The Gage is a GO TO favorite. The menu had a vast selection that leaves your tastebuds more than satisfied. During this specific visit I enjoyed the pan roasted 1/2 chicken which was cooked perfectly. My colleague had the Thai Coconut Curry which was also cooked to perfection. I highly suggest the scotch egg as an app! LOVE THIS PLACE! Billy the owner, works as hrs as his staff and makes personal introductions to each table to ensure that their experience is enjoyable. Another great perk!
Terrific culinary experience as always. Never disappoints. My business partners enjoyed their dishes as well.
Tables are tightly packed...difficult to move around when others are sitting next to you.
I always enjoy the Gage. I look forward to going there I love the food, ambiance and location. I’ve brought a number of people and we’ve always been pleased. I heartily recommend it.
We were a party of five out for a birthday dinner. Our meal was very enjoyable. We had venison burgers, a regular burger, and two people ordered scallops. Everyone enjoyed their meal however as far as the service goes the waiter would disappear for long periods of time. The busboy made up for the lack of the waiter by always keeping the water glasses full and taking good care of us. At the end of the meal, we had desserts. There was a sShared chocolate tart and huckleberry crumble. The desserts were delicious! The burgers and scallops were top notch and everyone enjoyed their meal. I highly recommend this place for a birthday dinner but hope next time our waiter will be more attentive.
Our server and the food were great! But the noise level prevents me from coming
more often than I do.
I had a great experience at The Gage. The restaurant was crowded but my OpenTable reservation was honored and I was seated on-time. The staff was friendly and all menu items were explained as needed. The food was very good! I especially enjoyed the seasonal beet items and the reasonable prices that were offered. I would definitely return here and recommend
Cool atmosphere. Service super slow, but they were busy. Drinks were really good. Food was nothing special.
Terrifice Brunch for three of us before the ballet. Both Acanto and Gage are really dependable restaurants.
Monica was delightful and our food was excellent.
Stopped by after the ballet with my better half for dessert.
We enjoyed a Coffee with Baileys, a Cappuccino, and a Dark Chocolate Caramel Tart.
They were the perfect end to a wonderful evening. The atmosphere was lively, the waitstaff was friendly and attentive, and the tart was amazing. I am looking forward to returning to try their dinner menu.
The service was a little slow but we weren’t really in a hurry. The food was amazing!!! We had probably the best lamb chops I’ve ever had with awesome scallops on top... The food was definitely top notch! I feel the price of the food was on par for the quality, we’ll definitely be back!
We had a fantastic dinner and experience at The Gage. Great location and ambiance. We were seated in a booth which we loved and from start to finish the service and food were outstanding. The bottle of wine we ordered had just sold out, so the somalier came over and recommended a different bottle that just came in/wasn’t on the menu yet. He didn’t try to upsell us and was so comfortable to talk to. Our waiter was knowledgeable and kind. Giving just the right amount of attention. We will highly recommend the Gage to others and definitely be returning.
Had a wonderful lunch and our waiter Zak made it outstanding.
We had a very nice time at The Gage. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and went to have brunch. The food was outstanding and the entre staff was attentive, friendly. The waitress we had was knowledgeable about the food and answered any questions we had.
Nice to have the fireplace in the Winter. Nice server. Always good food.
We love the Gage. The food is wonderful and creative. The staff is always friendly.
The Gage is very overrated. I had a "spicy" fried chicken sandwich and when i received it, there was cheese on it. The menu said nothing about cheese. The chicken was still pink in the middle, bun fell apart because of the excessive amount of sauce. The waiter who was attending us, never spoke to me besides to take my order. Highly highly disappointed.
The food and service were excellent. Our server was very knowledgeable and obviously took his job very seriously. My only issue- and it was as much bad luck as anything else - our table was right behind the hostess table and wobbled all night.
Food was excellent as was the service! Ran out of the. Butterscotch dessert at 6:00! But it’s amazing.
The Gaga has long been a favorite restaurant of mine. Company wasn’t great (not the restaurant’s fault) but the recommended venison burger was excellent.
This was our choice after visiting the Art Institute. It's close and it was freezing outside. I had been to The Gage twice before - each time at dinner. The lunch set up was not what I expected. Tables are crammed in adjacent to the booths toward the front of the restaurant. We were led to a table and thankfully a booth opened up. Our server was good... patient and upbeat. A few comments about the food: if you change the menu in the restaurant, change it online!!! I'm sure I'm not the only diner who selects ahead of the visit. The lunch selections were not great. The wedge salad was far from the best I've had. The fish and chips was BLAND. The mussels are served in a deep bowl with no access to the broth... we poured ours out so the 3 sharing could dip our bread as we ate the mussels. I found it odd that the server said, "people usually eat the mussels THEN dip their bread in the broth." No they don't! I have eaten mussels EVERYWHERE for decades. Anyhow, I'll wrap this up by saying the meal was not bad but we were disappointed by most of the food and not at all impressed with the visit to The Gage.
The food is just o.k. It is a good place for getting together before CSO or Harris Theater. Fairly expensive.
Always a go to in Chicago...energy level and ambience awesome. When in doubt we go here for a great casual meal
We had a very nice brunch for our group of six. Everyone loved all of their choices, especially the Blackberry and Cherry Tomato Tart and the Pecan Crusted French Toast.
My only comment on the ambiance is that the restaurant is quite noisy. This was known beforehand.
In all other respects a really good experience. The staff was great.
Great service and menu. Love the ambiance.
First time diner there. Fantastic place, great location and ambiance, especially for the price. However, the recommended barley soup was terrible, basically oil. The venison burger and poutine is to die for!
We loved our food and service! We were seated immediately upon arrival for our reservation, but somewhat disappointed in our booth; we asked to be reseated, but could not be accommodated. There was no overhead light and a small candle on the table. It was impossible to read our menus without the aid of our phone flashlights. I would have liked to have seen my food in detail as I was eating. We came back the next day for some bar food and drinks. We will definitely return, but will take care to ask for a well lit table in future reservations.
The food and service was excellent. Great gastropub environment. The lobster bisque soup and Salmon special were great. Definitely would recommend going there again.
The mussels appetizer is the best I've ever had, and the Brussels sprouts are also excellent.
Always a solid experience at The Gage. The blackened bass sandwich was so good. My favorite Loop restaurant by far. Nobody comes close to The Gage.
The atmosphere is nice and comfortable but the food was just ok. My dinner companion had king salmon, same as me and we both thought it was just average. And, for the cost, it's not worth it. Also, very fishy smell throughout the entire restaurant. Not very pleasing.
After Hamilton dinner
We said it was my birthday dinner but it was never mentioned by staff. I was disappointed as this was a special occasion for me and my husband didn’t say anything to waiter! It was in our reservation though! But our dinner and waiter were amazing!
I was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant week menu was offered. I had the mussel soup, sea bass and heavenly chocolate mousse cake for dessert. All delicious.
Wonderful food. Deliciously presented. Great ambience. Great service. Highly recommend it!
We went for brunch during restaurant week. Food and service were great. For a full review see my review on Tripadvisor by Chicago-BB.
We went for Restaurant Week and had a great time for a reasonable price!
