It was very good food and very nice ambiance. I think that I shouldn't have to write at least 50 characters.
The Gage restaurant has an interesting menu with very good dishes, with high quality. My only negative would be that the menu used to have more interesting options.
Great whiskey flight. Had the venison chop - outstanding.
Match day busy bar! Good food and great service
Service was great! Food was good! However, not a lot of options, we were excited to go there for brunch but was disappointed by options! Seemed a bit pricey
Great (much needed) dinner after roller skating next door at the CAA. Service was superb, as always. The mussels were amazing & we shared the fried pickles. Cocktails are on point. Love this spot when we're downtown.
Best waiter - Todd. Great table way in the back. Wonderful lunch with my sisters.
Very nice and reliable upscale casual restaurant.
Booked the Gage while in from out of town to visit our son at college. Overall the place was great, fun atmosphere, great bartender and house special drinks to start. Had fried pickles as an app. Very good. Entrees were all very good. The downside was our main waiter. Showed up 3x. After we had been sitting there 15 minutes, when we had to grab him for a second round after literally yelling to get his attention as he tried to ignore us, and to deliver the check. Rest of the service staff was great. I’d recommend the restaurant and hope that our service experience was the exception.
Weird menu options, poor variety. Filet mignon was excessive charcoal on a $55 steak was not up to the expected standard. Wine was good but way too expensive.
Way too loud. Not enjoyable. Great server but not a good experience.
The atmosphere is vibrant and buzzing on Wednesday night. Convenient location and fairly big menu with good wine list. Good service. However, I was not super impressed with overall food quality. Tried mussel and beet salad for appetizer. Mussel was cold.... I can't figure it out, why it was cold. Beet salad, underwhelming. I think vinaigrette was not the best to bring out beet's flavor. I had a fish for the day as main that was good, crisp outside and juicy inside. My friends had scallop that was also good. I tried a small piece and was perfectly cooked. So appetizer was not great, main course was good. 2 appetizers, 2 main dishes and a bottle of Lambrusco was about $260 with a tip.
Great atmosphere, very good after work for either drinks or meal. Waitstaff is solid across the board, attentive but not pushy.
Felt like the server was rushing us. Normally not an issue.
Radish cherry tart was divine as was our rack of veal. My salad was ok nothing to write about. Drinks were excellent and our waiter very attentive. We had to wait for our table and were not notified by text when it was ready as promised. However, as soon as we asked about it we were seated. Glad we had made reservations because it was busy. Definitely coming back next time we are in the city
Drinks were great. Wine was well poured and great for the price considering the location. Enjoyed the bar area.
Food was so-so. $75 for a ribeye that was charred and somehow still rare when ordered as medium. Underwhelming sides. Overall, I think I’d get a burger before ordering anything over $20 again. Definitely had a one and done appeal to it.
Dessert was very nice, and the waitress brought champagne when she overheard it was my birthday. A lovely ending to a lovely evening.
Best steak tartar ever! I went twice in the same trip, it was so good!
I've been to Gage many times and always enjoy the experience. However, this time the scallops were a bit disappointing. In the presence of the sunchokes, peppers, and spicy sauce, the delicate taste of the scallops was almost lost.
This is one of the truly great gastro pubs in Chicago. The menu has perfectly executed comforts like fish and chips and the regular burger which never disappoint ... plus the cocktails here are wonderful ... try a black manhattan . I find myself in Chicago about four times a year and every trip finds me making time to have at least one meal at The Gage , I would be disappointed if I missed it !
Marathon lunch celebration
I have been here a couple times in the last month with my wife. We both really enjoyed it. The food is delicious and we both like how they incorporate seasonal items onto the menu. The host and wait staff have been great. If there was one negative thing it would be the bussers. Both times I've been their they have been noisy and careless. But will not stop me from going back. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great location. Amazing cocktails. Delicious food. Hot staff.
Pre-marathon dinner did not disappoint. Everything about The Gage was fantastic as usual.
The food comes really slow and the server was kinda haphazard.
Great service. Loved the decor. Great selections of drink. Just right amount of food.
Fun and delicious
Service is actually too rapid. Leave too little time to simply enjoy the meal. Otherwise would recommend
I've dined here before, and it always meets or exceeds my expectations. The food and service are terrific!
The food was very, very good, but the dishes we chose were purposely middle brow. Altogether a really pleasant birthday evening.
Atmosphere and service were great! Food was okay. Mussels app was good. Fish and chips were fine per husband’s report. Venison burger was okay; chips were not fried at correct temp (dark outside, not fluffy inside). Toppings for burger sounded good but were in big chunks and fell everywhere when taking a bite. Meat itself tasted like beef, which I was not expecting. Drinks were made correctly.
It is ok, just that.... I don’t think is exceptional. But overall is a good place to have dinner
Great place to meet your friends. Fun and upbeat atmosphere. Excellent service.
For low noise level, ask to be seated in the back room.
Great location especially if you’re going to the theatre. Food was unique, very tasty. Ambiance was very energetic but extremely loud. You want to get a booth or move away from the bar area.
Excellent meal and service
We had a great dinner at the Gage. The noise level is high so if you are hearing challenged, this restaurant may be difficult for you. Otherwise, the service and food were fantastic. Started with the mussels appetizer. One order was plenty for the three of us. The mussels were clean and without grit. The broth was so good you want to drink it out of the bottom of the bowl. Use the great bread to sop up the broth. I enjoyed the evening fish special, steel head trout. Fish cooked perfectly as were the side veggies. One diner had a burger which he commented was good but nothing special. The other diner had the scallop entrée which she indicated was cooked perfectly and the scallops were clean and tender. I highly recommend a visit to this restaurant when you are in Chicago. It is right across from Millennium Park and the Crown Fountain.
THE BEST PLACE IN CHICAGO, LOVE IT, I PROMISE TO COME BACK
I love The Gage. My friend and I dined there before a concert, and the wait staff kept our time frame in mind with attentive service. We both ordered the fish and chips. They accommodated our request to substitute a different side for the chips. I substituted the spicy cauliflower; my friend submitted the green beans. We shared the sides. There was a surcharge, but it was worth it.
The maitre'd (owner?) stopped by our table twice to see if all was well. We were impressed with this elevated attention. And we were out in good time for our concert.
