The Gallery - W Hotel
From fresh ingredients to rotating art exhibits to live music, all elements in The Gallery are locally sourced. Traditional New England dishes are made in a non-traditional way, and artfully plated by Chef Elyssa Dubois.
Having never been there before we weren't sure what to expect but it was convenient to the theater we were attending. Our server was great and the food was excellent.
The menu was very comprehensive and had Vegan options, which is why I went there, but the meals were not very tasty. We had good attention from the staff, including the Managers. It's very convenient to all the Boch theaters. Nice bar.
Great food, great atmosphere... however terrible service .
It took us awhile to be seated. Awhile to take our order. No one checked in for drink refills.
And awhile to flagged someone down for our checks.
Nice hospitality, good but limited menu, but limited ambiance. Not an elegant night out but good before theater spot.
Food and service were good. Not much atmosphere. Would not go there to celebrate an occasion but we were staying at the hotel and it was convenient.
There was nowhere on the website that said that there would be a limited Valentine's Day menu, so that was a little annoying. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant (which was pretty empty at the time), and asked to be seated at a table closer to the window, but were told that tables were reserved. However, like I said, it was almost completely empty and I seriously doubt that 4 reservations had requested to be seated near a window. Also, we felt like we were being rushed out the entire time, but that could be because there were only 3 couples in the entire restaurant at that time and the staff were being extra attentive. Might try it on another night other than Valentine's Day, but not sure.
Great breakfast!! Awesome Burgers too! Staff was very friendly and accommodating. We loved our stay at the W Boston!
Very convenient to Boch center and Wilbur. Limited menu on show nights. Priced high like most hotels. Weak drinks, stick with beer and wine. Service was good. Seating comfortable. Food was good but high priced for what it was.
Hubby had the calamari, duck fat fries and Caesar salad - total waste of money. I had the skirt steak which was very good. Will
not be going back!
When I saw the W jazz brunch advertised I was excited. Expected a large room with acoutics appropriate for a jazz band and spacious seating with a high floor view. Not what we got!! Restarunt small, immediately inside Hotel entry door on ground level - view of sidewall in theather district :(. Band too loud for space, played 10 -15 min short sets and took 3 breaks the 1 hr 20 min time we were there. Worse yet, place was about half full when we sat down, yet we were told food would be a 45 min wait even before we ordered due to a kitchen staffing issue. Cappacino was nothing but milk. Breakfast OK.
It was conveniently located, we didn’t need to leave the hotel. Quite overpriced. Not the best experience. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday, confirmed by a staff member (took away any surprises I was planning). Also no complementary sweets for my wife, so I question the need to confirm it was her special day. Barely had much interaction with the staff after that. It was a cold experience, especially when there wasn’t that many people in the restaurant, we felt ignored. Food was close to average. I’m caught between a rock and a hard place when rating a place like this because I really loved the hotel itself. The Gallery was not anything like it appears to be in the website’s pictures. Different angles or updated images for guests would have made me choose otherwise. Thank you, next.
Very limited theater menu. Calamari was too crispy (too much time in the fryer). Medium/medium well burger was served well done. Wife’s steak w/ potatoes was lacking flavor. Flavors for calamari and burger were good (the fries were very good) and the location perfect for going to a show but the quality was poor. Seem to focus more on the night scene than the food.
Good was excellent
Food and drink were fine. Manager was rude to my wife. We had a reservation at 7:15 and were going to a show but he said we had to wait 15 minutes. What is the point of making a reservation if you are not going to hold a table for us? Our server was extremely slow and in no rush at all to help us. She moved with little urgency.
My friends and I came here for dinner and the service was very poor. We were seated immediately which was great, but the waitress did not come over for twenty minutes to take drinks orders. We gave our orders when she finally arrived and then asked for a couple of minutes for food. Another twenty minutes passed and we had to flag down another waiter to ask for our waitress. She returned and took our food order and said our drinks would be right out. I had to ask again because another 20 minutes went by with no drinks. Drinks didn’t come out until at least 45 minutes after we ordered them. Waitress was so slow that we gave our card to the food runner who brought out our meals, because hadn’t seen the waitress since she dropped off our drinks. I will not be returning.
Jazz Music Very Nice
Service Okay
Very good food, nice dining experience. Only negative was the attentiveness of our server. Had to ask others to get her attention after sitting for 30 minutes with no service. Once it was addressed, everything else was timely.
