Made a reservation at the Gallery however it was closed for an event. Had to make do with the lounge bar, supposedly with the same menu. The grilled chicken had probably been grilled many times over - it was tough and without taste. The calamari was so-so, not much calamari but a lot of fried baking soda flour!
Wished the restaurant made reservation not available when it was booked for events.
Service was very slow. We felt forgotten about. We ordered 6 items, expecting them to arrive as 2 appetizers and then 2 entrees with 2 sides. Instead, after a very long wait for the food, all 6 plates came out at the same time. They could not fit all on our table. Dumb timing planning. I sent back the 2 sides and asked that they keep them warm so when we'd finished our 1st 4 plates they could return them. When asked for the two last plates, it took forever. But, the food itself was quite good. And the setting was nice and so convenient for theatre. It just seems badly managed. My dining partner, along time hotel waiter in a very high end hotel tried to tell me the problem was the kitchen not the servers.I assume he is right due to his experience. But it certainly looked and felt like there weren't nearly enough servers. Especially since they are running food out to the outside large bar too.
Busy night at the restaurant. Our table was close to the bar area, which was very busy. We had theatre tix, but they were on top of the service, making sure we wouldn't be late. Another waitress helped our waitress with the drink order, very pleasant. our waitress delivered them, but she seemed out of sort this eve. It did all work out. the food was delicious, and our waitress seemed to get more on top of it all. We did have a nice eve, great food, etc... We love this place, and will be back again.
Great restaurant. We got confused and came in on the wrong date. Staff was accommodating and found us room in the bar. Room was modern and comfortable. Food was very tasty and memorable. Dessert was fantastic. Bar tender made creative drinks and made it a point to check in periodically with us to make sure we had everything we needed. I can't wait to go back.
The short ribs were positively delightful -- a real standout. I'm not sure I've ever eaten anything so tender (no knife required). The apple-jalapeño purée was a nice blend of tartness and heat, and the rosemary crumbs added wonderful flavor and texture. The appetizers and desserts were also quite good, but they didn't quite measure up to the main. To top it off, we had the friendliest waitress imaginable, which made for a very pleasant dining experience.
This was our first visit to Boston so after reviewing many restaurants for restaurant week we decided to try this one. We had the dinner pri fix menu and from start to finish We cleaned our plates. We had the salmon tartare, sweet pea soup, Crispy chicken, braised short ribs, & dessert. The ribs were cooked to perfection! The chicken was crispy and delicious. The entire staff catered to us including the manager who came to our table and spoke to us for several minutes. We will definitely return here on our next visit to Boston! This restaurant is a must try!
If you have eaten at Jean George's and The Mercer Kitchen in New York, you will be disappointed with Market. The calamari appetizer and the BALT were lackluster and the pizza had a badly burned crust. The special corn ravioli and the chocolate pudding were delicious. Our waitress was loud, unrefined and bossy. Our party of three agreed that we would not go back.
We were 45 minutes late for our reservation due to traffic and we only had 45 minutes to eat before getting to the theatre. They offered us a seat at the bar, told us to relax and they would take care of us. We each ordered a drink and our meal; enjoyed the drink (which the bartender half refilled at no charge!), the meal arrived on time, was delicious, and we made it to the play in time. We could not have asked for more!
By far the the best meals I have had in Boston in the last couple years have been at Market. The ambiance is calm and beautiful. The service is impeccable, all the staff are helpful and friendly; they always have a smile for you. If the tuna tartare is on the menu, get it. It was brought over from John-Georges' NY Spice Market.
Although the food was good, the service, fine there was nothing remarkable about Market. The ambiance is a little too sterile and the prices a little too high for what you did receive. It is located in the theater district which is convenient, but I don't think that I would go back; just not worth it for the overall experience.
We enjoyed our dinner at Market last night. I was meeting a business colleague and it proved to be a quiet dining spot with a good menu. I ordered the seared scallops which were excellent, and my business partner ordered the beef tenderloin which came highly recommended. We had the Almond Layer Cake with galzed apricots for dessert which was excellent!
the dinner started off on the wrong foot because of a horrible hostess.there were only two other tables in the restaurant.After being seated my mother was chilly and felt a draft.we assumed that it would not be a problem to make sure my mother was not cold. My fiancee asked the hostess if we could change tables and the hostess responded with a very offensive attitude and told her that there was no air conditioning on,like we offended her or she didn't understand that tall ceilings may create a draft.to top it off she asked a50yrold lady to switch seats with me with an empty restaurant.she left by telling my mom to wear a jacket.we will never becoming back cause of her.too bad cause i worked with MrBarros and imsure thats not his style...
Special occasion dinner to celebrate brother's birthday. Food and service lived up to expectation of previous dining experience here. Only one minor issue. That being we had ordered an entree dish to be shared as an 2nd course and it was brought with the main entree. I'll lay that on possible miss-communication rather than a mistake on part of the staff. Excellent wine suggestion and our waitress was exceptionally personable and immediately likeable. A surprise plate of assorted small deserts for my brother, embellished with Happy Birthday in chocolate script on the plate was a hit.
My meal was out of this world. The others with me were a little disappointed. I had the scallops sashimi appetizer. My main course was the lobster. I have never had a better meal. However, my dinner partners (wife, father, daughter, nephew) thought the meal was just okay. My personal experience was one of the best meals I have had in Boston in a long time. So, for me, this gets a 5. The others give it a 3.5. I think it is worth a try.
