Famous for an evolving menu that blends the traditional with the exotic, The Gamekeeper features a selection of perfectly prepared game plus a range of continental and American entrees.
Acclaimed chef Ken Gordon and wife Wendy are owners who bring tremendous warmth and skill to the table treating you more as friends than guests. You'll experience a meal to remember that includes fine wines, decadent desserts, and a generous serving of personal attention. You'll leave happy and impressed with a desire to return soon!
We were hesitant to try the game meats, but so glad we did! Great food, great service, and a fantastic place to dine.
Very disappointed. Service was very slow. We sat with used dishes for a long time between courses. Food was not hot and had clearly been sitting before being served. Final injury to insult was that they do not take Discover cards.
When we stay in Blowing Rock - Gamekeeper is a must!!
We had a delightful time for my Birthday. Excellent & attentive service. Delicious Food options galore to choose from so there is something for everyone. The Roasted Veg plate makes a great 1st Course! Vegetarians or Vegans need to let them know preferably in advance. We did notice that the risotto was not up to previous standards & heavy handed with cheese. All else very good & cook temp on Filet exactly as requested. Save room for dessert!
We enjoyed the atmosphere after they calmed the music down a bit & appreciated when they dimmed the lights - wonderful atmosphere for date, special occasions & small groups of friends. In summer deck dining is wonderful.
Excellent and diverse menu choices (Emu, Elk, Rabbit, etc.). Place has apparently been here for a few decades, I counted six AAA 4-star plaques on the wall @ entrance and after an excellent dinner, I understand why. Portions were just right, staff friendly but not overbearing. Great overall.
First time visiting Boone, NC. Read about The Gamekeeper in online article about Boone. It did not disappoint! One of the best meals I have had. I had the Emu and my date had the Elk - fantastic!!! The Escargot was AMAZING! Do not miss out on the bread pudding, it is so much more than the name implies. I was pleasantly surprised to see a couple vegetarian options on the menu as well. I cannot wait to go back next year when we vacation in Boone again. It is worth the cash splurge.
Really amazing time. Exactly the type of menu we look for , when I’m the mountains.
Everything was wonderful!
Great food and service!
This was not our first visit, but this is the kind of place - if you like their cuisine - that is well worth repeat visits. This time was a special occasion, a 40th anniversary dinner for just us - and we wound up seated next to a couple returning to celebrate their first anniversary. We enjoy the various out-of-the-ordinary food offerings, and the mixed grill with the wonderful french fries was as good as ever. We then had bison offerings for our entrees, and a lovely cheesecake dessert. It takes a little wandering on winding roads to reach The Gamekeeper, but the experience is complete and delightful.
Really loved the variety of game. Great food and sides
Went for our anniversary and could not have been more pleased with our meal. Ken and Wendy knocked it out of the park once again.
Always excellent food, excellent service and a beautiful location.
Made us feel very special for a birthday... over-the-top atmosphere,care/service,food,& birthday wishes. Great for occasions or go-to for foodies that want special atmosphere!
Delightful! Delicious! Will definitely come again.
Always great with wonderful wine selections. The rocks beside the restaurant were bubbling with the heavy rainfall it was a spectacular site.
What a special place! Everyone from the valet to the hostesses to our waiter was wonderfully welcoming and sincere. The ambiance is charmingly rustic and cozy. Our meals were delicious, and the bourbon & caramel bread pudding would be worth going back for all on on its own!
The Gamekeeper is a must if you are visiting the Boone area. The restaurant had a very rustic charm and the service was amazing. But the food was the shining star. From the starters to the desserts the food was worth every dollar spent.
Great food and service!
It’s ALWAYS great. Differentiator is the unique, delicious food paired with great service.
Tremendous restaurant!!! Can’t wait to return.
Outstanding food and impeccable service. We had the bison hanger steak and bison short ribs.
Excellent restaurant, one of the best out of many I have experienced!
Very enjoyable dinner for celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary.
Great place to experience different entrees. The duck was great.
I've eaten at the Gamekeeper several times and am always impressed with this restaurant. The food, the drinks, the staff, the ambiance are all first rate. I'm never disappointed with menu choices from appetizers to entrees to the dessert. Everything is paired well and simply delicious.
We were honeymooners and were treated royally! We have already recommended your restaurant to friends! Lovely place. Wonderful food!
Gamekeeper has a very creative menu featuring exotic meats with local fresh assortment of veggies prepared perfectly and presented well. for those that do not like exotic game, there are also dishes with more "normal" fare such as duck, trout, beef. Service was excellent and friendly.
My husband and I enjoyed the entire dinner experience. ALL of the staff were very attentive from the moment we pulled up, throughout dinner and again when we left. Our first visit, but certainly not our last.
Our server, Laura, was great. Very knowledgeable with menu and awesome all the way around!
Had a great Birthday dinner! Mixed grill excellent, as always, as well as the Bison short rib & hanging tenderloin.
Missed your great boar on the menu but everything was delicious!
One of the best meals I’ve had in NC. We had the escargot, duck and steak. Will definitely be going back.
We were visiting the Boone area for the first time and had heard a lot of good things about the Gamekeeper. We enjoyed our evening from the valet greeter to the entire staff to the location to the views to the overall ambiance. (By the time we walked down the stairs after the evening our car was waiting for us. A very nice touch.) We ordered the Mixed Game Grill which was excellent -- especially the rattlesnake/rabbit sausage. The only ding on the evening was the trout which was extremely dry and not up to par with anything else at the restaurant. It was a disappointment especially given our high expectations. Our guess is that it is an aberration and we would try Gamekeeper again.
Excellent experience on two visits while staying in the N.C. Mountains. Our of the way location is fun. Emphasis on Game is unique and everything is exceptionally well prepared. Locally sourced vegetables are a special treat. Friendly and excellent service.
Absolutely fabulous. Food flavours just tremendous for every course. Great salad with balance of pickled onions and sugared walnuts. Entrees again great balance of flavours and beautifully presented. Finished off with a desert that again had great combination of subtle flavours. A thoroughly enjoyable evening made even better by great service from all staff topped by hostess singing a table side birthday blessing. We’ve been many times over the years and never disappointed.
The Gamekeeper is by far my favorite restaurant. The food and atmosphere are unbeatable. We started our meal with perfectly prepared escargot. Then we shared the Catch of the day and the Emu. Both entrees were immaculate. We had a lovely cheesecake for desert. Our table was by the window so we enjoyed watching deer graze while dining. It was a perfect evening.
This was truly a memorable dining experience. The food was outstanding and the service was impeccable. The duck and bison dinners were both cooked to perfection and the meals’ presentations were surpassed only by their taste. Topping off the meal with the Bourbon Bread Pudding was a perfect finish. Highly recommend The Gamekeeper!
Quality of the food was excellent, but the size of the meat in the entrees did not justify the premium price.
The food was delicious and service was excellent. Our group had the mountain trout, braised bison short ribs and the fish special, which was toothfish served with ceviche. All dishes were so good!!
The food here is amazing! Entree's are unique and which sets them apart. They chef is extremely talented and you are able to taste this through the sides he chooses with each type of game. The staff is absolutely wonderful and are very knowledgeable about what the restaurant offers. The atmosphere was a bit on the louder side cause by the conversations by everyone dining; however some louder than others. In all a very wonderful restaurant.
Every dish at our table was exceptional. I love a good short rib and the bison rib i had was near perfect.
