We love this restaurant! The food is top notch and never disappoints.
Our server was super busy on this particular visit but typically the service is just as wonderful.
Highly recommend a visit to this restaurant!!! You also must save room for the bread pudding!!!
As always, another truly spectacular dinner at the GK. Dinner is perhaps the best in the entire state.
Thanks for such a wonderful dinner and evening.
Lovely location nestled into the side of the mountain. Very happy to have found pet friendly outside seating our dogs loved. Food was very good, protein portions were acceptable but heavily lacking on the sides for the cost of each entree. Swanky food, swanky portions?
My husband loved the elk, as did the puppers. I had the emu (as heavily pushed by the server) , which was a unique experience- dish was great but not something I would order again. I ordered it as recommend by the server, rare, which had great flavor but not as "tenderloin-y" as described but more like the raw poultry it was. Backtracking, the appetizer of fried green tomatoes was of a very unique presentation of not only green but heirlooms as well and delicious. The bread pudding desert was phenomenal and well priced for the size. Staff was friendly the entire outing, not overbearing and attentive. I was not thrilled I was not allowed to keep a pitcher on the table or pour my own water but we're back at that swanky factor.
We had a great time, so did the dogs. Overall experience was wonderful and this restaurant will become a regular part of our mountain vacations.
Although we needlessly made reservation since we sat outside with our wolves, I would recommenced them, we could barely get out of the parking lot by the time we finished dinner at 6:45PM. PACKED it was, with good reason.
We look forward to trying other menu items in the future.
My husband & I went on a Sunday night at 6:30 did not leave until after 9. Everyone is so welcoming, our entrees we’re delicious
Great food experience Thanks!!
We were visiting Butler and the rental home owner recommended dining at The Gamekeeper. It was a perfect evening. The setting was romantic, the service professional, friendly and personable. The meal itself was one of the best I’ve ever enjoyed. The menu was unique and the culinary team took great pride in the food quality, preparation and presentation. I would go out of my way to visit The Gamekeeper again.
I have enjoyed The Gamekeeper on many, many trips to watch App State play football. I have never been disappointed. Food is great and the drinks and wine are better.
Set a reservation for my wife’s 29th birthday. The staff was amazing, service was on point and I will definitely be coming back. The elk was so delicious!
We had a wonderful time! We always pick the gamekeeper for birthdays and anniversaries. We celebrated 4 years with the most delicious foods and view! We’ve never sat out on the deck and it was amazing.
You can’t beat the Gamekeeper. Best ambiance in the mountains. Great food. Fantastic soundtrack. ❤️❤️
Great evening to celebrate our anniversary. Food was so tasty. Great service. View was amazing.
Love the menu. We wanted to try everything. We definitely would recommend this place to anyone looking for something a bit different. Best elk we’ve ever had, including Jackson Hole.
The new beef Wellington is awesome! GK rocks!
My wife and I both enjoyed our dinners, the best dinner in Blowing Rock area on our visit. This is a unique restaurant with great food, outstanding service, and wonderful atmosphere. We will make this a go to place on our trips to the area from here on.
Never regret visiting The Gamekeeper, food is always outstanding. The mixed grill appetizer is wonderful and always tasty! Blueberry cobbler & cheesecake was awesome.
Above our expectations. We had been planning a visit for awhile and the staff made our Anniversary special. Adventurous pre dinner drinks started us out and trained staff suggesting the wine to compliment our meal choices as well as menus descriptions, everything was perfection. I would suggest the Mixed Game Grill as an appetizer should it be on the menu when you visit, that made picking our Entree an easy decision. We dined outside as the weather was beautiful ,the ambience was enhanced by the night sky and sounds of a mountain summer. Attention to details and exceptional service made this one of our top dining experiences- we will return.
We enjoyed a wonderful meal with great service and the perfect atmosphere.
Delicious food, excellent service, beautiful location.