Food wasn’t cooked- the short rib was cold?!!, Polenta was terrible, it took forever to get a drink & get served, waitstaff didn’t care. Other than that, it was fine.
food was good, but nothing special, limited variety of choices, I liked the room and the seating was very comfortable
We have made a reservation that restaurant did not have for some reason . It was an empty place anyway .
I took us 20 min to get our drinks , waiting staff was ok Extremely slow .
Food was less than mediocre , my friends had chowder that was ok and I got a medium burger that came well done and salty
This restaurant in the heart of theater District and could be golden but I guess no need .
It was less than ok experience
Food wasn’t very good for the price
Wouldn’t go back
Our reservation was accepted but when we got there the restaurant wasn't open. No notification was sent setting the restaurant was not going to serve the evening we scheduled.
The hostess, Kim, was so sweet and attentive; even after we were seated and our server was taking care of us she continued to check in and see how we were enjoying our brunch. I also loved the brass band you had playing, the perfect background level to enjoy the music but still have a conversation. And the food! Oh my gosh, those breakfast tacos were amazing but the blueberry lemon pancakes were everything! Five stars all around.
Great service, but below average food and drinks. Wouldn't come back.
We really enjoyed having brunch on Sunday before we attended Cinderella at the Boston Opera House. We were a group with 5 children, and they absolutely loved it.
The kids menu was great. Each child's food was beautifully presented with fruit on the side. It made them feel special, without being overpriced.
The jazz group that was performing was outstanding. They played so well, and were fun to listen to. They were very skilled musicians and really created an amazing ambiance. They also understood how to play at a level where you could still have a conversation at your table, but hear and enjoy the music.
The staff was attentive and took care of all of our needs. They were polite and friendly.
The location could not have been better. We hopped out of the Boylston T stop and were there in a short walk- then were able to make it from the restaurant to the Opera house in less than 10 minutes walking (with children!)
We highly recommend the jazz brunch and will definitely be back soon!
You would think that a restaurant in the theatre district would be better able to manage the pre-show rush, but no. Staff was nice, but slow (and this was before it was 'busier') to the point the maitre'd took our order. Apps came out with dinner, so the apps were 'cold'... We arrived at 6, and didn't even have time for dessert... The show was at 8... right across the street. Definitely not worth the hassle and price for food that was ok.
Small menu very accomadating servers get there before 1pm for thr brunch menu.
Delicious brunch. The band that was playing was amazing and added to the experience. Will definitely be back!
Great food! Bartender is really good at making drinks! Service a little slow, but we were in a rush.
Not worth the money
We visited The Gallery on the final evening of DIne Out Boston and each enjoyed the special menu. The scallop appetizer in cauliflower puree was excellent and featured nearly as many scallops as most entree size servings. I followed that with the Salmon bowl which featured fresh greens and chili-coated chick peas and was also delicious. My dining partner had the kale quinoa salad to start and the chicken entree and enjoyed both. I also opted for the wine pairings which featured 3 full size pours and were an excellent complement to the plates.
The location was ideal and the food were good. Also, one of the waiters, who was not serving us, was kind and tried to be helpful whenever he could. However, the service was so poor and uncoordinated that it caused us to be late for our show. Really surprised to have had this experience. I would assumed the restaurant had an off night.
enjoyed immensely. Power Caesar salad w/shrimp - excellent - as well as the side Maine lobster mac and cheese - perfect ending dessert - Candied Pecan Cannolis .. wait staff attentive ... really nice ... then off to the show
The menu is quite limited and features odd variations on Mexican fare, not entirely successful. Service was haphazard, if cordial. Something is lacking here -- which is too bad, since this is a superb location.
Not into Mexican Hotel Food. Background music needs improvement
Food was only ok, service was inattentive, wine pours were erratic and skimpy.
We hosted a family gathering at the W for folks from all over the country at W Boston. Hotel service was terrific but the Gallery restaurant just couldn’t get it right. We were the only party at the restaurant but simple glasses of wine & beer took 10 min to arrive, the food was definitely Marriot institutional, though dressed to sound otherwise. W is fabulous but Gallery restaurant needs help.
Service was very slow. We did have a 10 person group but the dishes came at different times. The mac and cheese was completely tasteless. I had the coconut milk chicken which was very nice. My niece enjoyed the tacos.
Not the place to go before a show! Although the food was good the service was incredibly slow, even just for drinks. We had to tell the server a couple of times that we needed to be out by a certain time. The food actually came about 20 minutes before we needed to leave.
Overall experience was just ok. I would go back for a cocktail but not food. My meal came out ice cold
