Our server was fantastic. Great experience
Food was okay, a bit over seasoned and over dressed. I expected better based on others’ reviews. Overall it was just average. Nothing to write home about.
Very slow service and obvious that busboy do not talk to servers. I have been there many time but this time it was not enjoyful due to slow service
Server has to learn how to multitask and take orders of more than one table or two tables. Maybe I am just lucky after working in the industry for 12 years but efficiency in service makes a big difference
Msde reservations and wss seated in thr rear of the testaurant by the noisy restaurant kitchen. Had to wait a long time for food. Had to walk through congested barcarea to get to table. Bathroom was downstairs... no elevator around.
The scene is lively. We went on Sunday afternoon at 5:30 and it was packed. It is a noisy restaurant, so be prepared to shout.
The food is delicious! We splurged on poutine, wild boar, scallops. No room for dessert but I wish there had been!
The service was cordial though a little hurried. Efficient for sure.
This is a wonderful place for a celebration, dinner after or before the theater, late-night snacks, and of course, great drinks. Enjoy!
They were out of 3 entrees and 2 appetizers for an already limited menu that’s just not a good thing...
Superb service with unique and tasty menu. Had gone to a Bears game and needed a warm up to get started. Homemade hit chocolate with Baileys did the trick and the hot chocolate was amazing! Really enjoyed the meal and atmosphere. Will be back.
Love everything about the Gage but none of us really thought the donuts were amazing. They were more like cake and the sauce was delicious. They just are not actual donuts. Stick to the other brunch options which are all excellent.
All Staff were very accommodating And attentive the entire time.
Food was amazing as well. Will be back.
The food disappointed. The poutine was delicious as was the chocolate tart. Our entrees were a let down. Two of had the spicy chicken sandwich and one had the fish and chips. The spicy chicken sandwich was a buffalo chicken sandwich and not a good one. The fish was overcooked and looked like left over pieces.
I've been here numerous times and this time was a disappointment. Is there a new chef or kitchen staff?
I went for Saturday brunch. My eggs benedict was so delicious. The waitress was very friendly and attentive.
My husband and I were here on a Friday, early evening. Service was prompt. We both had the scallops and I had the apple and endive salad. Both were excellent. Wine selection was good. All of the staff were pleasant. Only complaint was it was noisy (not the worst I have experienced), however. Very pleased with our experience.
Excellent food and service, very attentive and knowledgeable.
I like the place for the food and great service. What I don't like is the noise. It is so loud that a somewhat normal conversation can't be had. One needs to shout at each other and lean in to understand. I've been there several times and keep coming back hoping it would be better. This is it - wont be back.
I dine at The Gage a lot but I have never experienced such a noisy dining atmosphere last time I was there.
My husband an I had dinner here twice while visiting Chicago. The ambiance is nice and the food is good. We shared a scallop dinner the first night. It was plated beautifully and was delicious. On the second visit, I ordered the smaller portion of scallops, my husband ordered the pork loin. My scallop dish looked very different, not a beautiful as the first time, but still delicious. My husbands pork loin was very fatty and hard for him to eat. I love the Wairau Sauvignon Blanc they serve, one of my favorites. The hostess seated us in a lovely booth which I had requested. The waitstaff was very good. I would definitely dine here again.
We have a wonderful dinner with friends at the Gage! Our server was very attentive to my dietary needs (gluten and dairy allergy) Our appetizers were served promptly, I would say the appetizer was a big too large but we ended up sharing with friends. I ordered the filet while my husband had the ribeye and both steaks were absolutely amazing and cooked perfectly! Melt in your mouth! Our friends had the oysters and scallops and enjoyed the seafood as well. We went on a Sunday night so it wasn't over crowded or loud.
Excellent staff and service. Sunday brunch was solid, but twelve dollar mimosa was extremely disappointing; lukewarm and not fresh orange juice. Their twist on eggs benedict provided for sausage that overpowered the perfectly poached eggs. Yogurt with spiced pear was delightful. Would still dine here in the future.
Great brunch and very accommodating of our large group!
Post race breakfast ! Awesome experience
I went to theater Saturday. Not wanting to be drosy, when I go to theater, I prefer to dine after theater. My 10:30 reservation was promptly handeled. My waite person was knowledgable about the special French wine list. The diver scollips were cooked so as to leave them juicy.
A little expensive, 1 glass of wine, 1 NY strip +tip $94.
Found this place through a TripAdvisor recommendation. The food was incredible, although the octopus appetizer was a little overdone and on the edge of tough. Everything else about the food and wine were excellent.
I marked the noise level "energetic," which I guess is OpenTable speak for "incredibly loud." On a Saturday night I guess you have to expect some loud and somewhat obnoxious people at nearby tables, but the tin ceilings and lack of anything sound-deadening on the walls don't help. Maybe put the large tables in one place, not scattered among the two- and four-tops? Just a suggestion.
Always great food and service at the Gage. We were meeting new friends to introduce them to The Gage and their Old Fashions. Everyone had a great time.
Always a fabulous meal. Our server was super nice but did forget a few items, not a big deal, he kindly corrected it. Butternut squash soup was excellent and venison burger never disappoints. Spicy chicken sandwich and salad were also very good.
Cocktails are always delicious! We will be back for sure!
I have the eggs Benedict and got very sick afterward
The food had great flavor not a large selection of sides, the waiter was not friendly nor gave any recommendations on the menu...
Food was excellent. As was the service. Even with the packed bar our bartender was very attentive. Overall great experience.
Great atmosphere! Perfect location to Orchestra. The staff was amazing - getting us in and out in time for our concert. The food was fresh and delicious. It will be our go-to spot when we are in the area.
Went to the Gage for an office celebration lunch. Reservation was at 12:45 but we weren’t seated until after 1, and then offered a table right in the middle of a passageway. When I asked if there was a better table we were made to wait another 15 minutes or so, and in the interim walk-ins were being told the wait was 15 minutes. I’m not sure what the benefit of making a reservation was, or why when I made a reservation indicating that we were having a celebration we were given such a crappy table to begin with. Food is pretty solid, a bit pricey. Service was OK but a bit spotty, the food came out before our drinks which was a bit odd. I’ve been there before and the service was much better so it may just be the luck of the draw.
Excellent quality and service, but tight space and high priced for lunch
Too loud to have a good conversation.
The Gage was a wonderful experience. We enjoyed upscale, delicious food with exceptional service. Steven was our server. He was attentive, made excellent recommendations and took care of every detail! Everyone from the bar staff to the management made the evening very enjoyable.
Gage...it is always vibrant, welcoming, warm, engaging....
for years I have been a customer
We had an early dinner after the theater. Everything was good, but nothing exceptional. The Caesar salad was ok. I had the special catch of the day Mahi Mahi, again good, not great. The side vegetable of red cabbage and onion was very good. My husband had the scallops and good, not great. His assortments of vegetables was the Miquelon & tasty. Service was good and we appreciated that our server did not rush us through the meal, as requested.
Loved the Venison burger and get the Truffle fries!!!
The Gage is a great blend of a nice restaurant and good bar atmosphere. Food is very good. Great option for a business lunch.
Food was unique and good. The bar menu was extensive.
Good food, excellent service, very high energy though a bit too loud for me.
The tomato soup was amazing!
