We arrived for an early supper on a Friday evening and it wasn’t yet busy enough to gauge a proper atmosphere but we were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed a very nice cocktail in the bar beforehand. The lobster linguine was superb and my husband enjoyed his surprise ‘birthday plate’ - nice touch! Perhaps a quiet mix of old jazz and soul songs in the background would enhance the whole experience, especially for early diners like us. Otherwise we thought it a very smart, clean and comfortable restaurant with a slick but gentle service.

Average afternoon tea with average service. Good enough but not overwhelmed by the service or the quality of the afternoon tea. Having said that, the scones were excellent.

Overall, it was a terrible meal. The menue was predominantly fusion styles but best described as confusion. It was one of the worst meals we've had. A total of 3 covers on a Friday night says it all. Quite how this is allowed to be associated with the 5 star Gainsborough Hotel is very odd. The best advice we can provide is to Avoid it. The birthday meal we certainly be remembered for years to come but not in a good way.

Nice place but the food was terrible. Definitely not freshly cooked for sure. Starter was not good and the main meal was terrible. Really nice hotel and restaurant but shame about the food. Breakfast was ok compared to the dinner but at £40 per person for breakfast is a rip off totally. Dinner prices were reasonable but real poor quality food. I would not eat here ever again

The service was amazing, they could not do enough to accommodate our needs. We were tended to be a young Indian lady, I forgot to ask her name but her manner and attitude was impeccable and she made an already good experience even better. She’s an asset to the restaurant and has leadership qualities. All the other staff were great too but she stood out. We have an autistic son and often in quiet places it can be difficult with him but again we are not made to feel out of place and they were welcoming.

What a treat. It’s not often I choose to write about my meal, but the GB deserves to be recognized! Creative, thoughtful menu, excellent caring staff, lovely calm and elegant setting, that matches the rest of what is likely one of the finest hotels in the UK, and beyond. Don’t be fooled by the name that leads you to think traditional English food. The Brasserie Chef goes above and beyond in executing a world class, Asian influenced meal. From the “Dancing Prawns” to the Short Rib, to the highly unusual Sashimi pasta, and finally, the Pandan Bread Pudding, there wasn’t a miss. This place is calling you to have your next special occasion. Listen to the call.

We had Easter lunch there. The food was adequate but not outstanding, our meal was more like a good pub lunch than a gourmet meal. The service was very attentive and the surroundings were very pleasant.

The service was friendly but some errors were made with the order. This did result in undercooked chicken and whilst the food was not too bad value wise, it wasn’t great and the drinks were expensive, even for a hotel bar.
