Famous for an evolving menu that blends the traditional with the exotic, The Gamekeeper features a selection of perfectly prepared game plus a range of continental and American entrees.
Acclaimed chef Ken Gordon and wife Wendy are owners who bring tremendous warmth and skill to the table treating you more as friends than guests. You'll experience a meal to remember that includes fine wines, decadent desserts, and a generous serving of personal attention. You'll leave happy and impressed with a desire to return soon!
Our experience couldn’t have been better; we asked for a table outside to enjoy the beautiful evening and our food and service were perfect. We certainly enjoyed the entire evening
The Gamekeeper is easily one of our favorite restaurants ever. We got the elk, duck and ribeye and it was some of the best dishes we’ve ever had. The service was friendly and wonderful and the view was gorgeous! Couldn’t recommend this place more!
I have food allergies and the kitchen was most accommodating, changing the preparation of the dishes I wanted to allow me to be able to eat them. A wonderful restaurant! If you are anywhere close, drive to it!
Javari was a excellent server. Food was interesting, well prepared and presented. Dessert of bread pudding was especially good. Cocktails could use some work. Overall, a very nice evening for us and our guests.
This has long been one of my favorite restaurants in the Boone/Blowing Rock area. The food did not disappoint; however, I was disappointed to see that they had raised prices (especially on wine) and reduced portions. I will go back, but it is now a restaurant for very special occasions. Dinner for two: two entrees, a shared salad and a $50 bottle of wine (one of the lower priced) came to $160 before tip.
Our dining experience was superb! We celebrated a birthday and everything was perfect!
Unique menu. Get the game sampler appetizer of the day.
This was our 3rd experience and each has been fantastic. If we did not live 6 hours away we would eat there more often.
The game sampler appetizer was tasty, not sure why they serve it with loads of fries piled on top. We both ordered the ribeye, it was under cooked and heavily salted. We could not eat it. They did compensate us for the steaks. Service was adequate but not impressive.
Most delicious meal I’ve had in ages! Absolutely outstanding! Would highly recommend The Gamekeeper—and would eat there again in a heartbeat! Everything about the place is fantastic: the view is to-die-for, the restaurant is adorable, the staff are so professional and attentive (without being overbearing), the wine list has our favorite Pinot noir, Clark & Telephone, and the food was out-of-this-world! Definitely a 5 out of 5 for me!
My husband & I celebrated yet another birthday in our favorite place! We enjoyed the mixed grill sampler (a must have!), the bison (hubby ‘s fave), & the trout which was cooked perfectly. We will return in August for his birthday! Thank you Gamekeeper for always being fantastic!
I can't remember our server's name, but the young man had only been there a couple of months. He was knowledgeable, efficient and very sweet. Wine was excellent, we had elk, duck and emu and everyone was pleased with their meals. My only complaint is that there were a couple of groups who were pretty boisterous (and possibly over served) that made it difficult to have a conversation until they left. All in all, a very nice evening.
We went to the gamekeeper last year for my birthday and enjoyed it so much we returned this year in the hope that it would be as good. It exceeded our expectations in so many ways, from the start we were treated as long lost friends even though we had only been there once a year ago, from the birthday greeting on the table, the hostesses and waitress giving birthday wishes and the manager saying she remembered us, we were made to feel at home. The food was excellent, my wife’s salad was one of her favorites and my drum was fixed a way I had never thought of before but would certainly like to try again. Plus we got a free bread pudding desert that was definitely something special. Even the valet parking people were the friendliest I have ever encountered. However the icing on the cake occurred as we were leaving when the manager? stopped me to sing a birthday song as we were leaving, a touching gesture so unexpected that it made my day. Hope we can return again.
We love this place. The food is always top notch and the staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. We will be back for sure!!
Great dinner. staff managed a summer shower well and shuttled outside diners indoors seamlessly. Well done.
First time at Gamekeeper, we had the tenderloin and duck! Both were delicious, we will definitely be going back. Our server David did a great job. The only negative was a table of 6 behind us, the 3 women in the group could not speak without hollering so it was hard for my wife and I to hear each other.
