We’ve been going there for a number of years now and this was not a good supper. I was very disappointed this trip, but we will be back again.
Great restaurant with awesome food.
Made a reservation, arrived 15 min early 30 min wait at the bar. Not enough seating in the bar. Service was sort of lacking considering the rave reviews. Dinner was excellent
Excellent food and service. This is our favorite place to dine in the High Country.
Visiting my parents
Awesome assorted platter of game meats. Great Bison Tenderloin and Beef Tenderloin.
Friendly staff. It was an awesome experience.
This is easily one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Service was flawless, ambiance was rustic but not crude, and the food was absolutely astounding. I've been to a few Michelin star places in, and I feel confident in saying that The Gamekeeper would make their list.
Always outststanding ! From the staff to the cuisine to the capping off French press coffee , Gamekeeper has always been world class .
We try and get here once and year and it never disappoints. Ever changing menu that’s second to none. Service, experience, atmosphere are always amazing.
Everything about our last dining experience at The Gamekeeper was outstanding! Our seating arrangements were wonderful with a beautiful view out the window. Our server was fantastic in every way possible. The shrimp cake we had as an appetizer was delicious as were our root vegetable salads and main entrees. My husband had a bison dish and I had a creamy fettuccine pasta dish with roasted duck. When the hostess found out we were there celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary, she gifted us with their delicious bread pudding with a caramel sauce. Yes, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and we have already recommended The Gamekeeper to several of our friends.
Absolutely incredible night. The waiter, the Maitre'd (Kappa) and chef really out-did themselves. This was my birthday dinner and it had been a few years since we had been in...we were quickly reminded why this is one of our all time favorite restaurants in the STATE! Incredible table service, food offerings, food quality, ambiance...the list goes on. We greatly enjoyed it!!!
My wife and I went for our anniversary. Wonderful game foods and the menu changes. Great service and ambiance, especially for a special occasion, romantic dinner. Bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable. Had the Emu dish which was my first tasting of emu and it was delicious. Very good wine selection as well. Easy 15 minute drive by Lyft (or Uber) from our hotel in Boone.
My sister and I loved our dinner at the Gamekeeper, as always! She had the Emu filet and I had the duck, both of which were prepared perfectly and had delicious sauce and sides. We also had their chocolate cheesecake dessert, which was amazing! Friendly staff, great ambience, and I appreciate the valet parking also!
Everything was wonderful. Love the food, drinks and service. Really enjoyed talking to all of the staff.
Great off the beaten path while in Boone or Banner Elk. Suggest UBER if you have a glass or two as the drive back down the mountain requires focus! Excellent wine list, great game and fantastic service.
Not into the Apres SKi theme - thanks goodness we came later than the tuba band. Looking forward to Gamekeeper getting back to who they are - an upscale mountain style restaurant with beautiful decor, lovely , gracious staff and delicious food. Food was not as good as past visits. The bread was hard and inedible, veggie entree lacked excitement - 3rd guest did love hid buffalo hangar steak! Wine list very nice, as always
Incredible food! Good price for the excellent quality.
We dined at the gamekeeper for my beloved’s birthday and had an absolutely phenominal experience. Not only was the service excellent and the ambiance great but of course the food was splendid as well. I cannot thank the staff at The Gamekeeper for providing us a wonderful memory.
Morgan our waitress was such a delight & we so enjoyed her service !!! However, she didn't tell us about the drink specials that night until the hostess came around & mentioned them. Unfortunately we had a loud group of 6 men sitting near us that was unusual for the GK.
The potato soup was exceptionable. We aren't very big eaters, so just had soup & salad for our meals.
The valet was so personable - came waving & meeting us in the rain & then escorted us with an umbrella !!
As always, a wonderful experience.
The service was incredible. Every staff member there made it their mission to go out of their way to make this wonderful experience for us.
Food was amazing. Can't wait to go again. Is definitely for special occasions as is a bit pricey for everyday. But, menus is not everyday items eiter. How often you eat Emu?
Very good food, surprised me with a temporary German inspired menu.
Worth every penny. My wife and I drove from Wilmington which is about 4 hours for my birthday. This restaurant was recommended to us. I can’t say enough good things about it. The food was exotic, cooked perfectly you could taste every flavor. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. The hostesses were great and valet as well. Very unique decor and location topped it off. You won’t regret spending the extra money here.
Never disappoints!!! One complaint about food is they ran out of the Duck and Bison. Other than that it was great. Service was awesome, drinks were on point. Will definitely be going back again and again.
Wonderful dining experience! An absolute must in Boone!
Was very good except our appetizer was not hot. The restaurant is very pretty and the people were extremely friendly. We will be back!
1st Anniversary on Valentine’s weekend. Subdued celebration but excellent service. Amazing food. Lean, exotic meats. Will definitely be back and highly recommend!
Everything was near perfect.
I prefer to park my own car rather than being required to use valet parking.
Food was delicious and service exceptional! Would recommend & will go back!
The food is spectactular. The staff is very educated about the menu. They offer suggestions and are very timely. This is a unique place and I will return.
Went there for Valentine’s Day and had a terrific experience! Great food, professional but friendly service, and just a great atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back.
The food was amazing. Try the Emu, you won’t be disappointed.
Sarah was a wonderful server. The hostess was very accommodating when we called to see if we could come earlier than our 9 pm reservation. the beef medallions and cab sauv butter with garlice mash potatoes, red cabbage and green beans was outstanding. it was a great suggestion to try the sampler game platter before ordering entree. my husband enjoyed the venison. very nice valet men.
The food was superb and our waiter was incredibly helpful.
If you have a chance to go to the The Gamekeeper, do it! The food is not your average cuisine and it’s delicious.
Filet mignon and rabbit were excellent. Flourless chocolate cake was hard to cut with a fork...I would not recommend it. Live polka music was excellent!!!!!
Amazing game dishes paired with awesome veggie choices. Very surprising combinations. Delightful. Perfect for family groups and romantic dinners.
Lovely place. We had to eat in the bar area so didnt get a good overall experience, but it was still very nice. Food was good, but pricey for what you got. But with that said this,is one of those special occasion type places. Would definitely go again.
My boyfriend and I went to the Gamekeeper on Thursday, January 24th, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. for our anniversary (which we specified on the OpenTable reservation). We were greeted warmly by the hosts and they were extremely friendly. They had even set up a special booth for us with a sign that read "Happy Anniversary" on it. Throughout the entire experience, they were super sweet to us. Our server's name was Laura and she answered all of our questions well and had great food and wine suggestions. She clearly had extensive knowledge of the menu, even when they were doing a special German themed menu (with very lengthy names of dishes, might I add, not that I am complaining about this, but Laura was great at pronouncing everything). We ordered the "Jager Fleicher" that Laura recommended to us, which was a sampler of many of the meats. We loved the variety of sausages that were on the plate, though we couldn't really tell the difference between the two types that were provided. The sauces were delicious. Afterwards, we decided on ordering the duck as well as the bison entreés. Although my boyfriend agreed that he should have ordered something different (because bison was in the appetizer), both of the dishes were delicious. If it matters, I am almost positive that Jackson made our food, so kudos to him! During the meal we ordered half-off glasses of the right hand shiraz and ended the night with a "turbo coffee," which both complimented the food extremely well, as per the suggestion of our server. Overall, this dinner was clearly pricey, but absolutely worth it. We will definitely be returning to the Gamekeeper soon. Thank you!
