Extremely solid dining experience all around.
Ideal location near the Art Institute of Chicago.
Great food with its own unique style
The Gage never disappoints.
The Salmon BLT 's that two of us had were terrible. I ended up with stomach cramps from it. It tasted off, the bread was very difficult to cut even with a steak knife.
Server was attentive without being overbearing. He went above and beyond to split our shared meal without being asked. Food was delicious. Definitely will be back
On my reservation on Open Table, I had noted that it was a reunion with a close friend I hadn’t seen in a long time, and requested a special table. They seated us at a nice table and the nicest surprise came when a lady said they heard thisvus s special reunion of best friends and offered us lovely glasses of champagne with a cherry.... made our get together feel so totally special. Thank you!
Love this place. The elk, the hangar steak, the scallops are off the charts. Excellent selection of wine and beer. Staff is friendly and fun. My go to spot when in Chicago.
The reason I didn't rate the restaurant higher is because of the noise level; the music was too loud.
The Gage is my overall favorite restaurant. This time I decided to have lunch at the bar. Wow! The service was excellent; attentive, personal and friendly. My meal, as always, was outstanding; cooked to perfection and flavorful. I had the hanger steak and fries. The Gage knows how to cook steak exactly to your liking. Their menu is creative and wines are very good. Thank you Gage!
Visiting in Chicago for 4 days and had brunch here on Saturday (5 stars for food/service/ambience) and dinner on Monday (marked off one star for service as waiter not very attentive). Food was outstanding. I had the corned beef hash at brunch and it was the best I have every had. We liked the handcrafted cocktails so much from brunch that we ordered the same ones Monday evening - Gage Old Fashioned with orange peel in it and Thyme Flies (tasted sort of like a Mojito but with thyme instead of mint - yummy). Shared a beef burger on Monday night which was huge and excellent. Fries were about average.
First time here. It was great. Had a good wine list. Ambience is fun and inviting. Started out with crab avocado toast, was good. more crab then avocado but still good. My favorite was the Thai Coconut Curry. I added shrimp to mine. IT WAS AMAZING! Would return to this establishment.
The food at the Gage is reliably excellent.
Awesome food and great service. We went twice on this trip and we’ll go back again next time we’re in town!
If you have reservations elsewhere after this dinner, tell them; however, the waiter will still most likely screw it up and make it so you have no time to eat your main course, which you will have to take to go. The service is terrible.
One of my all time favorites. Always welcoming (the Billy Lawless touch) and from drinks to desserts great quality and helpful servers. Have never had a bad meal or bad service at the Gage.
I have dined at the Gage on several occasions over the years, primarily for Sunday brunch before a Bears game. The food is excellent and the service is usually very good, but this last Sunday it was not up to par. Service was very slow and the server kept disappearing for long periods of time to the point we kept having to ask other staff people to find her. I'm hoping this was an isolated incident.
Very loud with obnoxious music - really awful, terrible music. Food was very mediocre for the price. Nothing special. Good bar scene and good location for theater, but not worth a special trip otherwise.
Knowledgeable staff, well prepared high quality ingredients, limited menu means they can really focus on each dish.
The entire experience was great - from a warm welcome, great cocktails, wine and food - very friendly and helpful service, and all in a timely manner. Thankyou.
Great food! Excellent service. Recommend corned beef hash and bread pudding.
Meeting with a group of eight people. Menu was accommodating to all and seating was good for the group. Service was very good. Only negative was that it was quite noisy but we were still able to carry on conversation. Overall a very positive experience.
Great food and friendly service. We have eaten at the Gage three times this month...it’s that good.
Best corned beef hash I've ever had! Loved the croissant monkey bread type of thing as well. Chilaquiles was good. Service was great! They were out of a menu item and server didn't tell us until we ordered it.
The calamari appetizer was the best we’d ever had! Tender and cooked perfectly. Thai coconut curry with scallops were delicious. Wish I remembered our waiter’s name because he was wonderful. If you like chocolate, the “peanut butter cup” was over the top. By far, the best meal we had in the city!
This place never disappoints with food, drink, or service. The only caution is to be aware that when busy, it gets very noisy and loud in certain spots, especially at tables open to the bar area. So if you want to converse, without getting laryngitis, ask for a table in the back, or in the middle dining room furthest away from the bar. The noise levels there are perfectly reasonable for conversation.
We met a couple who were visiting Chicago and staying near The Gage.
We took them out for lunch in between their architectural river cruise
and Art Institute tour. We had a wonderful time at The Gage.
The black bean veggie burger was a hit.
Great venison burger as always. Overtly noisy and crowded but otherwise spot on.
Great experience! First timers and would highly recommend and definitely go back!
The Gage is always a wonderful place to eat. The inventive menu and knowledgeable staff make choosing dishes a delightful adventure.
Very disappointed in our meal. Food was okay but service was poor and we were rushed to order and get out. Expensive for the quality of the food. Will not be returning.
Good to very good on every level - except very - VERY loud. Not good if you actually want to have a dinner conversation.
Wonderful as usual.
We had a wonderful dinner after the theatre. The Gage was recommended by friends. Outstanding! Great service and excellent food.
Great service, ambience, and comfort food that manages to stand out.
Pre-Hamilton lunch. Wonderful food and service made for a great experience. Best food in the Loop.
Pleasant when we arrived at 11:00 AM, but unbearable loud by the time we left.
One of my absolute favorite places to eat and bring friends/clients in the city! Elk rack is the best
Next time I'm not going to wait so long to return! My husband is a chef and we last were here for a brunch with our family the day after our wedding 7 years ago. This time we came back for dinner. The Calamari was so unique and unexpectedly amazing, Scallops out of this world, and the chicken was so tasty. I'm lucky to live in Chicagoland and will visit again soon and so should you
It was fine.
