I love The Gage - always. Only go for lunch, once every couple of months. They always give us a nice booth. Service is good and food is good as well. Very dependable and fun spot.

Went her to celebrate my graduation. Our waiter Mike took great care of us and even gave us a free prosetto toast. My water glad was always full. There are spacious booths for groups and it wasn't too loud, which is rare downtown. It's also close to millennium Park. Great dinner options and dessert by a celebrity pastry chef. We loved it!

The food was great. When I decided to order a cup of coffee after lunch the server took the check and added it on. Certainly acceptable just not what a seasoned server might do after serving 2 full meals w/wine. Then I asked to have my 1/2 sandwich left to go. They couldn’t find it. Offered to buy a new entire sandwich. Would have made more sense to pay for the cup of coffee and I’d have been receptive.

When you are sitting across from the kitchen, it gets noisy and cramped. The food was great, although I always order the salmon sandwich (yum). We had a good time.

This place is fantastic! Very nice atmosphere, we came for brunch and our meals were very rich and tasty. I got the homemade corned beef hash and my wife ordered the crab cakes florentine. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. We thought the $12.00 for the bloody mary was a little pricey, although it was a tasty one at that. Overall a very nice dining experience.

Wow, what a disaster. All of the food was bland. No wonder they had salt and pepper shakers on the table. Such a disappointment from what looked like a highly edited, inventive menu. Nope, just overpriced garbage. The fish and chips were awful, having bland fish and cold fries. The soup of the day tasted undercooked and under-seasoned. I would run through the rest, but The Gage has already wasted enough of my time. Would not recommend.

Less than impressive, overall. Seated about 10 minutes past reservation time, with apologies. As others mention, it is uncomfortably loud, and seating is tight. We had to push our way through the bar patrons to get to the stairs for the restrooms. Shouting is necessary to be heard by dining partners and staff. Food was interesting sounding, but didn't meet expectations. The Asian pear salad was drenched in vinaigrette. The fish and chips was overly greasy. Venison burger was good, as were scallops. We tried marshmallow icecream and it was entirely tasteless. The location is very good for pre/post theater. Valet parking is a plus.

We ordered the chilaquiles and corned beef hash for a saturday brunch. Portions were very generous. More potatoes would have been preferred for the hash - the corned beef was definitely the "star." The chilaquiles included some outstanding salsa verde and tortilla chips made in house. The eggs were perfect. Would recommend the mimosa and the outstanding craft beer selection.

Terrible delay in seating - you can’t try to turn a 5:00 by a 6:00 reservation. After that, too much delay between courses and not very friendly service. Food was just ok.

Service and food were fine, as expected....while we know The Gage is a popular place, we hoped that at 8:00pm on a weeknight, that it might be a little less noisy than usual....it wasn’t! Between the patrons and the music, we could barely hear each other....
The other issue was value, we each had a soup, shared a venison burger, and one glass of wine....total cost $70 with tax and tip.... clearly not an issue for a packed house, but the combination of noise and cost will reduce a more regular attendance.
Though to be clear we like the restaurant, just wish it was a little less busy and costly.

I've been to The Gage several times and it never disappoints - whether you are there for cocktails, lunch, or dinner. The food, service, and ambience are all top notch. On our most recent visit, we were there for brunch and had the Chilaquiles and Butternut Squash Bisquits and Gravy. Both were spectacular! I highly recommend it.

We popped into The Gage on a December Saturday before catching a matinée at the theater. We had a reservation for 11:30 a.m.--many Chicago restaurants don't take reservations on the weekends during the holiday season, so it was nice that we had secured a spot. The joint was jumping for lunch. Three of us were seated in a lovely booth in the hearth room. The Gage has numerous little areas or rooms, which offer dining experiences. The place is rich with paneling and mirrors and leather and an open kitchen near the back. A highlight of our meal were the warm cocktails; we had hot toddies. YUM. In addition to its good location for Loop shopping, sightseeing, and theater-going, I sought a dining experience at The Gage because it offers gluten-free fare (I have celiac disease). The Gage's signature dishes are its fish and chips, which received a thumbs up from our friend and a venison burger. We ordered from a brunch menu; I had a tasty hash comprised of tender potatoes and shredded, tender corned beef that was topped with two fried eggs. Very satisfying. I recommend the place and want to visit it at night for a dinner experience.