Having been here several times through the years, I was very disappointed with this visit, particularly since I told my guest it would be the highlight of our visit to the area. Service was incredibly rushed (but attentive) as if they were trying to turn over the table quickly. The food was just "ok" and not accurately described on the menu. "The Catch" was described as snapper with octopus in a crawfish broth with capellini. What we got was a bowl of pasta with a mere 1 oz. piece of snapper on top, four shrimp, and scant broth. Definitely not the same Gamekeeper of five years ago.
The food was incredible, service was great and the ambiance was very romantic!
This was our 2nd time at The Gamekeeper and we loved it! It was our 5-year anniversary and they even placed a sweet "Happy Anniversary" plaque on our table. The entire staff treats you like family from the moment you arrive. The talent and expertise of the Chef is obvious when the plates come out and the food is absolutely amazing! The setting couldn't be any more romantic in this cozy cottage tucked away in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. We highly recommend The Gamekeeper and can't wait until our next visit!
Amazing service, ambience and food is remarkable and truly memorable
Beautiful! The view, atmosphere, service, and food were perfect to celebrate my husbands birthday!
What a special place! Highly recommend it!!
Gourmet dining without the pretense or stuffiness. Wonderful food and service!
Gamekeeper staff did an excellent job of making our special occasion dinner delightful - followed notes in the system - food as usual is exceptional - anyone visiting/living in the Blowing Rock, Boone, etc area most make this restaurant “a must go to”
Delicious food and warm atmosphere! I love the feeling in this restaurant.... very cozy! We’ve been here many times this summer and as a year-round plan to come often! Such a gem!
Great service. Food good but not outstanding. Facility run down bodering on dumpy. Crowded & much too much noise. Definately over priced. Overall a real disappointment. First & last visit.
For these prices, tables should have table cloths & include a small dinner salad. Too noisy if over half full. Time for a tune up & spruce up.
Interesting setting featuring very well prepared game with helpful sommelier and knowledgeable waitress. Thoroughly enjoyed the Emu & Elk.
Wonderful food and service in a peaceful, rustic setting with a beautiful view.
One of the best meals that I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Located off of the beaten path in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina you first enjoy an adventurous drive through a winding road to indulge in beautiful scenery, wonderful jazz music in the background, great staff and some of the most delicious food one could partake in. Listed as one of the most romantic places to enjoy an evening of fine food and it did not disappoint. If visiting the Banner Elk/Boone area, highly recommend enjoying a meal at this wonderful establishment.
Service and food excellent. Very disappointed that they were out of duck for a 7:30 reservation. No real substitute.
Unusual menu choices were all wonderful!
We celebrated 24 years of marriage at the Gamekeeper. They made it special by wishing us a happy anniversary and setting a small plaque at our table with the words "happy anniversary". Our server was clearly well-trained in the art of fine dining and super sweet. The chef was amazing! Wonderful talent! Loved the presentation, taste, and temperature of the food was impeccable. The building had eclectic decor with a very in interesting history. We loved seeing a wild deer as we entered the property. Finally, the valet had quite the job. He ran, not walked, up and down a steep hill to and from each vehicle.
Would definitely go back when we visit the Boone area.
Wow! This is my new favorite restaurant. We had the game plate to start off with and kith and kin cabernet. We then ordered elk and emu. It was the best meal I have ever had. Everyone enjoyed. I had bread pudding which was amazing, but my son ordered the cheesecake and it was worth it. We will be back soon I hope.
Always an amazing experience!
This was our third visit to The Gamekeeper and it was the best food we have had yet. The entire experience would have been 5 stars but we had an 8:00 reservation and we didn’t get seated until 8:30. There were 3 groups of us that had 8:00 reservations and they were unable to seat which meant a very crowded entry into the restaurant and a very crowded bar. There just isn’t enough room in this restaurant for people to have to wait an excessive amount of time to be seated.
Groovy little place. Highly recommend sitting outside for sunset. Food was outstanding and staff was friendly and helpful.
