The Gamekeeper Ratings and Reviews
As always, this was another very enjoyable meal. I told our waiter, Noah, that the menu was
terrible-that there were too many good things on it, and that I could only have one!!!
Keep up with all the great food and ambience you provide for diners!!!!!! We are always ready
to come back to the Gamekeeper and great service!!!!!!!!!!!
It is definitely overpriced and overrated. The food was good though. Plate portions were small and inconsistent across the table. The meat was not cooked to the ordered temperature. Service was not timed correctly. Dessert was supposed to be on the house for the issues. We both ordered from the dessert menu. They only comped one of them.
What a wonderful way to celebrate a special occasion! The food was scrumptous and the presentation was absolutely stunning! Husband had the venison and I had the rainbow trout. Both were some of the best meals we have ever put in our mouth. The rainbow trout melted in my mouth and the flavor was awesome! We drove across the mountain (we are from Unicoi, TN) and even though it was a rainy drive, it was beautiful driving over there and the outdoors surrounding the restaurant was perfect! Our server was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly without being obtrusive. My husband and I will be back for special occasions as this was a delightful dining experience that we will not soon forget!
Read many reviews and posts about The Gamekeeper. I've been looking forward to this visit for a few months and can't wait to go back. From the starters to dessert, we enjoyed a wide variety of flavors from the preparation to the sauces to the sides. The service was spot on!
What an interesting place. The Gamekeeper is located on a windy road on the side of a mountain. When you walk in, it feels like a cozy lodge or B & B restaurant area. Yes, there are animal heads on the walls, but that just adds to the ambiance. If you're a vegan, this likely isn't your bag.
We had the duck and emu. It was cooked well, evoked a great feeling of Fall and was great for a cool night in the mountains. The service was good, and portions were adequate. We loved the scallop fritters at the start. We'll go back.
Our server was really sweet and enthusiastic, despite being a bit overwhelmed in her section. She handled each table carefully, attentively, and didn't rush anyone in any way. She was forthcoming with information, and quick to get answers when she wasn't sure.
The food itself was cooked very well, but was handled less so. My partner and I are both fine dining/food industry professionals, and both have dietary restrictions. We indicated as much, and were disappointed at some of what we got.
BUT AGAIN, all the food was cooked beautifully. Nothing was overcooked, it was all vibrant, everything had distinct flavors.
I took my boyfriend here for his 21st birthday and everything we had was amazing! The meat sampler appetizer is awesome and I recommend trying it out before you pick your entree! The emu is some of the best meat I've ever had. The wine was awesome, our server was very attentive and they even comped my boyfriend's desert for his birthday!
Since the first time I visited The Gamekeeper about 4 years ago with family, I’ve been counting down the days until I could go back. My husband and I were vacationing with friends this past weekend and when we were planning the trip, I mentioned the restaurant to them, knowing they are adventurous enough to enjoy it as much as I did. As soon as they agreed, I made a reservation! We all thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the food was every bit as amazing as I remembered. We will definitely be visiting again!
Good reputation confirmed. Difficult to get to for non-locals, but worth the effort. Ambiance is rustic but romantic. Great bar menu. Food is top-of-the-table. Portions are generous. Well prepared and presented. Service is efficient and helpful. Our first visit based on recommendations and reviews. Not disappointed. Prices are a little rich, but appropriate. Recommended, particularly for special occasions.
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Had a split of champagne in the bar while waiting for our table. Once seated, our server informed us that our kids were surprising us with a bottle of bubbly and a lovely cheese tray appetizer. Wow!! We also enjoyed the Gamekeeper meat sampler (a must...enough you can skip a main course). My husband had the elk for his entrée and I had a delicious roasted endive salad. We shared a glass of red wine with our meal (their wine list is very good). After filling ourselves, our server suggested a dessert...their specialty, a bourbon bread pudding...fabulous. If this wasn't enough, the dessert was on the house!!! We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and our server was friendly, attentive and fun. This was not our first time at the Gamekeeper and it won't be the last! We'll go back even without all the extras!
