The best restaurant I've ever eaten at... and not just the food.
The ambience, service, and food can't be matched.
It's great for special occasions. I couldn't recommend this place any higher.
I plan on returning again ASAP.

We had a wonderful anniversary dinner! Atmosphere was romantic and semi formal. We appreciated the advice as to what was delicious on the menu.

Fantastic food! Pricey but worth every penny. Great service, but not hovering. We were there for our anniversary and they made it memorable. Thanks.

As always, this was another very enjoyable meal. I told our waiter, Noah, that the menu was
terrible-that there were too many good things on it, and that I could only have one!!!
Keep up with all the great food and ambience you provide for diners!!!!!! We are always ready
to come back to the Gamekeeper and great service!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonderful evening! Five of us with each ordering something different. All loved everything they ordered. A birthday night which they recognized with a sparkly table. Delicious and fun evening.

It is definitely overpriced and overrated. The food was good though. Plate portions were small and inconsistent across the table. The meat was not cooked to the ordered temperature. Service was not timed correctly. Dessert was supposed to be on the house for the issues. We both ordered from the dessert menu. They only comped one of them.

What a wonderful way to celebrate a special occasion! The food was scrumptous and the presentation was absolutely stunning! Husband had the venison and I had the rainbow trout. Both were some of the best meals we have ever put in our mouth. The rainbow trout melted in my mouth and the flavor was awesome! We drove across the mountain (we are from Unicoi, TN) and even though it was a rainy drive, it was beautiful driving over there and the outdoors surrounding the restaurant was perfect! Our server was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly without being obtrusive. My husband and I will be back for special occasions as this was a delightful dining experience that we will not soon forget!

The Gamekeeper has become our go-to place, whether for a date night or just to relax and enjoy a meal, the staff and food are always exceptional! The emu fan filet is fantastic, and the beer and wine selection is spot on!

Read many reviews and posts about The Gamekeeper. I've been looking forward to this visit for a few months and can't wait to go back. From the starters to dessert, we enjoyed a wide variety of flavors from the preparation to the sauces to the sides. The service was spot on!

What an interesting place. The Gamekeeper is located on a windy road on the side of a mountain. When you walk in, it feels like a cozy lodge or B & B restaurant area. Yes, there are animal heads on the walls, but that just adds to the ambiance. If you're a vegan, this likely isn't your bag.

We had the duck and emu. It was cooked well, evoked a great feeling of Fall and was great for a cool night in the mountains. The service was good, and portions were adequate. We loved the scallop fritters at the start. We'll go back.

Our server was really sweet and enthusiastic, despite being a bit overwhelmed in her section. She handled each table carefully, attentively, and didn't rush anyone in any way. She was forthcoming with information, and quick to get answers when she wasn't sure.

The food itself was cooked very well, but was handled less so. My partner and I are both fine dining/food industry professionals, and both have dietary restrictions. We indicated as much, and were disappointed at some of what we got.

BUT AGAIN, all the food was cooked beautifully. Nothing was overcooked, it was all vibrant, everything had distinct flavors.

Since the first time I visited The Gamekeeper about 4 years ago with family, I’ve been counting down the days until I could go back. My husband and I were vacationing with friends this past weekend and when we were planning the trip, I mentioned the restaurant to them, knowing they are adventurous enough to enjoy it as much as I did. As soon as they agreed, I made a reservation! We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the food was every bit as amazing as I remembered. We will definitely be visiting again!

Good reputation confirmed. Difficult to get to for non-locals, but worth the effort. Ambiance is rustic but romantic. Great bar menu. Food is top-of-the-table. Portions are generous. Well prepared and presented. Service is efficient and helpful. Our first visit based on recommendations and reviews. Not disappointed. Prices are a little rich, but appropriate. Recommended, particularly for special occasions.

We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Had a split of champagne in the bar while waiting for our table. Once seated, our server informed us that our kids were surprising us with a bottle of bubbly and a lovely cheese tray appetizer. Wow!! We also enjoyed the Gamekeeper meat sampler (a must...enough you can skip a main course). My husband had the elk for his entrée and I had a delicious roasted endive salad. We shared a glass of red wine with our meal (their wine list is very good). After filling ourselves, our server suggested a dessert...their specialty, a bourbon bread pudding...fabulous. If this wasn't enough, the dessert was on the house!!! We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and our server was friendly, attentive and fun. This was not our first time at the Gamekeeper and it won't be the last! We'll go back even without all the extras!

This resteraunt is very very noisy!! the manager at the restaurant Kim is very inexperienced and very rude the waitress I had never came back to the table and my food was of very poor quality. I ordered the Peking duck and it was nothing but sliced Duck Breast and was not rendered at all. Very fatty.
When I sent the duck back I think I waited more than 15 minutes before I had to flag down the waitress to find out what she was doing about it, and if we could have dessert .
When asking the waitress certain questions pertaining to the food and if the greens were organic she rolled her eyes and was very bothered by asking her questions.
Restaurants are a service provided to the public a waitresses job is to make the customer happy. this one decided to make it an unpleasant experience.
I believe Kim could've made our experience a better one but she chose, do to lack of experience to let everything go.

It appears that management is forgetting that the building is getting old. As you arrive and valet takes your car, you proceed to walk upstairs and notice the surrounding is unkept, stairs not even and loose boards, garbage all around. Once you step in the dining room you notice an old flooring with not very clean smell. Chairs are not comfortable at all.

We were (as always) impressed with the fine dining, too bad the rest detracts from this experience.

Best Dinner in Blowing Rock

We always enjoy our meals at The Gamekeeper. Our group included two couples. Thursdays are half price bottle of wine, so we enjoyed a wonderful Pinot Noir. The menu choices include many game meats, as well as several fish dishes. We had the mixed grill as an appetizer, with wild boar, rabbit, bison, and elk. All were perfectly grilled. The salads are large enough to share and there are several interesting combinations. For our entrees two people had the Elk filet and they said it was the best steak they have ever eaten. The ladies split the beef tenderloin and a vegetable plate. The steak was perfectly grilled and the vegetables were amazing. Finished the meal off with a delicious house-made pumpkin cheesecake. We always get the vegetable plate, it changes with the seasons. The chef really knows how to make ALL vegetables taste amazing!

My wife and I are upping our game in pursuit of better value restaurants. We've grown tired of generic eateries. What a find this place was! Upon arrival we were met by a very personable valet attendant. The entrance gave us a sneak peak at their vintage mountaintop bar. The cozy dining room offered a tremendous mountain view. Then the culinary experience unfolded. We started with drinks and Flash fried oysters. A great start. Then I enjoyed the fire roasted Elk while the wife chose the beef tenderloin. Absolutely stellar. I was a little concerned with possible "gaminess". Rest assured, that was no issue. Delicious! We ended the meal with the "Best" bread pudding ever. And my wife doesn't even like bread pudding. I had to wrestle the last bite from her. Overall, an amazing date night. Fellas, you should treat your wife.... And for an extra special treat, ask for Taylor. Our best waitress ever!
