Pre-show dinner. Waiter was wonderful and very mindful of getting us out in time. Food was superb and reasonably priced.
Love their seafood.
Sunday brunch...scotch eggs...yum!! It was a lovely place to go for brunch, busy but not overly so. The food was good and the coffee great!
A family group of 9 had a very enjoyable dinner prior to attending a show at the Chicago Theatre. Everything ran like clockwork. Service was fantastic and the food matched as well. Not one complaint. Would highly recommend for a nice dinner for any occasion.
Fantastic experience. Amazing on all counts.
Great service, excellent food.
Food and service at the Gage is always superb! The location makes it a perfect place for a wonderful meal before or after Symphony.
Pleasant, food did not disappoint
Delicious food, reasonable prices, and top notch service. 10/10 solid restaurant.
Have been to The Gage more than a dozen times over the years—food is always wonderful. On this visit, the restaurant was unpleasantly hot, and our waiter got involved with a large table and pretty much forgot about us after the food came. Still, delicious NY Strip, and Venison Rack to die for.
Always a treat to dine at The Gage!
Consistently a great experience when I go to the Gage or recommend it to a friend or co-worker. It is my go-to for dining downtown.
The Gage came recommended, and it was our anniversary. The ambiance was okay, but the food was way overpriced. My husband ordered the Walleye special. While it was delicious, it was the size of a small appetizer even though it was marketed as an entree. I ordered the fish and chips; it was okay but for the price not special. My son had the burger. I think that may have been the best choice but it was just a burger. My husband's entree was absolutely delicious but I give a low score because it was no where near enough to eat for the $32 price tag. Wine also overpriced. Overall, very disappointing. Our waiter was very good.
The food was not bad, but I can get better for the same money or similar food for less. The most annoying thing was the noise level. Boxed in by a drunken party going on right behind us and a family with a toddler on the right. Service was okay, but indifferent, not very personal or attentive. After the meal, the bill was put on the table before we got a chance to order coffee or tea. Overall, not the quality experience I had in mind when I booked a table for my wife's birthday.
Great food and service! The manager always checks on each table, we appreciate that!
Service was unusually slow - bus boys were great but took along time to get service and follow up ... been great every other time we have been in so will be back
Amazing ness!!! Love the food and incredible staff!!!
We live in the neighborhood so we go to The Gage often. I took a group of friends visiting from out of town and everyone loved it. Food was awesome, and the atmosphere is great.
I went there on my aunt's recommendation and she was so right! The food was fabulous, probably the best corned beef I've ever had! The bloody mary was good, but could have been a little spicier. Service was excellent, responsive, and not at all pushy. The ambiance was also very good and everything smelled delicious as soon as you entered.
The food was very good but the restaurant was packed, loud and tables for 2 were very close together. Our waiter never brought the appetizer we ordered and maybe checked on us one time. We would have ordered another drink but he was no where to be found. Perhaps this visit was not representative of what you would normally expect. We'd recommend it to others but would make sure they knew what to expect. Not sure if we would go back or not.
Special that we’re advertised online were not available. Would have liked to have a nice steak and bottle of wine to celebrate our anniversary. Had to settle of a beer and fish & chips which was fine, but nothing special. After not having any of the specials available, we were charged $4 extra for having roasted potatoes instead of chips (French fries). Will not need a 2nd visit.
We had a fantastic time! Lovely service from everyone and it was perfect dinner for our date night before going to see a show.
Love The Gage! Great bar, great atmosphere. Our server was outstanding...friendly, informative, in no way rushed us despite a pretty full house. Food was great, too!
It was for four of us, a terrific pre-theater experience.
Nice environment and great service. The noise level was high enough that you had to raise your voice to be heard across the table.
The noise level is way too much. One has to shout to gebgeard. Food is good but nothing extraordinary.
We are pretty much regulars. Great, predictable, quality experience. Food this time was excellent as usual but service was not so good. My wife ordered a veggie currie and the waiter brought her a fork and steak knife. Ordered sides of carrots and fingerling potatoes. They came with no serving utensil. I asked for a couple spoons and he gave me a bit of a hard time, and then never brought them anyway and never asked my wife if she wanted a spoon.
We will go back because we love the place but hope we never get this waiter again.
The Gage is one of my favorites! The food and service are always top notch!
I would recommend with the caveat to go early because of the noise level. It is a good location, but does not seem to accomodate food intolerances because all of the dishes contain many ingredients and no gluten free bread is available. Biggest problem is the noise level. Very hard to converse or relax.
Excellent food, great service, terrific atmosphere. A bit pricey.
Wonderful afternoon lunch, the beet salad was gorgeous and well appointed with fresh herbs and seasoning. The mussels - amazing symphony of flavors: cilantro. lemon grass, cherry tomatoes . The venison burger was outstanding.
The food and service here are exemplary and always a consistent option for business lunches. The space is really cool as well!
Fantastic work dinner at The Gage. Service was great, specials were creative, and the desserts were amazing. We had the apple crisp, which is t usually an item I’d rave about, but this one was incredible. Buttery, crunchy, apples and cranberries. Great for sharing and we still had leftovers. Wonderful cocktail program as well.
It’s an easy place to take clients and have an impressive evening.
I did not like the sausage under the eggs Benedict. It was very salty and there was so much of it.
Veggies were the best: try green beans and cauliflower, both having a little zing. Fish and salad were very attractive and were good but could have used a flavor boost. Serving sizes were larger than one often finds when ‘fine dining’ : you could share veggies and salad. The restaurant was a bit noisier than we prefer, but our party of three could still comfortably chat. Overall a very nice place to dine especially when touring the Art Institute or staying nearby. It will be our go-to spot when we head back to Michigan Avenue.
The best Old Fashioned in Chicago. Wait staff is always awesome, personable, and great with food allergy knowledge!
Seated in a booth but still noisy near bar. Elizabeth was our server and she was excellent. Loved the entrees. Wife has the FishnChips and I tried the wild boar w sausage. Both were spot on. Great wine selections by the glass and I tried their bartenders Gage G&T. Loved everything and will be back again.
Our first time there with out of town guests. They loved it. We would def go back again!
Menu is fairly diverse and our order was delicious. The service here unfortunately needs improvement. Our server was slow and not informative with the menu.
We all enjoyed our meals. The food was well prepared. The ambiance is pleasant. Location to CSO is perfect. Our service was “just right”