Great food, service and staff couldn't have ask for more
We've known about the Gamekeeper for years but this was our first visit to the restaurant and we instantly fell in love. From being greeted by the valet service, to Sarah the bartender, to Ryan our AMAZING server, we had an absolutely wonderful time celebrating 10 years together. We both work in the hospitality industry and the level of service from everyone who works here was top notch. Loved it!
Repeat patron here and we love the whole experience
Excited to go to Gamekeeper for second time. We first went this winter and loved it.
Pulled into parking lot and waved down by two excited and friendly valets. Great welcome. Same as we entered, polite hostess.
The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Sorry we missed our female servers name. Started with the mixed game grill as an appetizer. Two meats (emu and bison) and two sausages (rabbit and duck) with sauces. It was a great way to start. There were also garlic fries with it. My wife had this with a wine and I had a local Booneshine Tropical. All meats very tender and nothing had a game taste.
For dinner I had the cornmeal crusted rainbow trout with lemon capers salsa. It was flakey and delicious. The creamy polenta also was a great side. My wife had the Bison cooked medium rear as recommended. Butter knife was more than enough to cut. Seasoned to perfection with a horseradish white sauce. Seasonal vegetables were also a perfect combo.
We were too stuffed for dessert, but did take one back to resort. We had a chocolate caramel cheesecake w/ whip cream.
It was a perfect night. Every bite was fantastic and staff was “on it”. Manager also came around a couple times to check on all and we kept smiling.
Will be back in fall.
Nice amazing food
If you are in the Boone area and you don’t eat here, you are absolutely missing out. Great food, great drinks, outstanding service and a very nice ambiance. An absolute must-do.
The experience was outstanding. Can't wait until the next time!
Always a great experience. We love going here. Great Food!!! Great Service!!!
Went here for our 9th anniversary. the staff were fantastic! The food was excellent and reasonably priced considering. We drove an hour and a half for it and weren't disappointed. We will be back as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone!
We both enjoyed the meal. We went there for dinner and the food was excellent. Regarding the service, I would expect the waitress to clean off the table from crumbs as she serves the next dish. Typically the practice in fine restaurants that the waitress is always keeping the table tidy. The restaurant really needs to invest and some better music. I will listen to anything, but this sound track featured tracks that was made in the 70s, fusing together jazzy, Elvis, Sintra, stuff that was featured on laugh-in. With the beautiful setting and fabulous food, something, anything would be better.
We went there for our fourth anniversary. The experience was amazing; attention to detail when providing customer service. Definitely recommend this place for special occasion. When we were heading out from the restaurant, valet already pulling around the vehicle. We didn’t even have to tell anyone. Thank you for giving us an unforgettable experience.
It was wonderful.
Wonderful food and service
My wife and I have been visiting the Gamekeeper for over 10 years.....it never disappoints. If anything it keeps getting better. One of our favorite places to eat anywhere....not just the area.
Delicious! Been there several times and it never disappoints!
I have been quite lucky in my person and professional life to visit all 50 states and multiple countries. Because of that, I have had the privilege to eat a a variety of establishments. Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite places of all time. Every aspect of the experience, was top notch.
From the moment we walked through the door. The staff was unprofessional, they keep asking us the same questions.
The most appalling was OVERLY flirtatious
floor manager. Bending over my husband,
Showing her boobs, bending over to put her rearend in men's face. I was not the only one who felt that way.
Perfect! Absolute best experience. From the food to the people, and the special exclusive Happy Birthday rendition written by a staff member. My wife had a great birthday experience in the mountains!
Great restaurant for a special occasion. Food & Service were great. Will definitely go back.
Amazing food, great service, fantastic atmosphere. Will definitely be returning and will recommend to everyone
Amazing atmosphere and the food is outstanding!!!!
The food was superb and the service was outstanding. Perfect place to celebrate our anniversary.
Great experience in every way. Location is perfect high up to have great sunset views. Asked for a table for sunset view in advance and they delivered. Valet parking person was outstanding greeting us as our first impression. Food was perfect, something for everyone from typically done extremely well to adventurous and amazing. I could go on.....you will not be disappointed.
