is incredible. Took my fiance here for her birthday and turned out to be the best meal we have ever had. Due to the quiet dinning setting, the waitress leaned over while dropping off desert and sang my girl a quiet personal happy birthday song (not your typical happy birthday), which I could barely hear if at all, but it brought her to tears, and she hardly ever cries. This is why im rolling with 5 stars. The service is impeccable. P.S. I highly reccomend the bison or the elk, absolutely superb.
We are huge fans of the Gamekeeper and have been going there for years. This is the first time we have ever been disappointed. The valet was 'mandatory' - if you self park, you now need to go across the street (although there is enough space, as the restaurant is no bigger than before). The valet also managed to bring us someone else's car, which is pretty bad... Food is normally outstanding, but was not this time: meat was lower quality that usual, and not as well prepared. Bread was not good. When you are paying $50 per entree that is simply not good enough. It was such a departure from the normal high quality we even asked if they had changed chef, which were assured they had not. Overall a very disappointing experience. I don't know if we will go back...
My husband and I just celebrated our first Thanksgiving in The High Country together. Our server, Kylie, was professional, very attentive and knowledgeable—top notch. Our food was fresh, flavorful and absolutely delicious. The portions were plentiful and we managed to devour every single bite! We found the atmosphere inviting; casual and relaxing with warm lighting and soft background music. Overall, we had an amazing experience and are looking forward to dining here again very soon! Thank you for making our holiday dinner so memorable!
Have been eating here for years, usually 1-3x/year and I drive an hour to get there. Unique foods and farm to table for most (?all). The menu is a limited one, changes periodically based on availability, and is a little more so during their Thanksgiving serving but I can certainly understand that. They really need to change the music, however - Beachboy tunes? Really? How about Spencer Lewis or other chill instrumental music - something a little more sophisticated perhaps. Certainly not a deal breaker. Entrees are very good, though it helps to be slightly adventurous (Elk, Ostrich, Bison) though they usually have beef and a fish too.
We ate at The Gamekeeper for the first time on Thanksgiving Day. While this is, of course, a busy day, the food and service were outstanding. It was the best Thanksgiving meal I have ever had. Our server, Laura, was phenomenal. It was more food than we could possibly eat. My husband ordered Buffalo Trace, a Kentucky bourbon whiskey. The drinks he received did not taste at all like this brand. That was our only disappointment.
Exciting menu with too many wonderful choices to choose from. We selected the emu and venison osso bucco and were not disappointed. Both were delicious choices! We ordered the poblano peppers as an appetizer, which were tasty at points but too spicy for me to really enjoy fully.
